Download or read book My Life Story written by Adonica Schultz Aune Ph. D. and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2017-09-26 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My Life Story: Margaret Estelle Gulbranson Schultz was first written in longhand by Margaret. Her story is a firsthand account of a young girl of Norwegian descent who grew up in a family of nine children in North Dakota during the Depression. Of interest is the fact that the family did live in a boxcar and were the authentic boxcar children. The Gulbranson offspring learned early to fend for themselves and help others. Being the eldest, Margaret supported and cared for her eight siblings. After a harsh start in school knowing no English, Margaret (to her delight) was sent home, learned English in one year, and went on to become a teacher at the age of nineteen. For over forty years, she continued to be heavily involved in the educational system. Margaret Estelle Gulbranson Schultz is memorialized as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and teacher.

This book was released on 2010-09 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author Biography Everyone's heard of the 'Good Old Boys' in the Deep South. This is about one J. Carroll Barnhill who likes to say, "seven twenty seven and thirty three and I've been here a while as you can see." Born, bred and raised in Bradenton-Manatee County, Florida, he attended all Manatee schools, receiving a Distinguished Achievement award in Junior High. In Manatee High School, he received the Outstanding Senior Award, football, track, President of the Florida Future Farmers of America, National Honor Society, Best Physique, football scholarship, a Boy Scout and an Assistant Scoutmaster. Carroll has five children: three boys, two girls, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He worked at a dairy farm from age 12 to 20, and had a 29-year career at Florida Power and Light Company. He won many horseshow trophies and championships, also judged and helped organize two horseshow circuits. He traded his first cow for a Pinto mare and raised its foal, "Rocket," featured in a book about famous horses of all breeds, entitled "Hoof Prints in Time." He went to Chicago and brought back the thoroughbred stallion, 'Springside, ' grandson of 'Man O'War, ' thus beginning his lifelong ambition to breed, train and race thoroughbred racehorses, winning over 400 races, several stake races and set track records. He was also voted "Outstanding Performer" by the Turf Writers. He will tell you a horse bucked him off in 2004 which finally lined up his brain cells and then wrote his first poem. He is always surprised when people like his "silly little poems" and tell him he is "blessed, talented and gifted." His reply is, "I just do it for fun and to make people happy." Carroll's football coach, Wheeler Leeth always said, "Stay in your own pond." So here Carroll remains in Manatee County.

Download or read book Time in the Sun written by Jill Welch and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2010-08-17 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the peak of the country music boom, Jill Riley-Welch drove to Nashville, guitar in tow, to pursue her gift of songwriting. It was an electric time on Nashvilles famed Music Row, where Jill worked as a studio manager and staff songwriter. It was a time when anything could happen. What happened for Jill, though, was the last thing she ever expected. Jill was diagnosed with cancer and eventually refused the proposed surgery to remove an orange-sized mass, believed by oncologists to be yet another tumor. After an indescribable spiritual encounter on the night of her diagnosis, she followed an overpowering tug and walked away from that life on Music Row and into an awakening that changed everything. From stories of hanging out with country music superstars at their inner-circle parties, where five-hundred-dollar bottles of champagne flowed freely, to the narrative of a solitary walk of facing deep, hidden pain that threatened to kill her, this is the record of a supernatural voyage into Jills discovery of her true identity in Christ.

Download or read book The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul originally published as A Cup of Friendship written by Deborah Rodriguez and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 2012-03-20 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “[Deborah] Rodriguez paints a vivid picture of Afghan culture. . . . As if Maeve Binchy had written The Kite Runner.”—Kirkus Reviews After hard luck and heartbreak, Sunny finally finds a place to call home—in the middle of an Afghanistan war zone. There, the thirty-eight-year-old serves up her American hospitality to the expats who patronize her coffee shop, including a British journalist, a “danger pay” consultant, and a wealthy and well-connected woman. True to her name, Sunny also bonds with people whose language and landscape are unfamiliar to most Westerners, but whose hearts and souls are very much like our own: the maternal Halajan, who vividly recalls the days before the Taliban and now must hide a modern romance from her ultratraditional son; and Yazmina, a young Afghan villager with a secret that could put everyone’s life in jeopardy. In this gorgeous first novel, New York Times bestselling author Deborah Rodriguez paints a stirring portrait of a faraway place where—even in the fog of political and social conflict—friendship, passion, and hope still exist. Originally published as A Cup of Friendship. Praise for The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul “A superb debut novel . . . [Deborah] Rodriguez captures place and people wholeheartedly, unveiling the faces of Afghanistan’s women through a wealth of memorable characters who light up the page.”—Publishers Weekly “[A] fast-paced winner of a novel . . . the work of a serious artist with great powers of description at her disposal.”—The Kansas City Star “Readers will appreciate the in-depth, sensory descriptions of this oft-mentioned and faraway place that most have never seen.”—Booklist “Charming . . . [a book] to warm your heart.”—Good Housekeeping

Book excerpt: Finalist in the "Best Books 2010" Awards "This is one of those books that you read and then have to sit back or curl up in a ball and 'be still and know.' In these honest, tear-stained pages are clear signs that there is a 'Hound of Heaven' hunting us down—this Spirit that is stalking us with love, winking at us with miracles, tickling us with grace, subverting everything that could destroy us, and whispering in our ears that we are truly beloved." —Shane Claiborne Author, activist, recovering sinner Love God, but not so sure about church? If you've ever had doubts or felt the gnawing need to examine your interior life, you'll find a trustworthy companion in Enuma Okoro, a purse-shopping, tea-sipping, shaky follower of Jesus who wouldn't mind meeting a guy who loves God and has decent hair. But after her father's unexpected death, her grief seems to morph into the panicky feeling that God wants something more from her, like maybe becoming a nun. As she seeks to unravel those feelings, Okoro takes us back to the places that formed her, from her first years in church at a parish in Queens, New York, to her years in West Africa where she collected crucifixes along with Richie Rich comic books, to her studies in Europe and the United States. Part Augustine, part Jane Austen with a side of Anne Lamott, Okoro attempts to reconcile her theological understanding of God's call to community with her painful and disappointing experiences of community in churches where she often felt invisible, pigeonholed, or out of place. At turns snarky and luminous, laugh-out-loud funny and vulnerably poignant, Reluctant Pilgrim is the no-holds-barred account of a woman who prays to savor God's goodness and never be satisfied. It is a daring, insightful, and deeply moving field guide for the curious, the confused, and the convicted.
