Book KNAUSS MUSIC CURRICULUM Book 4 Grades 6 12

Download or read book KNAUSS MUSIC CURRICULUM Book 4 Grades 6 12 written by David Knauss and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover how, in this curriculum of five books 1, 1A, 2, 3, and 4, music elements (music concepts) are scope-and-sequence taught through learning the active-participation music skills of listening, singing / chanting, moving, playing / performing, improvising / creating, composing / arranging, reading / notating, and describing / evaluating. Also discover how music skills begin with discrimination (rote) learning and progress to the limitless creative levels of inferential learning. Discover how every person at any age can sing in tune (tonal skill) and perform a steady beat (rhythm skill). Singing in tune develops into maintaining intonation with an accurate tonal center, and performing a steady beat develops into maintaining a consistent tempo with an accurate meter. These two skills are the Gateway Skills to all of music. When learned, spectators turn into life-long participators, and the whole realm of music becomes available. Discover how a curriculum, which is not a textbook or music series book, can be your pathway into ultimate teaching freedom and your students' exciting journey into realms of limitless artistic creativity. Discover in Book 4 how music students, individually and in groups, create, compose, arrange, describe, evaluate, improvise, notate, and manipulate music (inferential learning)-the highest processing skills in music education. Thirty self-evaluating and self-grading units from basic theory activities to the highest levels of music processing lead students into ultimate levels of creativity. Each unit provides directions, end-product examples, ready-made student worksheets, and a self-evaluation form. Students also learn basic digital keyboarding and music sequencing (MIDI) skills. Book Kod ly in the Fourth Grade Classroom

Download or read book Kod ly in the Fourth Grade Classroom written by Mícheál Houlahan and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2015 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the mid-twentieth century, Zoltán Kodály's child-developmental philosophy for teaching music has had significant positive impact on music education around the world, and is now at the core of music teaching in the United States and other English speaking countries. The Kodály Today handbook series is the first comprehensive system to update and apply the Kodály concepts to teaching music in elementary school classrooms. Kodály in the Fourth Grade Classroom provides teachers with a step-by-step road map for developing children's performance, creative movement, and literacy skills in an organic and thoughtful manner. Through six years of field-testing with music teachers in the United States, Great Britain, and Hungary (the home country of Zoltán Kodály), authors Micheál Houlahan and Philip Tacka have developed a methodology specifically for 21st century classrooms. Houlahan and Tacka use the latest research findings in cognition and perception to create a system not only appropriate for the developmental stages of fourth graders but also one which integrates vertically between elementary music classes. The methods outlined in this volume encourage greater musical ability and creativity in children by teaching them to sing, move, play instruments, and develop music literacy skills. In addition, Kodály in the Fourth Grade Classroom promotes critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration skills. Although the book uses the Kodály philosophy, its methodology has also been tested by teachers certified in Orff and Dalcroze, and has proven an essential guide for teachers no matter what their personal philosophy and specific training might be. Over 100 children's books are incorporated into Kodály in the Fourth Grade Classroom, as well as 35 detailed lesson plans that demonstrate how music and literacy curriculum goals are transformed into tangible musical objectives. Scholarly yet practical and accessible, this volume is sure to be an essential guide for elementary music teachers everywhere.

Book Music Curriculum Units Implementing the National Standards for Arts Education for Grades One and Five in American Jewish Day Schools

Download or read book Music Curriculum Units Implementing the National Standards for Arts Education for Grades One and Five in American Jewish Day Schools written by Beth Stutzmann and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this research was to develop, teach and evaluate curricular units, designed around four holidays (Shabbat, Hanukkah, Tu B’shevat, and Purim), for first and fifth grades in American Jewish day schools. The music curriculum-units were created based on the information received from surveys which also queried information on music programs and their curricula within these schools located in the Eastern and Southern division of The National Association for Music Education. Administrators and music teachers at Jewish day schools, through the surveys, verified that these schools did not have a unifying philosophy or Jewish day school music book series for use and they agreed on the following: 1) that music material should not be totally liturgical rather it should be a combination of secular and liturgical music; 2) that music should be used as a tool to reinforce other Jewish day school classes; 3) that performance was not the most important part of the music program; 4) that the primary purpose of classroom music was to develop musical knowledge and skills utilizing a broad range of music and literature; 5) that the primary purpose of classroom music instruction was not to provide entertainment recreation for students, parents or community; 6) that the primary purpose of music was not to teach Jewish values, traditions and history; 7) that one purpose of music education was to teach music of othercultures; and 8) that music in a Jewish day school should be considered and instructed as a core subject. Even though administrators and music teachers agreed that music should be a core subject, music teachers indicated that music classes were only considered enrichment classes. A Jewish day school music philosophy; a music curriculum map; and music curriculum-units for first and fifth grades are included.

  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 232 pages

Download or read book Discovering Orff written by Jane Frazee and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (Schott). This book is intended for those who want detailed, practical assistance in how and why to use Orff techniques and materials in the classroom. Goals are outlined and the best ways to achieve them are explored, but the principal focus is on the arrangement of the curriculum in a logical sequence. Such a structure provides a reasonable progression from simple to more complex objectives not only from day to day but from year to year. Structured learning need not be the enemy of improvisation but rather the best way to provide students with the tools they need to improvise. The book contains an introduction to the development of Orff-Schulwerk and a discussion of the distinguishing features of this approach. Chapter Two introduces the activities children use in their music-making. The teaching procedure that structures those activities is taken up in Chapter Three while Chapter Four explains the vocabulary and accompaniment theory essential to the Orff teacher. Part Two applies these elements in a sequential curriculum designed for Grades One through Five. Especially important in each chapter is the inclusion of supporting activities designed to aid in teaching the various skills and concepts.
