Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Fast is at his best as a storyteller"— Christian Science Monitor The strength of five brothers will define a nation. My Glorious Brothers is the epic story of perhaps the most breathtaking chapter in the history of Israel, a stirring tale of courage for those who like to find meaning for today's world in the great events of history. After witnessing a ransacked and desecrated Jerusalem, Simon and his four brothers — soon to be known and revered as the Maccabees — rise to lead an earthshaking rebellion. Their tale has almost no parallel in human history. Theirs was the will, fire, and unbending spirit that inspired the timeless rite of Hanukkah, transforming a society of farmers and scholars into an unconquerable army that would wage the first modern fight for freedom and the first victory for religious freedom. Master storyteller Howard Fast recounts the story of great battles, brutal atrocities, and undying love and loyalty. But it is also a sensitive and sure picture of a people and an age, in which the mood of a small but spirited segment of humanity two thousand years ago is recreated with gripping authenticity. PRAISE FOR HOWARD FAST: "Emotional, exciting, and entertaining."— Philadelphia Inquirer "Relentless pace of events...real experience leaping full-bodied from Fast's imagination!"— New York Times

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All of us want to remain happy, immortal and live a disease-free life. But we waste our most precious human life searching for happiness in the wrong place. When the scriptures say that this material world is temporary and full of miseries, why are we wasting our time searching for happiness in the wrong place? Easy Journey to Goloka deals not only with the most authorized process of how one should lead his life and also how one should leave the life from this material world. This book provides information on how to remain happy forever and be immortal. The author has chosen a unique way of explaining an allegorical story of Srivatsav, the hero of the book, through the process of self-realization in three stages, i.e., Surfing, Snorkelling and Scuba diving. He has attempted to convey the process of how a sinful and fallen person can go back to the spiritual world by taking shelter of a bonafide spiritual master. The author invites the reader of this book to embark on the exciting journey with Srivatsav and experience the real art of dying and becoming immortal. As part of his Easy Journey to Goloka, the reader can also witness the miracles of the spiritual world.

Book Invisible Masters

  • ISBN : 1512602973
  • Pages : 296 pages

Download or read book Invisible Masters written by Elisabeth Ceppi and published by Dartmouth College Press. This book was released on 2018-07-03 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Invisible Masters rewrites the familiar narrative of the relation between Puritan religious culture and New England's economic culture as a history of the primary discourse that connected them: service. The understanding early Puritans had of themselves as God's servants and earthly masters was shaped by their immersion in an Atlantic culture of service and the worldly pressures and opportunities generated by New England's particular place in it. Concepts of spiritual service and mastery determined Puritan views of the men, women, and children who were servants and slaves in that world. So, too, did these concepts shape the experience of family, labor, law, and economy for those men, women, and children - the very bedrock of their lives. This strikingly original look at Puritan culture will appeal to a wide range of Americanists and historians.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Tibetan religious literature, Jamgön Kongtrül's Treasury of Knowledge in ten books stands out as a unique, encyclopedic masterpiece embodying the entire range of Buddhist teachings as they were preserved in Tibet. In his monumental Treasury of Knowledge, Jamgön Kongtrül presents a complete account of the major lines of thought and practice that comprise Tibetan Buddhism. This first book of The Treasury which serves as a prelude to Kongtrul's survey describes four major cosmological systems found in the Tibetan tradition—those associated with the Hinayana, Mahayana, Kalachakra, and Dzogchen teachings. Each of these cosmologies shows how the world arises from mind, whether through the accumulated results of past actions or from the constant striving of awareness to know itself.

Book The Complete Works of C H Spurgeon Volume 1

Download or read book The Complete Works of C H Spurgeon Volume 1 written by Spurgeon, Charles and published by Delmarva Publications, Inc.. This book was released on 2015-02-23 with total page 834 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 1 Sermons 1-53 Charles Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) is one of the church’s most famous preachers and Christianity’s foremost prolific writers. Called the “Prince of Preachers,” he was one of England's most notable ministers for most of the second half of the nineteenth century, and he still remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations today. His sermons have spread all over the world, and his many printed works have been cherished classics for decades. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to more than 10 million people, often up to ten times each week. He was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was an inexhaustible author of various kinds of works including sermons, commentaries, an autobiography, as well as books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Spurgeon was known to produce powerful sermons of penetrating thought and divine inspiration, and his oratory and writing skills held his audiences spellbound. Many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature. Edward Walford wrote in Old and New London: Volume 6 (1878) quoting an article from the Times regarding one of Spurgeon’s meetings at Surrey: “Fancy a congregation consisting of 10,000 souls, streaming into the hall, mounting the galleries, humming, buzzing, and swarming—a mighty hive of bees—eager to secure at first the best places, and, at last, any place at all. After waiting more than half an hour—for if you wish to have a seat you must be there at least that space of time in advance—Mr. Spurgeon ascended his tribune. To the hum, and rush, and trampling of men, succeeded a low, concentrated thrill and murmur of devotion, which seemed to run at once, like an electric current, through the breast of every one present, and by this magnetic chain the preacher held us fast bound for about two hours. It is not my purpose to give a summary of his discourse. It is enough to say of his voice, that its power and volume are sufficient to reach everyone in that vast assembly; of his language, that it is neither high-flown nor homely; of his style, that it is at times familiar, at times declamatory, but always happy, and often eloquent; of his doctrine, that neither the 'Calvinist' nor the 'Baptist' appears in the forefront of the battle which is waged by Mr. Spurgeon with relentless animosity, and with Gospel weapons, against irreligion, cant, hypocrisy, pride, and those secret bosom-sins which so easily beset a man in daily life; and to sum up all in a word, it is enough to say of the man himself, that he impresses you with a perfect conviction of his sincerity.” More than a hundred years after his death, Charles Spurgeon’s legacy continues to effectively inspire the church around the world. For this reason, Delmarva Publications has chosen to publish the complete works of Charles Spurgeon.

This book was released on 2021-10-07 with total page 15515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Owing to his keen observation of detail and unfiltered representation of society, Balzac is regarded as one of the founders of realism in European literature. Balzac sought to present his characters as real people, neither fully good nor fully evil, but completely human. His labyrinthine city provided a literary model used later by English novelist Charles Dickens and Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky. The novel sequence La Comédie humaine, which presents a panorama of post-Napoleonic French life, is generally viewed as his magnum opus.. An original illustration.
