Book excerpt: “You're hooked, you feel every cut, grope up every cliff, swallow water with every spill of the canoe, sweat with every draw of the bowstring. Wholly absorbing [and] dramatic.”—Harper's Magazine The setting is the Georgia wilderness, where the states most remote white-water river awaits. In the thundering froth of that river, in its echoing stone canyons, four men on a canoe trip discover a freedom and exhilaration beyond compare. And then, in a moment of horror, the adventure turns into a struggle for survival as one man becomes a human hunter who is offered his own harrowing deliverance. Praise for Deliverance “Once read, never forgotten.”—Newport News Daily Press “A tour de force . . . How a man acts when shot by an arrow, what it feels like to scale a cliff or to capsize, the ironic psychology of fear: these things are conveyed with remarkable descriptive writing.”—The New Republic “Freshly and intensely alive . . . with questions that haunt modern urban man.”—Southern Review “A fine and honest book that hits the reader's mind with the sting of a baseball just caught in the hand.”—The Nation “[James Dickey's] language has descriptive power not often matched in contemporary American writing.”—Time “A harrowing trip few readers will forget.”—Asheville Citizen-Times "A novel that will curl your toes . . . Dickey's canoe rides to the limits of dramatic tension."—New York Times Book Review "A brilliant and breathtaking adventure."—The New Yorker

Book The Person Inside

  • Pages : 90 pages

Download or read book The Person Inside written by Myra H. Doyle and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-05-16 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's human nature to want and expect to be loved and accepted. God made us that way. Because God loves us and accepts us, we expect family and friends to feel the same way. That doesn't always happen, not even in Christian homes. We are spirit and we have a soul and we live in a body. There is a uniqueness that God places in each one of us. It is what makes us different from one another. Our innateness is created by God. That is what is inside the person. Abuse can cloud and even destroy the person inside. Nothing is more personal than abuse. It is an intentional, direct attack on the personhood of an individual. It is the canceling, the erasing of the naturalness of a person. The abuser is committing a do-over on the child or spouse or whomever, whether it be physical, sexual, or psychological abuse. I am a delivered and healed survivor of child abuse. I received deliverance and inner healing from Jesus Christ. He has set the person inside free to be who he created me to be. And he can do the same for you. My hope is that everyone be delivered from their past and healed of their wounds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People are all so hurt and broken. We want peace and joy that is supposed to come through Jesus Christ, but wonder why we are so miserable and full of chaos and turmoil. Many assume this is just Christianity, that this is all Jesus is. So what is the point of giving my life over to this? We need answers on how to seek Jesus and truly find Him and how to fix what is broken inside. We need to learn how to apply the principles of Scripture to our lives so that we can truly be free, rather than looking to all the other things of the world. Christianity has been so skewed over the last several generations that it is hardly recognized. The church rarely calls out and exposes satan and never teaches how to fight. We are told not to give him place in our lives yet are not taught how to keep him from having a place in our lives. This book is a raw look at the truth of Scripture that got Jesus crucified. We need to relearn the word of God and break the strongholds of lies that have been put upon us. It is time we get back to basics of Scripture and learn Christ's truth the way He intended it to be. He loves you so much and cannot wait to show you! You matter. You have purpose. Are you ready for the truth?
