Download or read book Trading Natural Gas written by Fletcher J. Sturm and published by Pennwell Books. This book was released on 2020-10 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This how to book covers the various mechanics of natural gas trading, including the physical (cash) market for natural gas production, transportation, distribution, and consumption. It has been 23 years since Trading Natural Gas: A Nontechnical Guide was released, and many things have changed: electronic trading, power market deregulation, fracking and the shale revolution, pipelines reversing flow patterns, and LNG exports from the United States. In this second edition, the author addresses these changes, beginning with a deeper dive into the natural gas market fundamentals of supply, demand, storage, and transportation, maintaining a focus on the relationship to market pricing. Following discussion of the mechanics of trading physical natural gas, the heart of the text remains a study of financial derivative products specific to natural gas trading, presented through definitions and trading examples. Many of these products and concepts are still current and have been refreshed and kept intact. New material on the role of natural gas in the power market as it relates to fuel- switching and economic dispatch, as well as a survey of the global LNG market and US exports, is included in this second edition to bring in two of the biggest factors influencing prices in today's market. Additional statistics, tables, graphs and suggested spreadsheet templates have been provided throughout the book to help visualize many of the discussions on data. Download or read book The Natural Gas Market written by Paul W. MacAvoy and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: divOver the past six decades federal regulatory agencies have attempted different strategies to regulate the natural gas industry in the United States. All have been unsuccessful, resulting in nationwide gas shortages or massive gas surpluses and costing the nation scores of billions of dollars. In addition, partial deregulation has led the regulatory agency to become more involved in controlling individual transactions among gas producers, distributors, and consumers. In this important book, Paul MacAvoy demonstrates that no affected group has gained from these experiments in public control and that all participants would gain from complete deregulation. Although losses have declined with partial deregulation in recent years, current regulatory practices still limit the growth of supply through the transmission system. MacAvoy’s history of the regulation of natural gas is a cautionary tale for other natural resource or network industries that are regulated or are about to be regulated. /DIV

Book excerpt: This overview of project finance for the oil and gas industry covers financial markets, sources and providers of finance, financial structures, and capital raising processes. About US$300 billion of project finance debt is raised annually across several capital intensive sectors—including oil and gas, energy, infrastructure, and mining—and the oil and gas industry represents around 30% of the global project finance market. He highlights the petroleum industry players, risks, economics, and commercial/legal arrangements. With petroleum industry projects representing amongst the largest industrial activities in the world, this book ties together concepts and tools through real examples and aims to ensure that project finance will continue to play a central role in bringing together investors and lenders to finance these ventures. - Combines the theory and practice of raising long-term funding for capital intensive projects with insights about the appeal of project finance to the international oil and gas industry - Includes case studies and examples covering projects in the Arctic, East Africa, Latin America, North America, and Australia - Emphasizes the full downstream value chain of the industry instead of limiting itself to upstream and pipeline project financing - Highlights petroleum industry players, risks, economics, and commercial and legal arrangements

Download or read book Security of Gas Supply written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Trade and Industry Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2005-12-13 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The background to this report, is an earlier report from the Trade and Industry Committee (HCP 279, session 2004-05, Fuel Prices, ISBN 0215024990), which examined the price increases in gas supply, during the summer and autumn of 2004, and the resulting rises in electricity prices (as about 40 per cent of electricity generation in England and Wales is gas-fired), and focused on the effects of the price increases on all types of energy customers. This report looks at the developments since that time, and sets out some conclusions and recommendations. It does seem that gas supplies this coming winter are likely to be tighter than was anticipated in February of 2005. Import rates of gas have increased due to the effects of the hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico and the uncertainty about the extent and duration of the damage to the USAs gas production facilities with resulting unpredictability of demands for natural gas imports to the USA. The Committee states that it is extremely unlikely that domestic customers and the majority of businesses will suffer, but that the Government needs to pay close attention to any potential changes to this situation, and should pursue, in the Committees view, a single market within the EU. The Committee expresses disappointment that little progress has been made in dealing with the plight of some non-elderly vulnerable groups, in particular, disabled people. Although, the Government cannot directly affect the price of gas, the Committee believes it can ensure that there are no regulatory or economic barriers to maximizing gas suppliers and storage facilities, and further improving the functioning of the gas market by encouraging the energy liberalization in the European Union.
