Book Regulatory Nascent Polypeptides

Download or read book Regulatory Nascent Polypeptides written by Koreaki Ito and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-19 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights a new paradigm of translation control by regulatory nascent polypeptides, which is integrated into cellular regulatory systems. Translation lies in the hub of the central dogma of biology, in which the genetic information in the forms of 4-letter sentences is translated into 20-letter sentences: sequences of amino acids that constitute proteins, the functional molecules of life. The process involves a huge number of chemical reactions as well as physical movements of the ribosome along a messenger RNA and takes, on average, tens of seconds in prokaryotes and a few minutes in eukaryotes. Detailed knowledge about the progression of translation, called "elongation", only recently started to accumulate. Newly synthesized and growing polypeptides, called nascent polypeptides, can interact with the intra-ribosomal conduit, called the ribosomal exit tunnel, when they have some specific amino acid sequences, called "an arrest sequence". Such interaction leads to a halt in the elongation reaction. Resulting stalling of the ribosome on messenger RNA can affect the secondary structure and/or localization of the message in the cell, consequently leading to biological outputs such as elevation or reduction of a gene product. This book provides a first collection of knowledge focused on regulatory nascent polypeptides, which have been studied recently using diverse organisms including bacteria, plants, and animals. Readers will be impressed by a new paradigm showing that proteins can function even during the course of their biosynthesis and that the ribosome, the "factory" of protein production, interacts with and inspects its products to adjust the speed of completion of each product. Moreover, regulatory nascent polypeptides can sense or monitor physiological states of the cell and modulate its ability to arrest translation. Living organisms use such intricate control mechanisms of translational speed to regulate gene expression. This book will be a useful addition for established scientists while inspiring students and young scientists to gain deeper insights into the processes of expression of genetic information.

Covering topics that include government support programs, spin-off companies, leadership, strategic entrepreneurship, and crowdfunding, this book is targeted towards entrepreneurs, professionals, academicians, researchers, and students.

Book Nascent Entrepreneurship and Learning

Download or read book Nascent Entrepreneurship and Learning written by Mine Karataş-Özkan and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work by Karata -Özkan and Chell provide fresh insights on entrepreneurial learning and the entrepreneurship process. Employing a well informed social constructivist perspective, it combines theory with a richly grounded empirical analysis at three distinct but inter-related levels; the micro, the mesa, all set in the macro context of the enterprise culture. A strength of the work is the multiple levels of analysis which sheds new light on entrepreneurial learning as part of the entrepreneurial process. The result is a processual view that captures, conceptualises and explains the transitive process of becoming an entrepreneur. Alistair R. Anderson, The Robert Gordon University, UK In this book Karata -Özkan and Chell show great clarity in dealing with a range of complex issues. They articulate these in a manner which makes them interesting and comprehensible and in a fashion which impressively interweaves theory, practice and method. Sarah L. Jack, Lancaster University, UK This informative book examines the process of nascent entrepreneurship from a learning perspective. It offers a multi-layered framework of nascent entrepreneurship through an inter-disciplinary approach and sound application of Bourdieu s conceptual tools and also by generating practical insights for nascent entrepreneurs, enterprise educators and mentors. Supported by an empirical investigation of two case studies, the authors argue that it is not sufficient to study nascent entrepreneurship and concurrent process of entrepreneurial learning at just the individual (entrepreneur) or collective (team or organisational) level and examine the socio-behavioural aspects of learning; but that entrepreneurial learning should be understood by inter-relating personal (micro), relational (meso) and macro-contextual aspects of nascent entrepreneurship. The comprehensive coverage of entrepreneurship theory and research will be of significant value for scholars, researchers and students in the field.

Book How Incumbent Firms Navigate Nascent Digital Platform Ecosystems in the Internet of Things

Download or read book How Incumbent Firms Navigate Nascent Digital Platform Ecosystems in the Internet of Things written by Daniel Hodapp and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2021-03-17 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis is focusing on three little-explored contextual conditions that are important for a better understanding of digital platform ecosystems: digital platforms in a nascent stage of maturity, digital platforms built by incumbents, and digital platforms embedded in the IoT phenomenon. Thus, the thesis contributes to the question of how established companies navigating nascent digital platform ecosystems in the IoT. The work builds and contributes to the literature on digital platform ecosystems. Three main contributions are made through explorative qualitative research in the form of Delphi and case studies as well as through systematic literature research on the above-mentioned themes: First, the thesis synthesizes important knowledge about the nascent stage of digital platform ecosystems and identifies value co-creation challenges specific to this early maturity stage. Second, given the increasing importance of established companies in the platform discourse, this thesis identifies the intra- and inter-organizational challenges that incumbent organizations face in building digital platform ecosystems, emphasizing the importance of the organizational type in building a platform ecosystem. Third, the dissertation positions platforms in the IoT as a new digital platform instantiation within the scholarly platform discourse and outlines important phoneme-related characteristics that determine value creation.

Download or read book A Nascent Common Law written by Frédéric Gilles Sourgens and published by Hotei Publishing. This book was released on 2015-03-20 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In A Nascent Common Law: The Process of Decisionmaking in International Legal Disputes Between States and Foreign Investors Frédéric Gilles Sourgens submits that investor-state dispute resolution relies upon an inductive, common law decisionmaking process, which reveals a necessary plurality of first principles within investor-state dispute resolution. Relying upon, amongst others, Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations, the book explains how this plurality of first principles does not devolve into arbitrary indeterminacy. A Nascent Common Law provides an alternative account to current theoretical conceptions of investor-state arbitration. It explains that these theories cannot adequately resolve a key empirical challenge: tribunals frequently reach facially inconsistent results on similar questions of law. Sourgens makes an inductive approach, focused on the manner of decisionmaking by tribunals in the context of specific records that can explain this inconsistency.

Book excerpt: Sela Glaser is hurrying to one of her many temp jobs when she nearly runs over a talking cat named Sable. He reveals that Sela is a soon-to-be witch and he’s going to be her familiar. For a twenty-seven-year-old failed artist with heaps of student debt and no career prospects, this is pretty ground-breaking news. As Sable prepares Sela for her Nascent Eve, a witch’s ritual initiation, she finds herself dreaming of witches she’s never met before. Then, Sela meets what very well might be the man of her dreams, or at least the one to save her from an endless purgatory of dating apps…if only she didn’t have to hide her witchy destiny from him. But when Sela’s Nascent Eve goes awry, she and Sable learn that unseen magic from her past is starting to wreak havoc on her already chaotic present, putting that witchy destiny of hers in jeopardy. Sela has to figure out how to control her powers before things get worse, but a visit home reveals that fixing the past might be much more complicated than Sela or Sable realize. And when the witches from Sela’s dreams begin to appear in real life, questions arise about exactly what kind of witch this frazzled millennial really is. All of this would be a hell of a lot easier to deal with if Sela didn’t have a magical stalker interrupting all of her most romantic dates, and if her familiar’s ice cream addiction wasn’t driving her further into debt. But what’s a witch to do?
