Book Renewable Energy Auctions

Download or read book Renewable Energy Auctions written by Anton Eberhard and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-02-16 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renewable Energy Auctions provides an overview of renewable energy auctions globally, focusing on the Global South, since this is where auctions have been pioneered and provided most transformative results. Renewable energy auctions have become the dominant method for contracting utility-scale renewable energy projects, in large part due to the cost-efficient tariffs secured through this method. The ascent of auctions has been particularly rapid and transformative in the Global South, where many countries have secured renewable energy supplies at record-breaking prices. This book analyses the experiences of frontier auction markets in Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, and India, with the aim of improving how auctions are designed and implemented globally. The book goes beyond the topic of auction design - which is concerned with the micro-economics of design choices - to include auction implementation. Across ten chapters, the authors argue that choices around the auction implementing institution and the procurement process are overlooked in most publications on the subject, yet this is often a key factor for determining outcomes. Moving beyond the program level of analysis (auction design and implementation), the book includes both country and project level factors' impacts on auction outcomes, ultimately highlighting that successful price and investment outcomes are dependent upon integration of all three levels of auction design and implementation.

Book Disenchanted Modernities

Download or read book Disenchanted Modernities written by Tobias Haller and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2023-04 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mega-Infrastructure Projects (MIPs) represent a central element of globalized development. MIPs like the Chinese driven `Belt and Road Initiative' (BRI) include large-scale agrarian, road, rail, port and energy networks. They are complex ventures involving international capital and multiple stakeholders. Disenchanted Modernities presents 16 case studies showing that the promise of a sustainable modern development by MIPs leave many local users disenchanted: They don't profit form the MIPs but lose access to their resources often held in common. The book describes the strategies of states and companies as well as local responses to MIPs in Asia, Africa, Americas and Europe.

Book Electricity Use in Namibia

Download or read book Electricity Use in Namibia written by Dr. Godwin Norense Osarumwense Asemota and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2013-02-07 with total page 833 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By 2007, electricity demand in Namibia, Southern Africa, outstripped the supply capacity in the region. Namibia relies on other sources to provide 53 percent of its local electricity needs. This disparity necessitated either the introduction of new generation capacity or load management to supply the shortfall in electricity demand, with a subsequent rise in electricity costs. In Electricity Use in Namibia, author Dr. Godwin Norense Osarumwense Asemota explores load management methodologies vital to the effective, efficient, and successful operation of any power utility—in order to reduce electricity demand peaks, lower utility production cost, reduce consumer cost, match consumer loads with supply constraints, and improve availability. Asemota provides the background of the study, discusses the historical perspective of Namibian Utility, presents a literature review, details the research methodology, shares the results of the questionnaire through figures and tables, provides thorough analyses, and offers a conclusion and recommendations. Electricity Use in Namibia communicates the steps necessary to strengthen Namibia’s electricity backbone in order to facilitate a stable future for the country.

Book Hydropolitics Interest Groups and Governance

Download or read book Hydropolitics Interest Groups and Governance written by Richard Meissner and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-17 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the role that interest groups have played over the years in influencing the government of Namibia, the World Bank, the European Union and project implementation authorities to not construct the proposed Epupa Hydroelectric Power Station on the Kunene River in the Baynes mountains, a region on the border between Namibia and Angola. Some of the issues brought forward by the interest groups are the socio-economic impact the dam would have on the OvaHimba, as well as negative consequences for the river’s aquatic and terrestrial environment. This book argues that interest groups and individuals have the ability to influence the above-mentioned institutions, and to such an extent that water politics and governance are not exclusively the domain of state institutions. As such, it argues that communal interest groups, living in remote parts of the world, can influence state institutions at various political scales.
