Book excerpt: USA TODAY, PUBLISHERS WEEKLY AND ECPA BESTSELLER • The internationally recognized Bible teacher and daughter of Billy Graham combines unique biblical insights and her own personal stories to show how the Holy Spirit guides us in our decisions, comforts us in pain, and stays by our side at all times, enriching our daily lives. In Jesus in Me, Anne Graham Lotz draws on her rich biblical knowledge as well as her personal journey—including her recent cancer diagnosis—to help us understand that the Holy Spirit is not a magic genie, a flame of fire, or a vague feeling. He is a Person who prays for us, guides us in our relationships and decisions, comforts us in pain, and stays by our side at all times. In this seminal teaching, she explores seven key aspects of the Holy Spirit that will revolutionize how you understand and relate to this vital third Person in the Trinity. As Anne writes, “One of my deepest, richest joys has been discovering by experience who the Holy Spirit is in every step of my life’s journey. Each name that He has been given—Helper, Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor, Counselor, Strengthener, and Standby—reveals another aspect of His beautiful character and has provoked in me a deep love for the One who is my constant Companion . . . Jesus in me.” Discover how to better love and rely on the person of the Holy Spirit—and embrace how much He loves you through His presence, power, and provision in our daily lives. Praise for Jesus in Me “With plentiful biblical references, Lotz encourages those who already rely on Jesus to step into a purpose-filled life led by the Holy’s Spirit’s guidance. Christians who desire to live a life of greater purpose to glorify God will be awed by Lotz’s impassioned exploration of the role of the Holy Spirit in her life.”—Publishers Weekly

This book was released on 2022-08-31 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nothing could have prepared me for what I was going to discover during my mother’s funeral. The level of trepidation I felt as I drew closer to my destination was held at bay only by the knowledge that my only surviving sister, Elizabeth, would be there with me, to keep each other company, and to share in the pain of bereavement. We had lost nine of our siblings, some as toddlers, and others as grown women. My sister met me and walked with me towards the crowd of mourners, crying in each other’s arms as we walked. Our mother, our rock and prayer worrier had gone. We had lost a total of eleven people altogether including our dad. Our mother was put to rest. I returned to England after ten days not knowing that would be the last time I would see my sister. She passed away less than a year after my mum. Out of eleven siblings, I was left alone. This is the story of my journey through life as a lone survivor. It is the story of how I have embraced my healing and found purpose for living despite my loss.

Book excerpt: The life of a pastor is not much different than that of most people. They have the same joys, heartaches, difficulties and opportunities, making their life more meaningful, exciting and adventurous. We shop at the same markets, pay the same monthly bills and taxes, experience the same hurts and heartaches, eat the same kind of food, attend the same community activities as everyone else. The only difference is we strive to make the lives of those we minister to more meaningful, less stressful, even enjoyable at times, while helping them in their times of crisis. Our main objective is to get people ready and to prepare themsleves to enter the life after our earthly experience. There is Joy (great Joy) in serving Jesus Christ. There is much satisfaction meeting and working with people on their level of existance. We are all "workers together" in Christ.

Book excerpt: In this extraordinary third and final work in the second DemonWars trilogy, R. A. Salvatore weaves a diverse tapestry of characters and events from all novels of the series into an epic, unforgettable conclusion as a dark young king is driven by a quest to remake humankind. In Honce-the-Bear, King Aydrian Boudabras wakes in a cold sweat, his conscience haunted by those he has killed in order to garner power, including the rightful king before him, Danube, his mother’s husband. Now, Aydrian is preparing his armies for war, forging loyalties, playing one adversary against another, and giving those around him barely a glimpse at his remarkable powers. In the neighboring Behren, the evil Yatol Bardoh is unleashing a war engine of his own, using armies of mercenaries and horrific tactics to bring down the walls of Jacintha and to drive a ferocious dragon from the city of Dharyan. Between these two men, an explosive chain of events has been set into motion. Refugees flood the roads and valleys, alliances are formed and broken, navies clash at sea, and assassins seek their moment to strike. With Aydrian’s power and popularity turning into an avalanche and the courageous Byrnn Dharielle valiantly standing in the way of the Yalot Bardoh, the great players in the DemonWars saga will unite and clash on a single, magnificent stage. In book three of the second DemonWars trilogy, #1 New York Times bestselling author R. A. Salvatore concludes the second trilogy and gathers the whole arc of the seven books of the DemonWars saga in a stunning conclusion that Kirkus Reviews claims “fans will dance with joy” to experience.

Book Genesis Your Journey Home 2Nd Edition

Download or read book Genesis Your Journey Home 2Nd Edition written by Terry L. Newbegin and published by BalboaPress. This book was released on 2011-04-21 with total page 705 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genesis: Your Journey Home is a groundbreaking book that goes far beyond the usual levels of biblical interpretations, and the ideas taught by religion that are difficult to understand. It bypasses word definition, root studies, historical explanations, and the ideas taught by religion that are difficult to understand but are important. This book examines the first twenty-five chapters, verse by verse, exploring and revealing the deeper metaphysical (beyond the literal) meaning of the text. Most people know that there are multiple levels of truth contained within the Bible, but until now none have brought forth the ultimate Truth hidden within the mundane, semi-historical writings. Rather than creating new doctrines, this book gently peels back ALL levels of dogmatic views to reveal the true core essence of God, humanity, and the nature of reality. Deep within the ancient biblical text is found the true story (record) of creation, the reason for our very existence, and the history of All That IS. This book is for those that are searching for authenticity, purpose, and a sense that truth lies somewhere beyond religious teachings but who are reluctant to discard the inherent value of scripture. This book brings comfort, personal empowerment, a new understanding of God, and fosters a renewed sense of responsibility for life. It is a book whose time has come at last, as it brings humanity to a deeper understanding of God and a realization of their ultimate purpose.

Book My Journey to Divine Healing

Download or read book My Journey to Divine Healing written by Henry E. Dorsey and published by Author House. This book was released on 2011-07-06 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written from my personal experience with the provisions and principles described in trhe Bible. My personal health problems encountered over the course of my 73 years on this Earth was in part, the reason this book was written. I share my story now in hope that someone will be blessed my the information set to print here. My primary audience is the American Church, from which my Journey began. In my early years, I was blessed to be a part of the Baptist congregation in Berkeley, California. As time progressed from my exposure to the Gospel in the Church to my actual conversion experience at 12 years old, many questions arose which were not answered by my Church. In my conversatons with my peers and family, the gap in the questions and answers only got wider. Many of these questions are answered in this book. It is suficent to say, MY JOURNEY TO DIVINE HEALING was my effort to organize my life experiences in such a way as to convey both meaning and structure around existance. It is my belief that many people have had, and still have the same life experiences and concerns as myself and have not recieved satisfactory answers. It is my intent to shed light on these concerns from a Biblical foundation, with logic, knowledge, undrestanding and wisdom. I believe the reader will be rewarded many times over when digesting the content of this Book. In addition I think the reader will be pleasantly surprised when they begin to do what they learn.

Book excerpt: It has long been said that once kids are in high school and college, they are beyond the influence of their parents. This pervasive cultural myth is not supported by research, biblical teaching, or even anecdotal accounts. Yet because of it, many Christian parents live in silent angst about the faith of their older and adult children, thinking they can no longer do anything to shape their kids' spiritual and life decisions. Drawing on sociological research and Scripture, Dan Dupee shows parents that it is not too late--and in fact these turbulent years of transitioning into adulthood are a time when their kids may need their guidance the most. He shows parents how to make the most out of the opportunities they have to offer guidance, wisdom, and spiritual support, with the goal of seeing their children not just survive college with faith intact but enter adulthood with a faith of their own--one that will carry them through all that life brings their way.

Book The Songs of Ascents

    Book Details:
  • Author : David C. Mitchell
  • Publisher : Campbell Publishers
  • Release : 2015-03-01
  • ISBN : 1916619045
  • Pages : 311 pages

Download or read book The Songs of Ascents written by David C. Mitchell and published by Campbell Publishers. This book was released on 2015-03-01 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Codes hidden for 3,000 years unveil the origin of the fifteen Songs of Ascents. Mysterious marks in medieval manuscripts disclose the lost temple song. Rabbinic traditions reveal the place of the ark of the covenant. And the secret message of the Book of Psalms is laid bare. Question: What do you get when you cross a period-performance Director of Music with a specialist on the Psalms? Answer: The ultimate book on the Psalms in Temple worship. In this book, I wear both my hats to show how these Psalms were sung in ancient Israel. Want to know more? It’s all here in the largest book ever written on the Songs of Ascents, with 27 pictures, 14 tables, and 29 musical examples. REVIEWS David Mitchell’s Songs of Ascents is a fresh direction in the study of the Psalms. The Psalms of Ascents, he argues, were composed not only for Solomon’s Temple but actually for its dedication; yet they represent also a coherent collection, with shared themes and a progression of thought. Drawing on his musical knowledge, he also shows how they may have been sung, here adapting and developing the theories of Suzanne Haïk-Vantoura about the meaning of the Masoretic cantillation signs. John Barton, FBA, Oriel & Lang Professor of the Interpretation of Holy Scripture, Oriel College, Oxford The Songs of Ascents establishes a long-overdue link between the worlds of Biblical Studies and Near Eastern Archaeomusicology. Mitchell addresses the issue with great competence and meticulousness. He has combined researches on both church and synagogue musical traditions, and depicts a credible picture of how the psalms would have been sung in ancient Jerusalem. Richard Dumbrill, Professor of Near Eastern Archaeomusicology, University of London David Mitchell takes just one collection of fifteen psalms to recreate a scholarly and engaging account which brings together, in an original but careful way, the disciplines of the Hebrew language, psalmody, and music. For anyone interested in how the psalms functioned as ancient Temple Songs, and how this might apply to our appreciation of them in synagogues and churches today, this book is an absolute gem. Susan Gillingham, Professor of the Hebrew Bible, Worcester College, Oxford Since the publication of Suzanne Haȉk-Vantoura’s La musique de la Bible révélée in 1976 the quest to identify a musical interpretation of the Masoretic cantillation marks in the poetic biblical books has acquired some impetus. David Mitchell, combining musical expertise and biblical scholarship, has made in this monograph a significant contribution to this on-going quest. He identifies a persuasive chain of tradition which could support the view that the cantillations are a genuine representation of a musical tradition known to the Masoretes, but subsequently lost. Building on Haȉk-Vantoura’s work, and using as a test case the Gregorian tonus peregrinus for Psalm 114 (whose melody is echoed in both Sephardic and Ashkenazi melodies for the same Psalm), he provides a musical understanding of the cantillations which transfers into explicit musical directions (which he reproduces) for each of the Psalms of Ascents. This study deserves to be taken very seriously indeed. Dr Alastair Hunter, Glasgow University. Society of Old Testament Studies Book Review 2016 David Mitchell’s book contains a broad range of explorations of these fifteen psalms, which betrays engagement with many pertinent questions about the Psalms, worship in the Jerusalem Temples, and ancient music. Mitchell’s reading is thorough and eclectic, his thinking is imaginative and novel, and his writing engaging and thought-provoking….This is an enjoyable book for a musician and Psalms scholar. Dr Megan Daffern, Chaplain, Jesus College, Oxford. Expository Times Book Review 2017 This study, in a unique combination of psalter exegesis, historical localization, and music-historical observations, reveals the thesis that Psalms 120-134 were redacted between 975 and 959 BC for the consecration of Solomon’s Temple on 15 Ethanim (Tishri) 959 BC, and that one of each of these 15 psalms was sung during the Succoth festival on the 15 steps of the Temple of Jerusalem. The author proposes that the poets of these psalms were David (for Ps. 122, 124, 131, and 133), Solomon (for Psalm 127), and, by virtue of its Aramaic coloring, Jeduthun and the Merarite Levites (Ps. 120, 121, 123, 125, 126, 130, and 132). In these attributions, and in the reconstruction of the original chant, Mitchell draws on the masoretic cantillation, on rabbinic and early Christian sources on psalmody, on ancient oriental representations of musicians and instruments, and also on gematria. Professor Markus Witte, Lehrstuhl für Exegese und Literaturgeschichte des Alten Testaments, Humboldt-Universität, Berlin. Zeitschrift für die alttestamentlichen Wissenschaft Book Review, June 2017
