Download or read book It s Different for Daughters written by Ruth Fry and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study of the curriculum for girls from the beginning of this century brings a fresh perspective to New Zealand educational history. Following the early triumphs of gaining the vote (and the right to qualify for university degrees), progress in women's education was not always straightforward. Social attitudes and provisions for girls at state schools in the first quarter-century established patterns for later generations to inherit and modify. In some areas, such as science and mathematics, inequalities for Maori girls lingered. Using a wide range of resources, ruth Fry traces the origin and development of the curriculum for girls to 1975, International Women's year. Those who, in 1893, achieved success in their campaign for equal voting rights were also concerned about educational opportunities for women. NZCER is very pleased to reissue It's different for daughters to celebrate the Centenary of Women's Suffrage in New Zealand.

Download or read book Chemical Education Towards Research based Practice written by J.K. Gilbert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-01-31 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical education is essential to everybody because it deals with ideas that play major roles in personal, social, and economic decisions. This book is based on three principles: that all aspects of chemical education should be associated with research; that the development of opportunities for chemical education should be both a continuous process and be linked to research; and that the professional development of all those associated with chemical education should make extensive and diverse use of that research. It is intended for: pre-service and practising chemistry teachers and lecturers; chemistry teacher educators; chemical education researchers; the designers and managers of formal chemical curricula; informal chemical educators; authors of textbooks and curriculum support materials; practising chemists and chemical technologists. It addresses: the relation between chemistry and chemical education; curricula for chemical education; teaching and learning about chemical compounds and chemical change; the development of teachers; the development of chemical education as a field of enquiry. This is mainly done in respect of the full range of formal education contexts (schools, universities, vocational colleges) but also in respect of informal education contexts (books, science centres and museums).
Download or read book The Free Kindergarten Union of Victoria 1908 80 written by Lyndsay Gardiner and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The social history of the Free Kindergarten Union of the State of Victoria, Australia, from inception in 1908 to the year 1980 is recorded in this book. Growth of the union is described within the context of the World Wars, the Depression, and urbanization and industrialization. The story begins with volunteerism and philanthropy, and with four kindergartens attempting to meet the needs of impoverished children. By mid-century the union had become an influence on government and throughout society. Some of its ventures (the training of teachers, medical and dental inspection of preschool children, and funding of kindergartens and their staff) have become government functions. Peaking at 89 member kindergartens in 1975 and facing increasingly high costs, overdrafts, and lack of management experience in local parent committees, the union persisted in pioneering efforts by also venturing into the field of preschool education for migrant children. Within this account other situations unfold, such as the conflict between popular and inexpensive full-day childminding and the more expensive educationally oriented preschools. More than a general survey, this work gives numerous details, providing, for example, particulars indicating the impact on staff of John Bowlby's research and showing the positive influence of the "Kindergarten of the Air" radio program on parents' attitudes toward kindergarten.
