Book Letters from a Black and White World

Download or read book Letters from a Black and White World written by Teresa Price and published by WestBowPress. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rare glimpse into the training and life of a mid-twentieth-century nun; a story told on two levels actual letters written as it was experienced, interspersed with narrative and retrospective comments. Overall, the book is a love story of a girl seeking God and dedicating her life to His service. The story begins on a hot July day when the seventeen-year-old candidate arrives at the novitiate in Missouri. Candid letters reveal the gradual transformation from a frivolous teen to a dedicated religious. The letters chronicle her efforts to cope with the rigorous training and lifestyle and ultimately, her failure to conform. Psychological effects and consequences of the lifestyle are discussed. Retrospective comments enhance the story, explaining customs and practices of the Old World spirituality of the times. Details of the Church reforms enacted in the 1960s that brought dramatic needed change are included. The system of belief, customs, and practices of the times sheds light on the scandalous abuse and secrecy issues in the news today. The author sums up her experiences in these words: Some would argue, but I believe there is such a thing as a temporary vocation. I see my seven and a half years in the convent as sucha precious time of protection for me at a most vulnerable time in my life. Unaware of my motivation at the time, Ive come to realize I entered the convent seeking peace and escape from the pain of losing my sister. The Lord called me aside just for a time, and during that time I learned to love and trust Him unreservedly. I felt a deep happiness, but as is the course of things, I eventually suffered the emotional consequences of denying those feelings of loss, guilt, and anger and not allowing myself to grieve.

Book Tri Constituent Compounds

Download or read book Tri Constituent Compounds written by Elisabeth Huber and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-05-08 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a usage-based perspective to the study of multi-word compounding, analyzing the structural, functional and cognitive aspects of tripartite compounds (e.g. day care center, football game, hotel bedroom). It highlights the heterogeneity of these word-formation products, but also carves out surprising differences to two-word compounds. In order to reveal the step from two-word compounding to multi-word compounding, the book explains why only some compounds are used productively for the formation of more complex compounds. Building on the idea of entrenchment, it provides a theoretical account that allows understanding speakers’ ability to produce multi-word compounds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book tells the story of the Mt Stromlo Observatory in Canberra which began with W.G. Duffield's idealism and vision in 1905. The Observatory began life as a government department, later becoming an optical munitions factory producing gun sights and telescopes during the Second World War, before changing its focus to astrophysics – the new astronomy. In the ensuing years programs were introduced to push the Observatory in new directions at the international frontiers of astronomy. The astronomers built new, better and larger telescopes to unravel the secrets of the universe. There were controversies, exciting new discoveries and new explanations of phenomena that had been discovered. The Observatory and its researchers have contributed to determining how old the universe is, participated in the largest survey of galaxies in the universe, and helped to show us that the universal expansion is accelerating – research that led to Brian Schmidt and his international team being awarded the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics. These and other major discoveries are detailed in this fascinating book about one of the great observatories in the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Brenda the relief that Ted was alive and had survived the Defence of Calais was soon replaced by terror as the Germans began bombing London. Night after terrifying night, bombs fell and fires raged as the Blitz became her life, her days spent nursing the victims and her nights avoiding the death from the skies. For Ted life as a POW in Poland was like living in a nightmare from which he couldn't wake up. As the weather worsened so did his living conditions and the lack of news from England only served to add to his sense of isolation. The casual brutality of his guards continued unabated, but their arrogance and lack of compassion only hardened his own resolve to survive. But for Brenda's friend, Pam, life at last began to find meaning. After struggling for months to find something worthwhile to help the war effort an opportunity presented itself that was both unexpected and exhilarating. 'Though Worlds May Change' is the third book in The Cat & The Nightingale Saga and covers the period from July to December 1940. The title, taken from 'They'll always be an England' reflects not only the havoc and chaos that WW2 wrought on innocent lives, but also the stubborn determination to make the best of it and to survive against all the odds.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the spirit of Humans of New York and PostSecret, ths is a gorgeous gift book celebrating the objects that outlast love: a poignant, funny, sometimes bizarre and always delightful window into modern love and loss. "Leave[s] your heart feeling full and connected." -- Frank Warren, PostSecret A postcard from a childhood sweetheart. A wedding dress sealed in a jar. A roll of undeveloped film. An axe used to chop an ex-lover's furniture in a fit of rage. A wind-up toy, a bar of bath soap, a tin of Love Potion with the simple caption "Doesn't work." These objects, and many more, make up the whimsical, imaginative, poignant population of the Museum of Broken Relationships. Anonymous submissions have poured in by the thousands: objects with brief, compelling captions confessing to the story behind their meaning. The museum's Croatian exhibit quickly became a main draw for tourists from around the globe, and has garnered enthusiastic, glowing media attention from sources as disparate as the New York Times and the Chinese national news. Now, as the physical museum arrives for a permanent spot in Los Angeles, the authors have collected the best, funniest, most heartwarming and heartrending stories from their huge selection of submissions. Much like the bestselling Postsecret series, this beautiful oversized, four-color book will offer an irresistible glimpse inside other people's secret worlds, creating moments of deep human connection. It is a must read for anyone who has ever loved and lost.

  • Pages : 365 pages

Download or read book Judah s Justice written by Robin Winters and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2018-08-20 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Islamic terrorists loyal to Hezbollah have plotted to detonate a thermonuclear IED (improvised explosive device) in New York City. With God’s grace, the CIA acted as liaison with SOCOM (Special Operations Command) in a highly classified, Super Secret, clandestine operation, code-named Wrath of God. The land of milk and honey is under siege by genocidal Islamic combatants. The threat to humanity must be terminated under the most supreme law—the divine decree of God’s law. Judah’s Justice sheds a very bright light upon a very dark path that our courageous counterterrorism operatives must tread. You’ll be deeply shaken, inspired, and motivated to respect and honor the sacred men and women of the CIA Directorate of Operations, Clandestine Service. Without their sacrifices in the face of existing dangers, America would be under martial law; our civil liberties and freedoms lost. Life in America would be anarchy. The true colors of our star-spangled banner would no longer shine. Judah’s Justice is the stage for the NWOD (New World Order Decree) endorsed by the United Nations Security Council.
