Book Analysis of Multinational Strategic Management

Download or read book Analysis of Multinational Strategic Management written by Alan M. Rugman and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2005 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Characterized by new analytical insights and methods in the field of international business, this collection of articles by Alan Rugman and Alain Verbeke celebrates their long and productive work together on issues facing top managers of multinational enterprises. Fueled by their belief in the need for better theory in multinational strategic management, the authors have explored a number of different facets in this increasingly important realm. They have organized the work into five sections: the foundations of a new theory of multinational strategic management, a radically new examination of multinational strategic management, national competitiveness, the relatively under-researched but increasingly important issue of environmental strategies of multinational enterprises, and the interactions between multinational strategic management and public policy. This outstanding collection, inspired by the occasion of Alan Rugman's 60th birthday, will be of great interest to scholars and practitioners of international business and management, as well as to economists and lawyers.

Book Vanishing Borders

Download or read book Vanishing Borders written by Hilary French and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-06-11 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The world is shrinking faster than ever. Goods, money, microbes, pollution, people and ideas are crossing boundaries ever more frequently. The implications for our future and for the health of the planet are profound. Vanishing Borders outlines the ecological challenges posed and then goes on to define the necessary strategies for tackling them. Presently, national governments are singularly ill-equipped for tackling transitional environmental problems-from ozone depletion to soaring trade in commodities such as timbre- problems which are climbing ever higher on the international political agenda. Industrial and developing countries are on a collision course over climate change, and water shortages are creating tensions in several parts of the world. The author argues that only a worldwide commitment to strengthening treaties and institutions needed to integrate ecological considerations into the rules of global commerce holds out hope. Over 200 international environmental treaties exist but most need more stringent conditions and enforcement, and continuing support from NGO and business communities. Significantly, the digital revolution, integral in itself to processes to globalization, offers channels through which powerful coalitions can effect change. The book provides a compelling and accessible analysis and a clear plan of action in pursuit of environmental stability. Originally published in 2000

Book Global Change Impacts on Water and food Security

Download or read book Global Change Impacts on Water and food Security written by Claudia Ringler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-01-19 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, a greater level of integration of the world economy and an opening of national markets to trade has impacted virtually all areas of society. The process of globalization has the potential to generate long-term benefits for developing countries, including enhanced technology and knowledge transfers and new fina- ing options supporting agricultural and economic development. However, risks of political and economic instability, increased inequality, and losses in agricultural income and production for countries that subsidize their agricultural and other e- nomic sectors threaten to offset potential benefits. Globalization can also have a profound impact on the water sector – in terms of allocation and use of water – and thus on food security as well. Other global change processes, particularly climate change, are also likely to have far-reaching impacts on water and food security, and societies around the world. To discuss these issues in-depth, the International Food Policy Research Institute, the Third World Centre for Water Management, Mexico, and the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE), Costa Rica, held a three-day International Conference on “Globalization and Trade: Implications for Water and Food Security,” at CATIE’s Turrialba, Costa Rica, headquarters under the auspices of the CGIAR Challenge Program on Water and Food in 2005. The workshop set out to identify the major risks and emerging issues facing developing countries related to global economic and environmental change impacts on water and food security.

Book Hiring Professionals Under NAFTA

Download or read book Hiring Professionals Under NAFTA written by David Etherington and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1998-05-21 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although much information is available about the trade provisions of NAFTA, little has been written on its provisions governing the international transfer of labor. For multinationals to remain competitive in the world market, they not only must access international markets for their products, but also the labor force to help them provide products. This book is a review of the immigration provisions of NAFTA and a step-by-step guide to help corporate management utilize them in their hiring practices. It also provides a reference source for legal material not easily found elsewhere, a description of the laws and the procedures they govern, a detailed description of how to complete INS forms, and checklists and suggestions to help do so. A unique guide for human resource executives and for their colleagues in the academic community interested in international business practices. Part I provides a brief overview of the standard immigration provisions that relate to all NAFTA visas. Part II discusses the legal requirements for business persons, treaty traders and investors, and intracompany transferees who enter the United States to conduct business. Part III describes in detail how the United States businesses can hire Canadian and Mexican professionals. Step-by-step descriptions note important differences in the procedures for professionals from Canada and Mexico. The authors describe what professionals qualify, how to complete INS form, obtain TN status for professional employees, apply for extensions, and change or end employment. One chapter is devoted to issues relating to the professional's family. Part IV discusses supplementary issues of the effect of strikes, employer legal obligations, and obtaining permanent residence. The Appendixes include the full text of chapter 16 of NAFTA, relevant laws, INS forms, and checklists and addresses that businesses will find useful for preparing and filing INS petitions.
