Book excerpt: Best Book of 2021 —Esquire? Featured on Good Morning America "A meticulous cartography of how outer forces shape young people’s inner lives." —Esquire, Best Books of 2021 In conversation with young adults and experts alike, journalist Rainesford Stauffer explores how the incessant pursuit of a “best life” has put extraordinary pressure on young adults today, across our personal and professional lives—and how ordinary, meaningful experiences may instead be the foundation of a fulfilled and contented life. Young adulthood: the time of our lives when, theoretically, anything can happen, and the pressure is on to make sure everything does. Social media has long been the scapegoat for a generation of unhappy young people, but perhaps the forces working beneath us—wage stagnation, student debt, perfectionism, and inflated costs of living—have a larger, more detrimental impact on the world we post to our feeds. An Ordinary Age puts young adults at the center as Rainesford Stauffer examines our obsessive need to live and post our #bestlife, and the culture that has defined that life on narrow, and often unattainable, terms. From the now required slate of (often unpaid) internships, to the loneliness epidemic, to the stress of "finding yourself" through school, work, and hobbies—the world is demanding more of young people these days than ever before. And worse, it’s leaving little room for our generation to ask the big questions about who they want to be, and what makes a life feel meaningful. Perhaps we’re losing sight of the things that fulfill us: strong relationships, real roots in a community, and the ability to question how we want our lives to look and feel, even when that’s different from what we see on the ‘Gram. Stauffer makes the case that many of our most formative young adult moments are the ordinary ones: finding our people and sticking with them, learning to care for ourselves on our own terms, and figuring out who we are when the other stuff—the GPAs, job titles, the filters—fall away.

Hired as a tutor when Helen was six years old, Annie broke down the barriers between Helen and the wider world, becoming a fiercely devoted friend and lifelong companion in the process. In Annie Sullivan and the Trials of Helen Keller, author and illustrator Joseph Lambert examines the powerful bond between teacher and pupil, forged through the intense frustrations and revelations of Helen's early education. The result is an inspiring, emotional, and wholly original take on the story of these two great Americans.

Book Midnight Musings of the Soul

Download or read book Midnight Musings of the Soul written by Vivian Wrenn and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-02 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout my life I have pondered and mused over the spiritual and physical realms and the similarities and differences of them. The material or physical realm is orchestrated through the spiritual realm much more than man would want to embrace or admit to. The ego and freewill within our souls can work for and/or against us. Fear is the enemy not only of the mortal soul, but the spirit, as well. Fear can create many an anomaly that trickles down from the micro to the macro of society. Fears are the foundation of anger, bitterness, hatred, bigotry, and any other negative human emotion that lies within the human psyche. Fears start out through words, beliefs, and feelings that over time get engrained within the edifice of our soul. Somehow we miss the importance of love and think it as weak and misunderstood due to these fears that have a way of tricking us into thinking that they are truths. My journey began from very young due to seeing and feeling the spiritual realm around me along with various types of dreams from cryptic to astral traveling. Almost dying at birth I believe somehow put a drive in me to understand the factions and foundation of love and the human psyche. My family was highly dysfunctional and I was the spiritual guardian assigned to put the function back within it. However, being so young, I was not fully aware of this responsibility. These poems got birthed from the angst in my soul and desire to bring healing to myself and the world around me. How does fear creep in? Many different types of fears that are passed down through false beliefs of our parents, society and it's various elements, such as, schools and churches. My own personal experience fears crept in through seeing both realms, my own family members had their own set of fears, not to mention how at the age of 10 I got catapulted away from my family into an orphanage. This book is quips of wisdom, poetry, and insights given to me as I sought healing for myself and many other souls that have crossed my journeys path. I would like to impart them to you as seeds of love!
