Download or read book Myofascial Yoga written by Kirstie Bender Segarra and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2013-08-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of Myofascial Yoga: A Movement and Yoga Therapists Guide to Asana is to show how teaching asana should include fascia, connective tissue, as an integrative and necessary step to bring yoga asana fully into movement therapies in the West. This approach integrates Eastern and Western techniques and is truly a unique opportunity to explore ourselves from a somatic level of awareness while moving through and changing patterns that keep us from living more freely in joy and health. Tom Myers, Author writes "In the book you hold, Kirstie Segarra has laid out clearly, concisely, and usefully how the asanas relate to the Anatomy Trains, and how to take up and teach (whether teaching yourself or others) the anatomy of asana in a way that makes sense to the body and to the person. Enjoy the ride." "Intuition and scientific knowledge are not opposed, they are simply two different ways of knowing. This book allows you to blend both ways of knowing in mutual service to each other to develop your inner and your outer knowledge of yoga in your own living body." The illustrations are in honor of Tom Myers first edition of the Anatomy Trains and done in a more artistic format. Any anatomy connoisseur would relate to this choice of medium. The book does include the digital forms of the myofascial meridians for more concise detail (updated for better printing of images July 2015). I recommend you look at the preview before purchasing. This book was initially designed to be used a textbook for the UNM-Taos Yoga Teacher Training Program as a guide to some of the pitfalls of teaching yoga asana. This book is not intended to teach someone how to teach asana through cueing. It is not intended to replace some of the great anatomy yoga books available with high resolution computer graphics. It is best to use this as a support to teaching or practicing yoga and as an introduction to learning the myofascial meridians.

Book excerpt: By studying the application of fascial anatomy to yoga the yoga teacher will be able to expand each individual yoga student's optimum adaptability and mobility. This new contextual presentation of applied anatomy will provide the teacher with the tools to promote freedom and confidence in every student of yoga. By using insights from scientific research presented through case studies, the tendency to overwork the tissue and decrease vulnerability to soft tissue injury in the long-term, can be lowered. The visual design and presentation through metaphor embody the difference between sitting statically at a desk reading about movements and parts - and moving through the environment being animated, in action. Between these two experiences is a divide that this book seeks to cross.

Book Yoga Fascia Anatomy and Movement Second edition

Download or read book Yoga Fascia Anatomy and Movement Second edition written by Joanne Avison and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. This book was released on 2021-05-28 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "From Anatomy to Architecture, from Biomechanical to Biomotional and from Classical to Connected "- speaks to all bodies, in all modalities; in a world seeking unity and connection more than ever. Yoga, Fascia, Anatomy and Movement was written partly as an appeal for Yoga Teachers to appreciate the depth and breadth of Yoga as a science, a movement practice and a philosophy that fundamentally espouses "wholeness" as the basis of living anatomy and form. Yoga calls for unifying who and how we are; and as teachers - how we can help our clients (who are all different) move better. Classical Anatomy (in the West) divides the body down into its component parts and traditionally (unchanged for 400 years) reduces its functionality to those parts; usually described in a 2D iconic forms and founded in lever-based mechanics. In the East, such reductionism was never espoused and Yoga, Fascia, Anatomy and Movement covers two huge bases to bridge the difference and upgrade understanding of Yoga, to 21st Century anatomy: The first is to recognise that the leading edge of Fascia Science changes all those reductionist views (anatomically and biomechanically). It is carefully explained in the first part of the book and shows how the New Science of Body Architecture actually makes perfect sense of yogic philosophy of union and wholeness. The second is to take this paradigm shift and apply it in practice, to the subtle understanding of the fascial architecture and how that helps us move better. Yoga, Fascia, Anatomy and Movement attempts to ask questions, find suitable research and make all this practical and applicable to teachers and practitioners of all types. (Indeed, it teaches "posture profiling" and creating Class Mandala's, to support this). It is a contemporary yoga teacher's bible.

You will uncover the "5 Rs of myofascial magic": - Rebound - how we use the ground as a free resource - Recoil - how the human blueprint relies on it for well-being - Release - how everyone has access to (metabolically) free elastic energy - Restore - how every age and stage of fitness and ability can be optimised - Refine - how to optimise whatever is best for the individual, however they are at the time Learning about the intricate and fascinating web of connective tissue, known as the fascia, will transform your practice and the way you perceive the human body and the beings you work with. As a practitioner, regardless of modality, this serves the keys to optimising programmes for different clients. This is a fantastic resource for yoga teachers, therapists, and movement professionals as well as manual therapists looking for small micro-movements to give their clients for homework. Book Mobilizing the Myofascial System

Download or read book Mobilizing the Myofascial System written by Doreen Killens and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. This book was released on 2018-10-01 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fascia has become the new buzzword in the field of rehabilitation and movement re-education. Until recently its contribution to musculoskeletal dysfunction had been underestimated. We know now that fascia plays an important role in health, wellbeing and mobility. It transmits the power of the muscles, communicates with the nervous system and serves as a sense organ. Many different groups of professionals are now exploring the world of fascia, as evidenced by the explosion of research in this field. However, many physical therapists are still unfamiliar with fascia and continue to think of it as the 'dead packing material' that is pushed aside during dissections in order to visualize the 'important stuff' like muscles and nerves. Physical therapists with their varied skill-set in manual therapy techniques are well-placed to take on this important tissue. Mobilization of the Myofascial System aims to help them to do that. Mobilization of the Myofascial System (MMS), the technique described in this book, has its origins in manual physical therapy for the articular, muscular and neural systems. Tom Myers' book Anatomy Trains, which examines the myofascial meridians for manual and movement therapists, has been the framework and inspiration for the development of MMS. In this book the author outlines the theory and pathophysiology of fascial dysfunctions. A full description of the MMS assessment and treatment approach is given as well as guidance on ways in which it may be integrated into the other methods normally used by manual therapists. Subsequent chapters offer full descriptions and color photos of the MMS techniques. The chapters are organized into various anatomical regions simply to facilitate learning. These divisions are, of course, artificial, as fascia is a continuum, from the top of the head, down to the toes. Mobilization of the Myofascial System is primarily intended for physical therapists who have been trained in manual therapy, but it will also be valuable for osteopaths, chiropractors, massage therapists, structural integrators and other body workers who are seeking an alternative way to work with this important and fascinating tissue.

Book excerpt: Myssage is a do-it-yourself myofascial release technique that pinpoints and releases tension at the joints where the connective tissue joins muscle and bone. The Myssage technique is simple and effective. Students are guided to place the Myssage balls beneath their body to create a comfortable pressure on specific locations. Then, they are instructed to move through a series of movements under pressure, to soften the connective tissue and release tension. Myssage works in a variety of ways to release tension. First, it awakens and softens the muscle tissue with gentle rocking, circular rotation and organic movements based on the structure and function of the joint being worked. Then, the pressure is increased by pinpointing the muscles and the matrix of the fascia this movement under pressure softens the fascia, and as it softens, it re-hydrates. The connective tissue is the home for a vast network of sensory nerves sometimes referred to as the "body's brain". The practice of Myssage will tune you into your body's signals and deepen your body awareness. It is a powerful physical therapy technique that makes you feel better; clear, light and comfortable in your body. Repetitive motion and overuse of certain muscles dehydrates the connective tissue and creates adhesions in the fascia. Myssage is a preventative measure that will prolong your ability to focus on the things you love. The Myssage manual guides you through over forty exercises to release tension throughout your entire body!
