Book Mystical Musings Classic Reprint

Download or read book Mystical Musings Classic Reprint written by Frank L. Decker and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mystical Musings This little book is not published to sell (if it were it would probably be a failure), but merely as a gratuity with the hope of prolonging the memory of friendship after that friendship itself has ceased to be. Simplicity and sincerity has been its paramount point. Acknowledgment of it is not even necessary, unless it affords the recipient personal pleasure in doing so. May its truth and philosophy console and comfort you when I lie, at last, in "the dreamless sleep that lulls the dead." Book Musings of a Chinese Mystic Classic Reprint

Download or read book Musings of a Chinese Mystic Classic Reprint written by Lionel Giles and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-26 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Musings of a Chinese Mystic If Lao Tzii then had revolted against the growing artificiality of life in his day, a return to nature must have seemed doubly imperative to his disciple Chuang Tzii, who flourished more than a couple of centuries later, when the bugbear of civilisation had steadily advanced. With chagrin he saw that Lao Tzii's teaching had never obtained any firm hold on the masses, still less on the rulers of China, whereas the star of Confucius was unmistakably in the ascendant. Within his own recollection the propagation of Confucian ethics had received a powerful impetus from Mencius, the second of China's orthodox sages. Now Chuang Tzii was imbued to the core with the principles of pure Taoism as handed down by Lao Tzii. He might more fitly be dubbed the Tao-saturated man than Spinoza the God intoxicated.' Tao in its various phases pervaded his inmost being and was reflected in all his thought. He was therefore eminently qualified to revive his Master's ringing protest against the materialistic tendencies of the time. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Mount of Vision: A Book of English Mystic Verse I have used the word religious rather than mystical, not because the terms are precisely equivalent, but because the first is the safer. It is ominous to hear the name of mysticism so easily used, given and taken, without a thought of its cost. It is not long since an interesting novel appeared of which the motive and the whole subject was Mysticism. Visions were easy to come by; and revelations, and such extreme things as the unitive life - things for which the Saints thought fifty years of self-conquest and self-abandonment a paltry price - were discussed as incidents of well-read aspiration. There was no mention of the first step, there was much chatter of the last. No one in the band of confident people engaged in this story in artistic work for a celestial end seemed to have entered upon the indispensable begin nings, to have overcome anything within, to have shut his mouth upon a hasty word, to have dismissed a worldly thought, to have compelled his heart to a diflicult act of pardon, to have forgone beloved sleep, cherished food, conversation, sharp thoughts, or darling pride. The Saints, on the other hand, gave themselves to that spade work before permitting themselves so much as one credible dream. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Gleanings of a Mystic It carries a vital message to the world. It satisfies not alone the intellect, but also the heart. His "Freemasonry and Catholicism," has found its way into many Masonic libraries. The occultist has received much from the book entitled, "The Web of Destiny," which is a mine of mystical knowledge and helpful occult truths. It is also a guide to the investigator, establishing danger signals for the venturesome ones who wish to take heaven by storm. To the science of astrology he has given more in a few years than has previously been discovered in centuries. His two valuable works, "Simplified Scientific Astrology" and "The Message of the Stars," deal largely with the Spiritual and medical aspects of astrology. The latter gives methods of diagnosis and healing which form a valuable addition to the works of other authors, both ancient and modern. These books may be found in the libraries of many doctors of the old school. In "Gleanings of a Mystic" are found twenty-four lessons which were formerly sent out to students. It is the wish of the writer of this introduction that these lessons may carry a message of love and cheer to the soul-hungry reader and hope to the disconsolate one. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mystics All There was another repartee of Sammy's that I remember which would have pleased the theologians. We had a companion called Dicky (his people lived next door to Sammy's), of whom Sammy was very anxious to make a Catholic. Dicky was a hardened pagan, but Sammy was convinced that if we could but get him into church during Benediction, the sight of the Blessed Sacrament must instantly convert him to the truth. I had my doubts, I am ashamed to say, but Sammy had none, albeit that he had taken not a few Protestant companions to church in. His time. Dicky took some persuading - he had congenital suspicions of Romanism - but at length Sammy's vigorous invocations succeeded so far that one day Dicky consented to accompany us to Exposition. We knelt at the far end of the church, and Sammy prayed his best and hardest, while Dicky stared in wonder at the blaze of candles and the strange central object. At last, suddenly, and rather to our alarm, Dicky spoke up. I can hear his shrill child's treble breaking the dead silence. But the clock's got no hands! He said. Book The Making of a Mystic Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Making of a Mystic Classic Reprint written by Aelfrida Tillyard and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-24 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Making of a Mystic In the Lent terms of the years 1915, 1916, and 1917, I delivered courses of Lectures at Cambridge, on "Spiritual Exercises and their Psychological Results"; "The Development of the Religious Consciousness in East and West"; and "The Practice of Mysticism." These lectures, which were given in the Psychological lecture room, were purely academic. They brought me into contact, however, with a number of people whose interest in mysticism, and in the spiritual experience and methods of meditation of saints of all religions, was not merely that of the scholar. I found myself being constantly asked for advice by men and women who wished to become pilgrims on the mystic way, and who felt the need for intense religious experience, without having any opportunity for practising the austerities of the contemplative life. I myself, as I had better confess quite frankly, am a mystic, in so far as I find the world of spiritual experience more real than the material world, and look on our union with God as the aim of humanity. And though I agree with Dr. Rendel Harris that, "those people who talk of undertaking the guidance of souls are both dangerous and impertinent," I could not avoid giving these seekers after truth such help as was within my power, which was little enough, of course. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Zelma, the Mystic: Or, White Magic, Versus Black When occult truths shall be more commonly ap plied to public affairs, the pathways of both legislator and teacher will be less devious and thorny. I have aimed to make this plain, as well as to impress upon the inventive mind the necessity of cultivating the inner or spiritual insight, as a means to success. I have also desired to have the book mechanically and artistically correct. The full-page illustrations have been procured at a large expense, and I trust they will be looked upon with pleasure and profit. Too much credit cannot be given the artists who have joined their interests with mine to make the venture a success. In this connection I have deemed it wise to employ only the best of talent, even though the number of plates should be less. With these few explanatory words, I herewith sub mit my offering to a critical public for better or worse, and cheerfully abide the verdict that shall follow. A. M. T. 'none had ever responded to the first call - many have to the last. Whosoever will -he is the person to whom the promises are made. See how Paul takes the promise made to Jacob and Joshua, and sends it broadcast to all believers, in all time to come Be content with such things as ye have, for the Lord hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee. And if this promise may be appropriated by all, surely all. Prom ises may be by all who need them and receive them m faith. But, What is this faith? Who has it? Who knows any thin g about it? Is it warm to-day and cold to-morrow; allembracing to-day, and drawn down to-morrow to nothing; believing all things to-day, and fearing all things to-mor row No, surely, this was not the faith 'wtl'l Abraham had when he went to offer up Isaac; not the faith that Moses had when he chose rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season. Not the faith that David had when he said, I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, In Him will I trust not the faith that Isaiah had when he said, The Lord God will help me, therefore shall I not be confounded; therefore have I set my face like a flint and I know that I shall not be ashamed; not the faith that Paul had every day from the hour when he Said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?
