Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a work of fiction centering mainly on the experience of Angela (Angel) Lord in connection with her relationship with Kennedy (Kendy) Brooks. After leaving her husband, Angel begins a life with her partner Tonya who lives with her and two children. While on a business trip to Arizona with her assistant, Kendy meets Angel in the restaurant where she was just been promoted to manager. Although Kendy is involved with a man named Robert who is waiting to propose marriage to her back in Boston, the two women hit it off and eventually become lovers. Hoping to portray his ex-wife in a negative light, Michael pays an associate to follow Angel and report back to him with any incriminating information. When Angel breaks the news of her feelings for Kendy to her former lover, Tonya vows revenge, and eventually joins forces with Michael to take Angels children away from her. When the love of her life lay in a coma, Angel tried the only thing she knew; the faith that Kennedy had been brought up with, since her father was a preacher. And by the time she recovered everything was different. As the story progresses, Angel and Kendy must summon a source of internal strength to overcome the obstacles that their new relationship seems to create.

Book Beat Punks

Download or read book Beat Punks written by Victor Bockris and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2016-01-26 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The “poet laureate of the New York underground scene” chronicles three decades of electrifying artistic expression Once dominated by Beat Generation writers like Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, by the 1970s and ’80s, New York City’s creative scene had given way to a punk rock–era defined by figures like Debbie Harry and Richard Hell. While the aesthetics of these two movements seem different on the surface, author and prolific interviewer Victor Bockris—who witnessed it all—argues that the punks borrowed from the ideology and style of the beats, and that the beats were reenergized by the emergence of punk. In intimate conversation, Bockris’s close friends—including celebrities from both periods, such as William Burroughs, Andy Warhol, Joey Ramone, and Patti Smith—reveal more about themselves and their art to him than to any other interviewer. Along with dozens of rare photos, Bockris’s interviews and essays capture the energy of this unique time.

Book What Happens Next

Book excerpt: !--StartFragment--How can you talk about something that you can't remember? Before the ski trip, Cassidy "Sid" Murphy was a cheerleader (on the bottom of the pyramid, but still...) and a straight-A student, with two of the best friends a girl could ask for. When Sid finds herself on a ski lift with hunky local college guy, Dax Windsor, she's thrilled. "Come to a party with me," he tells her, but Dax isn't what he seems. He takes everything from Sid-including a lock of her perfect red curls-and she can't remember any of it. After the ski trip, Sid is an insomniac and an obsessive late-night runner, unable to relate to her old friends. Caught in a downward spiral, Sid drops her college prep classes and takes up residence in the A/V room with only Corey "The Living Stoner" Livingston for company. But as she gets to know Corey--slacker, baker, total dreamboat--Sid finds someone who truly makes her happy. Now, if only she could shake the nightmares, everything would be perfect... Witty and poignant, Colleen Clayton's debut is a stunning story of moving on after the unthinkable happens. !--EndFragment--

How much more will it take for Apple to learn that taking advice is just as important as giving it?

Book Transgressive Itineraries

Download or read book Transgressive Itineraries written by Marc Maufort and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2003 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fast-growing body of postcolonial drama is progressively gaining its just recognition in the twentieth-century canon of English-language plays. From the vantage point of various samplings along the Trans-Pacific axis linking English Canada, Australia and New Zealand, this monograph seeks to document the significance of this emerging postcolonial theater. More specifically, it examines the myriad ways in which, over the last two decades, representative mainstream, ethnic and First Nations playwrights have dramatized Europe's «Other» in its multiple guises. In their efforts to match new content with innovative form, these artists have followed transgressive itineraries, redrawing the boundaries of conventional Western stage realism. Their new aesthetics often relies on techniques akin to Homi Bhabha's notions of hybridity and mimicry. The present study offers detailed analyses of the modes of hybridization through which Judith Thompson, Louis Nowra, Tomson Highway, Jack Davis, Hone Kouka, and other prominent writers have articulated subtle forms of psychic, grotesque, and mythic magic realism. Their legacy will undoubtedly affect the postcolonial dramaturgies of the twenty-first century.
