Book A Stroke Was My Teacher

Download or read book A Stroke Was My Teacher written by James Crawford and published by BalboaPress. This book was released on 2011-07-22 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book begins by revealing new ideas about how and why embolic stroke and heart attacks share a common history involving clot formation. The only distinction between the two diseases is where the clot finally stops. If in the brain, it results in a stroke; if in the heart muscle, a heart attack. Thus the first portion of the book (Chapters 1-4) documents how the mechanism of clot formation was studied through the eyes of a lifelong research scientist who was not a stroke expert, but a stroke survivor. Described in those chapters are entirely new ideas about how and why clots form, and how to prevent them. While my four years of stroke investigation (so far) was unfolding, I simultaneously carefully recorded my daily observations as I experienced an embolic shower-type of stroke. My goal was to assemble a guide for all stroke victims alerting them what to expect, and also my evaluation of a number of treatment modalities, nutrients/supplements etc., designed to save money and frustration to newcomers to the stroke world as well as the initiated. The big difference between this and other accounts of embolic stroke is that in this case it is framed in the context of an aging body. If you do not already know, this distinction is important since there is a fine line between the effects of aging and the effects of stroke. The upshot of this book is to offer my evidence to the reader that stroke and heart attack are largely avoidable diseases. My thought is, if the reader thinks what I say makes sense, they can take the recommended action starting today to minimize their risk. And it is so incredibly simple and virtually cost-free.

Book Lies My Teacher Told Me

Download or read book Lies My Teacher Told Me written by James W. Loewen and published by The New Press. This book was released on 2024-04-16 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At last! The long-awaited graphic version of the multi-million copy bestselling corrective to American history myths—adapted by the famed National Book Award–winning artist behind John Lewis’s March trilogy Since its first publication in the 1990s, Lies My Teacher Told Me has become one of the most important and successful—and beloved—history books of our time. As the late Howard Zinn said, “Every teacher, every student of history, every citizen should read this book.” Having sold well over 2 million copies, the book also won an American Book Award and numerous other commendations and prizes and was even heralded on the front page of the New York Times long after its first publication. Now, the brilliant and award-winning artist Nate Powell—the first cartoonist ever to win a National Book Award—has adapted Loewen’s classic work into a graphic edition that perfectly captures both Loewen’s text and the irreverent spirit of his work. Eye-popping illustrations bring to life the true history chronicled in Lies My Teacher Told Me, and ample text boxes and callouts ensure nothing is lost in translation. The book is perfect for those making their first foray past the shroud of history textbooks, and it will also be beloved by those who had their worldviews changed by the original.

Book Wow My Teacher is a Horse

Download or read book Wow My Teacher is a Horse written by Paulien Rutgers and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In ‘Wow, my teacher is a horse!’, scientifically based theory and practical examples clearly explain how the horse can play a role in strengthening executive functions through experiential learning. Since 2004 Paulien Rutgers has been working in horse-assisted interventions which aim to encourage children with specific needs to develop their strenghts and abilities. More than half of these children suffer from school dropout and/or risky behavior. They need support for one or more executive functions, with feedback to their family and school. Horses have a positive effect on the learning ability, the self-reflection and the awareness of these children. In this book, Paulien Rutgers brings together all her experience and the results of her search for the explanation of the effect that horses have on the behaviour and cognition of the target group. She attended national and international symposia, lectures and courses, studied articles and books, conducted passionate interviews with researchers and colleagues, resulting in a conclusive theory which translates into practice. This is an indispensable book for students of Animal Assisted Therapy courses, of applied social studies, pedagogy and psychology as well as for teachers in those studies, as for professionals in the field of animals in care.
