Book excerpt: These are imaginative, evocative pieces, the author reveling in the semantic and stylistic possibilities of the English language. She is unconstrained by conventional forms, although her work remains both accessible and lucid; indeed, her work is marked by a strong literary vision and confidence of expression that brings further meaning to the work. Although it is very difficult to pick highlights from a collection as accomplished as this, I think the following passage illustrates some of the key elements of the author’s style and subject matter: Enormous, dark wood shining with a hidden secret. Rich cherry-red mahogany bark beckoned her with its treasure. The scrolls of ornament curled and uncurled into various shapes and forms—a grape vine, then a swallow-bird, then a deep pool that seemed to ripple when one held their head just so. Sheath stood before it, uttering the words of the unlocking spell. As this extract illustrates, the descriptions are at once striking and eloquently communicated, yet never descend into meaningless verbosity. The writing is intelligent and thoughtful and the author switches between subject matter, styles and forms with considerable grace.

Book excerpt: For individuals struck with the disorder, schizophrenia is a life-shattering event which curtails careers, breaks up families, forefends any possibility of financial stability, leads to severe physiological, psychological and social impairments, and, in many cases (up to 15% of schizophrenics according to some studies) to death through suicide (APA, 1997; Carter and Flesher, 1995; Wyatt, et al., 1996). Schizophrenia's impact reaches beyond just schizophrenics and their immediate families. The Split Brain is for the families, the patients and for the constant search for meaning in the madness.

This book was released on 2024-05-07 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A collection of inspiration, motivation, and WITF (what is this fuckery) moments from the eyes and fingertips of a self-published writer and author. Stories from behind the laptop after years of writing, editing, and hitting the upload button repeatedly have finally led to this book, sharing writerly wisdom, relatable situations to commiserate with, and funny anecdotes that could be shared online but probably shouldn't. "Because it's too long for a Thread, and we know how much Kerrie loves Threads." Kerrie wakes up every morning, and like clockwork, fixes her favorite coffee in the only white Yeti mug she owns, fires up the laptop and monitor, and checks in to see what's happening with the world. "Oh look, chaos. And we're still battling over whether romance needs to have a happily-ever-after. Haven't we settled this? Don't edit while you write? What is this fuckery? Where are my candy orange slices?!" So many words could be said. But there's a book to write, chapters to edit, copywriting to be completed, and five works-in-progress giving the side-eye. This is the life of a writer. Laugh, chuckle, drop your jaw in shock, and whisper "WITF" multiple times with relatable stories about writing and self-publishing as Kerrie travels around the United States. She discusses writing rituals and routines, musings, writing hooks and asking beautiful questions, emotional support snacks, social media, introvertism, and how to achieve expert-level procrastination skills when productivity is questionable at best. Book Mrs Dalloway

  • Publisher : Good Press
  • Release : 2023-12-16
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 196 pages

Download or read book Mrs Dalloway written by Virginia Woolf and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2023-12-16 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mrs Dalloway, Virginia Woolf's fourth novel, offers the reader an impression of a single June day in London in 1923. Clarissa Dalloway, the wife of a Conservative member of parliament, is preparing to give an evening party, while the shell-shocked Septimus Warren Smith hears the birds in Regent's Park chattering in Greek. There seems to be nothing, except perhaps London, to link Clarissa and Septimus. She is middle-aged and prosperous, with a sheltered happy life behind her; Smith is young, poor, and driven to hatred of himself and the whole human race. Yet both share a terror of existence, and sense the pull of death. The world of Mrs Dalloway is evoked in Woolf's famous stream of consciousness style, in a lyrical and haunting language which has made this, from its publication in 1925, one of her most popular novels.
