Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a concise, yet thorough, reference for all heat transfer coefficient correlations and data for all types of cylinders: vertical, horizontal, and inclined. This book covers all natural convection heat transfer laws for vertical and inclined cylinders and is an excellent resource for engineers working in the area of heat transfer engineering.

Book Fully Developed Laminar Natural Convection in a Vertical Parallel Plate Channel with Symmetric Uniform Wall Temperature

Download or read book Fully Developed Laminar Natural Convection in a Vertical Parallel Plate Channel with Symmetric Uniform Wall Temperature written by Robert H. Willie and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Described in this thesis is an investigation of the fully developed natural convection heat transfer in a vertical channel formed by two infinitely wide parallel plates maintained at a uniform wall temperature. Closed-form solutions for the velocity and temperature profiles are developed along with local and averaged Nusselt numbers. The local Nusselt number based on bulk temperature is found to be 3.77. This result is an analog corresponding to 7.60 for fully developed laminar forced convection in a parallel plate channel with uniform wall temperature boundary condition. The local Nusselt number based on the ambient temperature is deduced as a function of flowwise location. Results are compared with existing numerical and experimental data to find good agreement.

Book Convective Heat Transfer Second Edition

Download or read book Convective Heat Transfer Second Edition written by Sadik Kakaç and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1994-12-16 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Convective Heat Transfer presents an effective approach to teaching convective heat transfer. The authors systematically develop the topics and present them from basic principles. They emphasize physical insight, problem-solving, and the derivation of basic equations. To help students master the subject matter, they discuss the implementations of the basic equations and the workings of examples in detail. The material also includes carefully prepared problems at the end of each chapter. In this Second Edition, topics have been carefully chosen and the entire book has been reorganized for the best presentation of the subject matter. New property tables are included, and the authors dedicate an entire chapter to empirical correlations for a wide range of applications of single-phase convection. The book is excellent for helping students quickly develop a solid understanding of convective heat transfer.

Book Interaction of Gaseous Radiation and Natural Convection Heat Transfer in an Enclosed Layer Between Two Vertical Parallel Plates

Download or read book Interaction of Gaseous Radiation and Natural Convection Heat Transfer in an Enclosed Layer Between Two Vertical Parallel Plates written by John C.. Bratis and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The radiation-free convection interaction in a rectangular enclosure is studied for the conduction and the boundary layer regimes. The temperature profiles across the layer are obtained with the use of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer and from these the conductive heat flux at the heated, highly reflecting wall is estimated. The gases being employed are pure nitrogen, pure ammonia, and ammonia nitrogen mixtures. The results for the conduction regime are compared to the numerical results of the radiation-conduction interaction in a horizontal gaseous layer. The agreement is very good and this verifies the validity of the estimated spectroscopic parameters of ammonia. The experimental results for the boundary layer regime are presented as Nusselt Number versus the Grashof number based on the distance from the starting corner and the difference between wall temperature gradient becomes zero. In the analysis the interaction between radiation and convection is examined for the free convection from a constant temperature, vertical flat plate in an infinite medium. The wall is assumed perfectly reflecting and the exponential wide band model is employed for describing the total band absorptantce for the limiting cases of the linear, the square root, and the logarithmic absorption. Analytical results are obtained as a ration of the conductive heat flux at the wall to the calculated in the absence of radiation for pure ammonia, pure nitroux oxide, and their mixtures with nitrogen. A comparison between experimental and analytical results is made in which the experimental results of pure nitrogen are utilized. These are modified in order to account for the difference in Prandtl number between nitrogen and ammonia or ammonia-nitrogen mixtures as well as for the radiation-convection radiation. The agreement between experiment and analysis is very good. The prediction in some of the cases investigated of higher interaction values in explained.
