Download or read book The Encyclopedia of Muscle Cars written by Jim Campisano and published by Metro Publishing, Limited. This book was released on 2002-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Feel the heat--the street heat from the 1960s and 70, when the meanest, fastest, and most powerful cars tore up the streets. Jim Campisano, editor in chief of Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords magazine, has written the ultimate, illustrated A to Z field guide of these supreme, extreme American vehicles. Muscle cars came onto the market when Detroit's "big three" manufacturers (Chevy, Ford, and Pontiac) decided to compete for a younger, more performance-obsessed buyer at the end of the 1950s. Gone were the bulky "land boats" with their huge fins; instead, out came lean ponycars, like the Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible and the Ford Falcon, pumped up on big-inch, high-compression, multiple-carburetor equipped super-mills. Though they were sold to the general public, any one of them, with only minor adjustments, could have won on the superspeedways of the NASCAR circuit. Even now, three decades after these gas-guzzling greyhounds went out of style, they regularly attract new generations of admirers throughout the world.

Book 1971 Plymouth Cuda

Download or read book 1971 Plymouth Cuda written by Ola Nilsson and published by CarTech Inc. This book was released on 2017-01-16 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When the Barracuda arrived in the Plymouth lineup in mid-1964, it was given an unbearable task: compete against the new Ford Mustang. Out the gate, it was outsold by a 6 to 1 margin. Barracuda could always compete with Mustang in the performance category, but aesthetically it just wasn't accepted like its Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro counterparts. That was until 1970, when a complete re-design in the E-Body platform turned the tide. In terms of performance, the 1970-1974 Barracudas and Challengers were every bit the measure of the Ford and GM offerings. By 1971, the handsome Barracuda had established itself as one of the best-performing cars in the marketplace. Ordering the ’Cuda, owners could lay waste to Mustang and Camaro owners with such stout engine packages as the 440-6 and 426 Hemi. Sales numbers never did match that of its cross-town rivals, but in the end, the 1971 ’Cuda won the war. No other mass-production Pony Car can consistently claim asking prices of $2,000,000 its top model (in today's prices). As in all In Detail Series books, you get an introduction and historical overview, an explanation of the design and concepts involved in creating the car, a look at marketing and promotion, an in-depth study of all hardware and available options, as well as an examination of where the car is on the market today. Also included are paint and option codes, VIN and build tag decoders, as well as production numbers.

Book Field Guide to the Apocalypse

Download or read book Field Guide to the Apocalypse written by Meg Marco and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2009-12-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: the end is near Surviving the apocalypse is one thing. Enjoying life after most of civilization is wiped out -- that's entirely different. Maybe you can outrun an avalanche, or escape a burning building, but can you really cut it after the unthinkable happens? Can you, for example, deal with damn dirty apes, convert your car to run on bathtub gin, or synthesize a species-saving vaccine from your own mucus? No? Obviously, it's not going to be as easy as you thought to come out of Armageddon as the new ruling king of the world. Any chump off the street could be lucky enough to have the immunity to survive the all-of-humanity-killing disease, or be the one dude who happens to make it through a meteor strike. But not everyone will know what clothes to wear to intimidate, or what kind of vehicle you want to be driving in the postapocalyptic wasteland. Not everyone will have the sense to discern whether their food is, in fact, people. You can survive the apocalypse without this book. But the apocalypse isn't the problem: It's what happens afterward. You against the other people left in the world. You'd better be prepared.

Book excerpt: From the foreword: ". . . these cars aren't rare or unique, but they have other things going for them. Sometimes they were the subject of amazing restorations or rescue efforts. Sometimes, against all odds, they remained in one family for generations, or were babied to extremes and today have ridiculously low totals on their odometers. These are the cars that have stories. They might not have been amazing when they were new, but they are unique now because of the lives they've lived and the owners who have sat in their driver's seats. They've got history, and if they could talk, what amazing tales they could tell us!"
