Download or read book On Mystery Ineffability Silence and Musical Symbolism written by Laurence Wuidar and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-09 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collecting together numerous examples of Augustine's musical imagery in action, Laurence Wuidar reconstructs the linguistic laboratory and the hermeneutics in which he worked. Sensitive and poetical, this volume is a reminder that the metaphor of music can give access not only to human interiority, but allow the human mind to achieve proximity to the divine mind. Composed by one of Europe's leading musicologists now engaging an English-speaking audience for the first time, this book is a candid exploration of Wuidar's expertise. Drawing on her long knowledge of music and the occult, from antiquity to modernity, Wuidar particularly focuses upon Augustine's working methods while refusing to be distracted by questions of faith or morality. The result is an open and at times frightening vista on the powers that be, and our complex need to commune with them.
Download or read book Goddess Mystery Cults and the Miracle of Minyan Prehistoric Greece written by Dionysious Psilopoulos and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-01-03 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As this book demonstrates, the cradle of the Mystery Cults of the Goddess and of Western civilization is the Aegean region, an area extending from the Balkans to Crete and from the Ionian Sea to Asia Minor. The Eleusinian Mysteries do not originate from Old Europe or Egypt, but from the worship of the Pelasgian goddess Daeira, Mother Earth, who preceded Demeter and whose cult was indigenous to Eleusis. As shown here, in the Mysteries of the Goddess, the initiates descend into the depths of their psyche, perceive the midnight sun, transcend duality, and achieve cosmic consciousness symbolized by the unity and harmony of the Great Goddess. The Pelasgians, Minyans, and Minoans, the Aegean region’s prehistoric tribes and ancestors of the Mycenaeans and modern Greeks, share the same cultural heritage, continuity, and autochthony with the region’s Proto-Greek, pre-Deukalion-Flood inhabitants. The book also argues that religious and scientific traces of pre-Flood knowledge can be discerned in the Mysteries and the technical achievements of prehistoric Minyan and Minoan Greeks. Even from the third millennium, the Minyans and Minoans, with their advanced nautical, geographic, and astronomical knowledge, sailed not only the Mediterranean, but using the Atlantic currents had reached the copper mines of northern Europe and America.

Download or read book God on Mute written by Pete Greig and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2011-04-07 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pete Greig, the acclaimed author of Red Moon Rising, has written his most intensely personal and honest account yet in God on Mute, a book born out of his wife Samie's fight for her life and diagnosis of a debilitating brain tumor. Greig asks the timeless questions of what it means to suffer and to pray and to suffer through the silence because your prayers seem unanswered. This silence, Greig relates, is the hardest thing. The world collapses. Then all goes quiet. Words can't explain, don't fit, won't work. People avoid you and don't know what to say. So you turn to Him and you pray. You need Him more than ever before. But somehow . . . even God Himself seems on mute. In this heart-searching, honest, and deeply profound book, Pete Greig looks at the hard side of prayer, how to respond when there seem to be no answers, and how to cope with those who seek to interpret our experience for us. Here is a story of faith, hope, and love beyond all understanding.

Download or read book Testimony of Miracles written by Brother Don Haynes and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-01-29 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Testimony of Miracles is a powerful life experience of death and near-death events, followed by visitations of angels to bring guidance to a child who was left abandoned on the streets at age seven. It is about a young man who joined the military, to die in battle, to escape the misery of not having a family and living on the streets, to having a supernatural force save his life hundreds of times in the Vietnam War, to being visited in person and given instructions that put him in church and revealed these thirty miracles of the past and unfold in the present. After being sanctified by the Holy Spirit and going through a period of forgiveness, teachings began at his bedside as the Holy Spirit Himself taught him the Holy Bible and directed his new life in the likeness of Jesus Christ (I John 2:27).
Download or read book Love Mystery and Misery written by Coral Ann Howells and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2014-01-13 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The current Gothic revival in literature and film encourages us to look again to the earliest Gothic novels written beween 1790 and 1820, when Gothic was the most popular kind of fiction in England. Dr. Howells proposes a radical reassessment of these novels to emphasize their importance as experiments in imaginative writing. Her object, the study of feeling, is central to Gothic, for its spell consists in the feelings it arouses and exercises. As pseudo-historical fantasy, Gothic fiction embodies contemporary neuroses, especially sexual fears and repressions, which run right through it and are basic to its conventions. This study traces the effort to articulate these disconcerting emotions in symbol, incident, landscape and architecture. The chronological design suggests developments in Gothic, from the initial explorations of Mrs Radcliffe and M.G. Lewis, through the Minerva Press novelists and Jane Austen's "Northanger Abbey", to new directions taken by C.R. Maturin in "Melmoth the Wanderer" and later by Charlotte Bronte whose "Jane Eyre", arguably the finest of Gothic novels, places the earlier experiments in perspective.
