Book Adolescent Risk Behavior and Self Regulation

Download or read book Adolescent Risk Behavior and Self Regulation written by Franz Resch and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-12 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the idea that increasing juvenile risk behaviours – like substance abuse, nonsuicidal self-injury, and antisocial or suicidal behaviour – allow adolescents to fulfill developmental tasks like identity-formation and regulation of self-worth. Narcissistic self-exploitation, mobility tasks, flexibility and the challenges of new media exert social pressure on parental figures, distracting and putting strain on their mental resources, which in turn changes and even destroys the emotional dialogue with their offspring. If children themselves experience neglect and lack of emotional bonding - resulting in a lack of self-regulating capacities – risk behaviours are the consequence. The book combines different views in the psychological, social and metatheoretical domains. It consists of three parts: developmental problems of young people, diagnosis of risk behaviours in the nosological framework, and presentation of new morbidity with an increase in symptom prevalence. The book also discusses the threat of the acceleration of social processes and the risks of postmodern society.

Book excerpt: The series Arts - Creativity - Therapies is intended to help to satisfy the increasing demand for non-fiction books concerning interventions with artistic-creative media on the basis of gaining social-scientific - educational-scientific insight. Experience and field research examples are in the foreground here. In other words, the intention is to speak about practice governed by theory, but also to communicate the fundamentals of art and creativity which make it possible for the experts to keep up close contacts with newer developments in science and art. The function of the word "Therapy" is to express the relation to application in a professionalisation which covers the pre-school, school, university, clinical, advisory as well as the rehabilitatory sector. It is a response to the necessity for an all-encompassing professional orientation - with a helping, instructing, informing, supporting purpose. Teachers and educators, social workers and social educators, arts and creative therapists, music and exercise therapists, formative and occupational therapists as well as arts and museum educators, remedial and special educators should all be able to benefit from this series. The involvement of artistic-creative media serves to improve healing chances as well as increase the quality of life and acquire strategies which help to cope with particular pressures of life.

Book Textbook of Community Psychiatry

Download or read book Textbook of Community Psychiatry written by Graham Thornicroft and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2001 with total page 585 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years the practice of psychiatry has changed fundamentally. Mentally ill people have been moved out of the large institutions, with their clear structures and hierarchies, and into the community. This shift has required the development of new service structures, new facilities, new attitudes and new professional relationships. This book provides the first authoritative, international review of community psychiatry, taking into consideration theoretical as well as clinical issues. The key aim of the book is to review the status of community psychiatry throughout the developed world, presenting a comprehensive and critical exposition of the achievements, limitations and dilemmas in the theoretical base and the practical implementation of a community-based strategy. The book covers the available evidence base, gaps in that evidence base and describes, where possible, best practice for treatment and care. Current areas of theoretical and professional conflict are also covered. There are two main sections of the book; the first describes psychiatry for the community, in which the population needs for psychiatric care are considered. The second major section examines psychiatry in the community, describing how the service systems are designed to meet these needs. The final section of the book examines ethical issues and dilemmas. With 46 chapters from the leading international experts in the field, this book will be essential reading for all those working with the mentally ill in the 21st century.
