Book National Dam Inspection Program Shawnee Dam NDI ID Number PA 00629 DER ID Number 45 115 Shawnee Development Nc Delaware River Basin Shawnee Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Shawnee Dam NDI ID Number PA 00629 DER ID Number 45 115 Shawnee Development Nc Delaware River Basin Shawnee Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by GANNETT FLEMING CORDDRY AND CARPENTER INC HARRISBURG PA. and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on visual inspection, available records, calculations, past operational performance, and according to criteria established for these studies, Shawnee Dam is judged to be unsafe, non-emergency, because the spillway capacity is rated as seriously inadequate. The existing spillway will pass only about 38 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping of the dam. If the low area on the top of the dam were filled to the design elevation, the spillway would pass only about 41 percent of the PMF, and it would still be rated as seriously inadequate. For either condition, it is judged that the dam could not withstand the depth and duration of overtopping that would occur for the 1/2 PMF. Failure of the dam would cause an increased hazard for loss of life downstream. As a whole, the dam is judged to be in poor condition. No stability problems were evident for the embankment at the time of the visual inspection, but a potential hazard exists due to significant seepage at and near the toe of the dam. The spillway weir meets recommended guidelines for stability under the normal operating condition, but not under the assumed maximum loading condition. Under the assumed maximum loading, the ability of the weir to resist failure by sliding is questionable. Erosion of material that has occurred at the toe of the weir adversely affects the stability of the structure.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Jamie Dam NDI ID Number PA 00778 DER ID Number 45 220 Delaware River Basin Leavitt Branch of Brodhead Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Jamie Dam NDI ID Number PA 00778 DER ID Number 45 220 Delaware River Basin Leavitt Branch of Brodhead Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Frederick Futchko and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on available records, visual inspection, calculations, and past operational performance, Lake Jamie Dam is judged to be in fair condition. The recommended Spillway Design Flood (SDF) for the size and hazard classification of the dam varies between the 1/2 Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) and the PMF. Based on the criteria and the downstream conditions, the selected SDF at the dam is the PMF. Based on existing conditions, the spillways will pass about 46 percent of the PMF before overtopping of the dam occurs. However, it is judged that the dam could just withstand the depth and duration of overtopping that would occur for the 1/2 PMF. If the low areas on the top of the embankment were filled to the design elevation, the spillways would pass about 77 percent of the PMF. For either condition, the spillway capacity is rated as inadequate, but not seriously inadequate. The steep downstream slope and the seepage at the dam indicate that the embankment stability may be marginal for the normal operating condition. The main spillway weir is judged to be stable. The ability of the emergency drawdown facility to function is uncertain. The dam has significant deviations from the design data. Maintenance at the dam needs to be improved. (Author).

This book was released on 1981 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the criteria established for these studies, Pocono Highland Dam is judged to be unsafe, nonemergency, because the spillway capacity is seriously inadequate. The recommended Spillway Design Flood (SDF) for the size and hazard classification of the dam varies between 1/2 of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) and the PMF. The selected SDF is the 1/2 PMF. The existing spillway will pass only about 6 percent of the PMF before overtopping of the dam occurs. It is judged that the dam could not withstand the depth and duration of overtopping that would occur for the 1/2 PMF. If the low areas on the top of the dam were filled to the design elevation, the spillway would pass about 11 percent of the PMF without any overtopping. For either condition, the spillway capacity is rated as seriously inadequate. Failure of Pocono Highland Dam would cause an increased hazard for loss of life downstream.

Based on the criteria and the downstream conditions, the SDF is the 1/2 PMF. The spillway will pass the PMF with 0.5 foot of freeboard. The spillway capacity is rated as adequate. No stability problems were evident for the embankment. None of the observed deficiencies at the dam were considered an immediate hazard.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Trout Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00769 DER ID Number 45 43 Delaware River Basin Appenzell Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Reports

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Trout Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00769 DER ID Number 45 43 Delaware River Basin Appenzell Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Reports written by O'BRIEN AND GERE ENGINEERS INC PHILADELPHIA PA JUSTIN AND COURTNEY DIV. and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trout Lake Dam is an earth embankment dam with a concrete overflow spillway. The dam is approximately 390 feet long and has a maximum height of about 24 feet. The dam is located along Pennsylvania Route 715, about 1 mile south of Reeders, Pennsylvania. The spillway is capable of discharging 25 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtoppong of the earth embankment. Failure of the dam would significantly increase the hazard to loss of life downstream of the dam. Therefore, the spillway is classified as 'seriously inadequate' and the dam is classified as 'unsafe(non-emergency)'. The spillway capacity should be increased. Further detailed hydrologic and hydraulic studies should be performed prior to the design of additional spillway capacity. Based on visual observations and review of the information obtained from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources, Dam Safety Section, Trout Lake Dam is considered to be in poor condition.

This book was released on 1980 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on visual inspection, available records, calculations, past operational performance, and according to criteria established for these studies, Middle Dam is judged to be unsafe, non-emergency because the spillway capacity is rated as seriously inadequate. Under existing conditions, the spillway can pass only about 22 percent of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF) without overtopping of the dam. If low areas on the top of the dam were filled to the design elevation for the top of the dam, the spillway would pass about 33 percent of the PMF. For either condition, it is judged that the dam could not withstand the depth and duration of overtopping that would occur for the 1/2 PMF. Failure of the dam would cause an increased hazard for loss of life downstream. As a whole, the dam is judged to be in fair condition.

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Monroe Lake Dam NDI I D Number PA 00633 PennDER I D Number 45 117 Delaware River Basin Bear Swamp Run Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Bernard M. Mihalcin and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 95 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monroe Lake Dam is located on Bear Swamp Run, a tributary to Marshall Creek, in Middle Smithfield Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania. The facility is less than five miles north of the community of Marshalls Creek, Pennsylvania and approximately eight miles north of the city of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Observations made during the visual inspection indicate the embankment is in fair condition. The structure is characterized as very irregular and poorly aligned both horizontally and vertically. The downstream embankment toe is partially inundated by water that may be attributable to seepage through the embankment and/or leakage through or around the conduit. The water is trapped in a trough area between the embankments of the dam and the downstream roadway. The condition may be exaggerated because the drainage culvert under the road appears to be partially obstructed. Minor erosion was observed along both the upstream and downstream dam faces. Although particularly evident along the upstream slope adjacent the outlet riser and along the steepest portions of the downstream slope, the erosion is not considered to be significant at this time. Field measurements indicate low areas along the embankment crest between one-half and two feet below the elevation of the left spillway wingwall. The crest is covered with gravel and the slopes with weedlike vegetation.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Brier Crest Woods Dam Delaware River Basin Tributary to Tunkhannock Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania NDI ID Number PA 00879 DER ID Number 45 245 Brier Crest Woods Inc Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Brier Crest Woods Dam Delaware River Basin Tributary to Tunkhannock Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania NDI ID Number PA 00879 DER ID Number 45 245 Brier Crest Woods Inc Phase I Inspection Report written by Frederick Futchko and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brier Crest Woods Dam is a homogeneous earthfill embankment with a toe drain. The dam, including the spillway, is 790 feet long and is 16 feet high at maximum section. The spillway is located near the middle of the dam. It is a concrete gravity weir with a concrete exit channel apron. The spillway crest is 25 feet long and is 5.0 feet below the design top elevation of the dam. The outlet works consists of a 12-inch diameter corrugated metal pipe in the spillway weir with a sluice gate at the upstream end. Based on visual inspection, available records, calculations, and past operational performance, Brier Crest Woods Dam is judged to be in good condition. The existing spillway will pass the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF), which is twice the Spillway Design Flood (SDF), with 0.2 foot of freeboard. The spillway capacity is rated as adequate. No stability problems were evident for the embankment. The spillway weir meets recommended guidelines for stability.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Brown s Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00630 DER ID Number 45 108 Delaware River Basin Stony Run Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Brown s Lake Dam NDI ID Number PA 00630 DER ID Number 45 108 Delaware River Basin Stony Run Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by Frederick Futchko and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on avaliable records, visual inspection, calculations, and past operational performance, Brown's Lake Dam is judged to be in poor condition. Based on the size and hazard classification of the dam, the recommended Spillway Design Flood is the Probalble Maximum Flood (PMF). The spillway can pass about 82 percent of the PMF. Since the dam cannot pass the PMF but can pass the 1/2 PMF, the spillway capacity is rated as inadequate. Deficiencies exist that are considered to be pertinent to the stability of the dam. The deficiencies include the following: seepage, steep slopes, a depression on the top of the dam, growth of trees on the dam, and holes and a depression on the downstream slope of the dam. The type of design and methods of construction increase the concern for the deficiencies. The condition of the outlet works is unsatisfatory. There are no upstream closure facilities. Maintenance of the dam is inadequate. (Author).

Book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Swiftwater Dam NDS ID 00776 DER ID 45 134 Delaware River Basin Swiftwater Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Lake Swiftwater Dam NDS ID 00776 DER ID 45 134 Delaware River Basin Swiftwater Creek Monroe County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by WOODWARD-CLYDE CONSULTANTS PLYMOUTH MEETING PA. and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lake Swiftwater Dam is a 31 + or - foot high zoned embankment containing an impervious core founded in hardpan. The embankment has upstream and downstream slopes of 2.5H:1V and a crest width of 10 feet. When the old spillway was relocated to the right abutment, the embankment section was reconstructed and is a homogeneous embankment with an eight foot wide cutoff trench founded on impervious materials. The upstream and downstream slopes were both constructed at 2.5H:1V with a 10 foot crest width. The upstream slope of the whole embankment is protected with riprap, minimum thickness being 18 inches on the new embankment and 12 inches on the old embankment. The embankment impounds a 21-acre reservoir. The embankment also contains a gatehouse tower located near the crest of the dam approximately midway along the length of the embankment. The gatehouse tower contains a steel sluice gate manufactured by the Caldwell-Wilcox Company. Documentation in the files indicates that the intake pipe is 42 inches in diameter, located at the base of the embankment, and encased in concrete with anti-seep collars.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Shawnee Dam NDI 832 Susquehanna River Basin Shawnee Branch of Juniata River Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Shawnee Dam NDI 832 Susquehanna River Basin Shawnee Branch of Juniata River Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by D'APPOLONIA CONSULTING ENGINEERS PITTSBURGH PA. and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 63 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the evlauation of the conditions as they existed on the dates of inspection August 30 and September 8, 1978 and as revealed by visual observations, the condition of Shawnee Dam is assessed to be good. No conditions were observed that would require attention at this time. A swampy area was found in the emergency spillway discharge channel which appeared to be surface runoff. This area should be periodically observed to document whether or not a seepage condition is developing. It is recommended that a formal warning system be developed to alert the downstream residents in the event of emergencies. The spillway capacity is classified to be 'inadequate' (90% PMF) according to the recommended criteria. However, the spillway is not considered to be 'seriously inadequate' because the capacity is in excess of 50% PMF.

It is judged that the dam could not withstand the depth and duration of overtopping that would occur for the 1/2 PMF. Failure of the dam would cause an increased hazard for loss of life downstream. As a whole, the dam is judged to be in fair condition. No stability problems were evident for the dam or appurtenant structures. The ability of the outlet works to function is unknown. There are no known upstream closure facilities. Maintenance of the dam is not adequate. Both the dam and the dike are overgrown with trees.

Book National Dam Inspection Program Bronson Pond Dam NDI ID Number PA 00143 DER ID Number 64 42 Delaware River Basin Middle Creek Wayne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report

Download or read book National Dam Inspection Program Bronson Pond Dam NDI ID Number PA 00143 DER ID Number 64 42 Delaware River Basin Middle Creek Wayne County Pennsylvania Phase I Inspection Report written by CORPS OF ENGINEERS BALTIMORE MD BALTIMORE DISTRICT. and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The visual inspection and review of available design and construction information indicate that Bronson Pond Dam is in fair condition. The primary deficiency noted during the inspection was the lack of any spillway or outlet facilities for the dam. Based on the size and hazard classification of the dam, the recommended Spillway Design Flood (SDF) varies between the 100-year flood and one-half the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). Based on the size of the dam and reservoir, and the downstream conditions, the 100-year flood has been selected as the SDF. The hydrologic and hydraulic computations indicate that the combinations of reservoir storage and overflow discharge capacity pass the 100-year flood without overtopping the dam. For this reason, the overflow capacity for Bronson Pond Dam is considered to be inadequate.
