Download or read book Fall Stand and Repeat My Martial Arts Journey written by Anthony Vano and published by eBookIt.com. This book was released on 2017-10-25 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will not teach you how to fight physically, but mentally–how martial arts training can give you a powerful, mental edge and a strong mindset. It's a book about how martial arts helped me on my personal journey–how martial arts helped me realize the power of respect, discipline, and honor. It will show the importance of controlling your focus and not letting anger, frustration, or fear destroy you. This is a simple story of an ordinary man who deeply has enjoyed growing and training in the martial arts and how the martial arts training has been a beautiful distraction from the negative drama that life throws at times. In over 20 years, I've learned many valuable skills and life lessons. One of the most impactful skills I learned in all my martial arts training is the application of a simple formula: Fall, Stand, Repeat. If you can learn to habitually climb your way back up from the inevitable falls–both on the mat, and in the dojo of life–you will achieve and exceed your goals.

Download or read book The Invention of Martial Arts written by Paul Bowman and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2021 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Invention of Martial Arts examines the media history of what we now call 'martial arts' and argues that martial arts is a cultural construction that was born in film, TV and other media. It argues that 'martial arts' exploded into popular consciousness entirely thanks to the work of media. Of course, the book does not deny the existence of real, material histories and non-media dimensions in martial arts practices. But it thoroughly recasts the status of such histories, combining recent myth-busting findings in historical martial arts research with important insights into the discontinuous character of history, the widespread 'invention of tradition', the orientalism and imagined geographies that animate many ideas about history, and the frequent manipulation of history for reasons of status, cultural capital, private or public power, politics, and/or financial gain. In doing so, The Invention of Martial Arts argues for the primacy of media representation as key player in the emergence and spread of martial arts. This argument overturns the dominant belief that 'real practices' are primary, while representations are secondary. The book makes its case via historical analysis of the British media history of such Eastern and Western martial arts as Bartitsu, jujutsu, judo, karate, tai chi and MMA across a range of media, from newspapers, comics and books to cartoon, film and TV series, as well as television adverts and music videos, focusing on key but often overlooked texts such as adverts for 'Hai Karate', the 1970s disco hit 'Kung Fu Fighting', and many other mainstream and marginal media texts"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first part of this book Searching for Kung Fu recalls my own journey over decades in the search for both the most traditional Kung Fu practices and the philosophical teachings embedded within. It begins as a teenager studying Karate in America, learning from one of the great Okinawa masters Shihon Kenneth Funakoshi. Realizing that the root of Karate is actually Kung Fu, the journey brought me to China, to the legendary Shaolin Monastery seeking the source of Kung Fu. During these years I have had the opportunity and privilege to train under many of China’s great masters whose stories and philosophies are imparted in this book. I am sharing the story of my journey, as it is really the shared journey of every martial artist. The second part of this book The Gate of Nine Dragons reflects nine key Kung Fu principles presented through the traditional “Nine Dragon Sons.” These are nine Kung Fu concepts that can be understood as a code shared by and belonging to every school of martial arts. As a code this set of nine principles represent a set of integrated mind-set values that we can adopt in our daily lives: Perseverance, Loyalty, Balance, Change, Centering, Harmony, Flow, Emptiness, Non-violence. These nine Kung Fu principles can be understood as nine stages of training, nine aspects of Chinese philosophy, or nine values shared by martial artists offered here as a code.

Download or read book Warrior Origins written by Dr Hutan Ashrafian and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2014-07-07 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Warrior Origins is an account of the history and legends of the world's prominent martial arts and how they share a common heritage. It chronicles the origins of the Shaolin warrior monks, Shaolin Kung-Fu and their celebrated founder, Bodhidharma, who is also considered the first patriarch of Zen (Chan) Buddhism. The book considers Bodhidharma's origins in the context of ancient Persia and its royal houses and continues with the rise of Karate from ancient Okinawan roots to Japan and then into a global sport. It connects the record of Ninja and Ninjutsu and the influence of some of its latter luminaries, including Seiko Fujita, whilst also revealing new evidence on renowned martial artists such as Bruce Lee. This work takes a dramatically original approach to the heart of the martial arts and their founders. Author Dr Hutan Ashrafian, who holds black belt grades in several martial art styles, including a 5th Dan in Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate and championship medals in Karate and Judo at World and European Masters level, delineates the inheritance of these arts using innovative evolutionary approaches to find previously unidentified links between them. Warrior Origins traces the pattern from Bodhidharma to the remarkable diversity of modern martial arts.

Book excerpt: This book I wrote is a signature of my life from my youth until that designated time that God revealed his awareness to me; being blessed with the gift of athletic abilities and the rewards that came with the accomplishments, and the birth of my children and my grandchildren. The journey I made in leaving home to experience college life. The opportunity to interact with a variety of international cultures and learning their personalities and traditions; I was blinded and deceived, believing and trusting the world system. Also sitting myself in sessions with high elected professors, doctors and PHDs. This true story tells how I tasted the world exaltation of popularity in athletics, the pain of participating in the system of this world and dealing with family crises. But the sweetest flavor I have ever tasted was the deliverance, salvation and the freedom coming to Jesus Christ and the Lord my God.
