Download or read book My Own Life Map written by Gregory Tyree and published by . This book was released on 2013-07-10 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was during a difficult time in my life that I realized that I needed an effective model of life-focusing to guide me in finding direction in their lives. It was on a week-long vacation in Myrtle Beach that these thoughts materialized into a workable life-focusing model. Later I named this new model "My Own Life Focus," which is an eleven-step process fleshed out in five stages. This program has been published in book form, including a companion workbook, as well as a CD Audio Book (in two volumes) and MP3 downloads at Amazon.com. By distributing a pilot edition of the book to various friends and colleagues who promised to give me honest feedback, I was able to produce a high-quality book that has helped many people focus their lives and find more significant success. I knew as I was writing My Own Life Focus that I would eventually write two more volumes to complete what I call the My Own Life System. The first of these is the book you are reading, My Own Life Map, which will be followed by the final book in the series, My Own Life Time. (Ironically, I began writing this second volume during another week-long vacation in Myrtle Beach a year later.) This trilogy is necessary for several reasons. First, My Own Life Focus is a very-involved process that helps you focus on the big picture of your life. It ultimately helps you answer the question, "What should I be doing with my life." Think of this first book as dealing with the goal of establishing an ultimate destination for your life. While you do not need to read My Own Life Focus before reading the present volume, I am confident that you will better understand and apply the principles in this book if you read My Own life Focus first. Second, coming to terms with and deciding on your final destination is not practical without some kind of map to direct your journey. It is one thing to know that you want to go from New York to San Francisco; it is quite another to know how to get there. My Own Life Map does just that. Like the first book, the title is self-descriptive. While My Own Life Focus helps you focus your life for more significant success, My Own Life Map helps you map-out your journey which began with life-focusing. Think of this current stage as life-mapping. Finally, there is even one more step beyond life-focusing and life-mapping; you must engage in life-management. That is what the third installment of this series, My Own Life Time, will help you with. Life-management has to do with the day-to-day strategies, tactics, and habits that are necessary for you to successfully navigate to your ultimate destination. So the My Own Life System consists of three processes:1. Life-Focusing (My own Life Focus)This is an eleven-step process to help you know who you want to be and what you want to do with your life.2. Life Mapping (My Own Life Map)This is an eight-step strategic planning model to help you map-out your journey. 3. Life-Management (My Own Life Time)This last volume is an implementation tool to help you in the day-to-day management of your time, talents, and treasure. If you have made a decision concerning who you are and what you want to do, roll up your sleeves and dig in to the exciting process of life-mapping!

Download or read book The ACT Matrix written by Kevin L. Polk and published by New Harbinger Publications. This book was released on 2014-03 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If you are an ACT practitioner or mental health professional, this eagerly awaited resource is an essential addition to your professional library. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based therapy that has been successful in treating a variety of psychological issues, such anxiety, depression, substance abuse, trauma, eating disorders, and more. In contrast to other treatment options, ACT has proven extremely effective in helping clients who are “stuck” in unhealthy thought patterns by encouraging them align their values with their thoughts and actions. However, the ACT model is complex, and it’s not always easy to use. Traditionally, ACT is delivered with a focus around six core processes that are often referred to as the hexaflex: cognitive defusion, acceptance, contact with the present moment, observing the self, values, and committed action. Each of these core processes serves a specific function, but they are often made more complex than needed in both theory and in practice. So what if there was a way to simplify ACT in your sessions with clients? Edited by clinical psychologists and popular ACT workshop leaders Kevin L. Polk and Benjamin Schoendorff, The ACT Matrix fuses the six core principles of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) into a simplified, easy-to-apply approach that focuses on client actions and behavior as workable or unworkable, rather than good or bad. Most importantly, you’ll learn how this innovative approach can be used to deliver ACT more effectively in a variety of settings and contexts, even when clients are resistant or unmotivated to participate. This is the first book to utilize the ACT Matrix model, and it is a must-read for any ACT practitioner looking to streamline his or her therapeutic approach.

Book Without a Map

Download or read book Without a Map written by Meredith Hall and published by Beacon Press. This book was released on 2007-04-01 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Meredith Hall's moving but unsentimental memoir begins in 1965, when she becomes pregnant at sixteen. Shunned by her insular New Hampshire community, she is then kicked out of the house by her mother. Her father and stepmother reluctantly take her in, hiding her before they finally banish her altogether. After giving her baby up for adoption, Hall wanders recklessly through the Middle East, where she survives by selling her possessions and finally her blood. She returns to New England and stitches together a life that encircles her silenced and invisible grief. When he is twenty-one, her lost son finds her. Hall learns that he grew up in gritty poverty with an abusive father—in her own father's hometown. Their reunion is tender, turbulent, and ultimately redemptive. Hall's parents never ask for her forgiveness, yet as they age, she offers them her love. What sets Without a Map apart is the way in which loss and betrayal evolve into compassion, and compassion into wisdom.

Book Fathering the Map

Download or read book Fathering the Map written by Robert Pack and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1993-09-15 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Poetry," wrote Wordsworth, "is the breath and finer spirit of all knowledge; it is the impassioned expression which is the countenance of all Science." Robert Pack's new book is a heady mixture of the finer spirit. A selection from his last five books, along with a collection of new poems, Fathering the Map takes us from the personal reflections distilled in the lyrics of Waking to My Name (1980) to the worldly reckonings of Inheritance (1992) and back again. In the dramatic monologues of Faces in a Single Tree (1984), in the narrative of a wayward life from womb to double ending in Clayfield Rejoices, Clayfield Laments (1987), in a cosmic tour conducted by the physicist Heinz Pagels with Before It Vanishes (1990), Pack has fashioned poems of intimate experience, scientific meditations, philosophical wonder, poems that breathe the knowledge of man and woman, young and old, artist and human animal. Pack's work has won the acclaim of writers, critics, and readers from Robert Penn Warren to Cynthia Ozick to Stephen Jay Gould, who comments that the "precious contacts of science and poetry are now sadly rare, but Bob Pack revitalizes the ancient union with incisive poems that sing with lyricism or bite with insight—but always seem to add wisdom to the scientist's epigram." "The poet improves his style and spirit as he extends his reach," Howard Nemerov has written, and in his new work Pack reaches back to some of his earliest memories, and so forward to a personal mythology that circles from the primal instant to the present ecological crisis. "Robert Pack's poetry is deeply rooted in his won family life," Richard Wilbur has remarked, "and yet his imagination has always included us all." And Cynthia Ozick has said of Pack's poetry: "We rejoice as we read."
