Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Utilitarian Liberation & Common End O you who believe [in Natural Science]! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even as against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, and whether it (the case be of) a rich man or a poor man, for Allah is nearer to both (than you are). So follow not the lusts [of your hearts], lest you swerve, and if you distort [Created & Manifested Truth] or decline to do justice [with our Fundamental Rights], verily Allah is well-informed of all that you do. [Sura (3) – Aatun-Nisaaa-a – Verse – 135] “Laa yukalli-ful laahu nafsan illa wus-ahaa. Lahaa maa kasabat w-alay-haa mak-tasabat. Rabbanaa laa tu-aa-khiznaaa in-nasiinaaa aw akhta-naa. Rabbanaa wa laa tahmil alay-naaa is-ran-kamaa hamal tahuu alal-laziina min-qab-linaa. Rabbanaa wa laa tuhammil-naa maa laa taaqata lanaa bih. Wa fu-annaa, wag-fir lanaa, war-ham-naa. Anta Mawlaanaa fan-surnaa alal-qaw-mil-Kaafi-riin” - On no soul Allah places a burden greater than it can bear. It gets every good that it earns, and it suffers every ill that it earns. [Pray:] Our Rab! Condemn us not if we forget or miss the mark! Our Rab! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us. Our Rab! Lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Blot out our sins, and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Protector. Grant us victory over the disbelieving folk [disbelievers of Equal & Opposite Apriori Framework of Natural Science and Un-contradicted Facts of this Manifested Nature]. [Sura (1) – An-tazbahuu Baqarah – Verse – 286]

Book The Last Empires

Download or read book The Last Empires written by William Allan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a forthright and novel examination of efforts to improve national and global governance over the last forty years. Much has changed since Michel Foucault considered, and rejected, economics and neoliberalism as a potential mechanism for individuals to govern themselves and their nations. Nonetheless, his approach, which focused on the evolution of social development through interaction of many disciplines and biopolitical forces, remains highly relevant. Neoliberalism became a dominant political force from the 1980s to the present. It has failed however to address issues of inequality, to ensure economic stability, or to tackle the problems of people and nations that have been marginalized by industrial progress and international conflict. Market forces alone cannot meet the needs of global society. Now, however, developments in behavioural theory, institutional theory and analysis, accounting theory and accountability practice are providing tools that are developing comprehensive and evidence-based measures of well-being that promise to broaden and strengthen the field of socio-economic policy-making. Resolute, albeit long-term, steps to establish widely accepted standards of accountability, the book argues, are essential to guide policies and address the formidable governance issues of global security, information technology, social inequality, and economic and financial crises that the world faces at the beginning of the 21st century.

Download or read book Canada and Climate Change written by William Leiss and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2022-11-18 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pandemics, massive earthquakes, war, and other catastrophes inspire immediate action because their casualties and destruction are immediately visible. Climate change is an unyielding problem because its long-range dangers are hidden, and thus it is a global risk unlike anything in human experience. The federal government recently announced aggressive climate targets for Canada. We have committed to producing net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, which will require major changes for our economy and way of life. Canadian citizens need to understand why our most distinguished climate scientists and our senior political leaders think that we must meet this target. Canada and Climate Change explains the importance of policies that will ensure we meet the net-zero emissions target. William Leiss provides a firm grasp on what climate change is and how scientists have described shifts in the earth’s climate as they have occurred over hundreds of millions of years and as they are likely to occur in the near future, especially by the end of this century. Leiss argues that citizens have a right to place their trust in what climate scientists tell us. Canada and Climate Change is an essential primer on where we stand on the issue of climate change in Canada and what will unfold in the years ahead.

Book Cardiometabolic diseases and inflammatory responses

Download or read book Cardiometabolic diseases and inflammatory responses written by Nadine Suffee and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-03-08 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cardiometabolic diseases are driven by both metabolic disorders (obesity, insulin resistance, non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases, and atherosclerosis) and chronic inflammation (e.g. in diabetes, hypertension and autoimmune diseases), leading to coronary artery disease and heart failure. The perivascular or pericardiac adipose tissue expansion affecting both the systemic and tissue compartment is favored in cardiometabolic disease development. This adipose tissue is a major component of the cardiovascular system that is dysregulated during the consumption of fat-enriched diets. Additionally, fat-enriched diets profoundly impact the response of immune cells in specialized tissues, as well as the activation and differentiation of tissue-resident progenitors. This results in both dysfunction and remodeling that is not limited to tissues, but also to cell activity. The fate of cardiovascular diseases associated with metabolic disorders promotes the imbalance in pro- and anti-inflammatory environments.
