Download or read book Catalytic and Kinetic Waves in Polarography written by Stal G. Mairanovskii and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As our knowledge of the mechanism of electrode processes increases, it becomes more and more apparent that the kinetic currents first observed by R. Brdicka and by K. Wiesner in the 1940's are very widely encountered. Very many electrode pro cesses contain a chemical stage. * This is true primarily of elec trode processes that involve organic compounds. Therefore, to understand the mechanism of electrode processes and, particular ly, to correctly interpret the results of polarographic investiga tions, it is important to know the characteristics and relationships controlling the chemical reactions taking place at the electrode surface. Generally, these reactions are substantially different from ordinary chemical reactions taking place in the bulk of the solution, since the reactions at the electrodes are often affected by the electric field of the electrode and the adsorption of the par ticipating compounds . The fact that hydrogen ions usuallY take part in the electro chemical reduction of organic compounds makes possible the use of electrochemical methods, particularly polarography, for the study of protolytic reactions. These reactions play an important role in organic chemistry: the majority of reactions of organic compounds in solutions go through a stage in which a hydrogen ion is removed or added (see, for example, [1, 2]). Therefore, the polarographic study of protolytic reactions can supply much important information to theoretical organic chemistry.

Download or read book Electrochemical Methods of Nanostructure Preparation written by László Péter and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-24 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes the electrochemical routes of nanostructure preparation in a systematic and didactic manner. It provides a comprehensive overview of electrodeposition, anodization, carbon nanotube preparation and other methods of nanostructure fabrication, combining essential information on the physical background of electrochemistry with materials science aspects of the field. The book includes a brief introduction to general electrochemistry with an emphasis on physico-chemical aspects, followed by a description of the sample preparation methods. In each chapter, an overview of the particular method is accompanied by a discussion of the relevant physical or chemical properties of the materials, including magnetic, mechanical, optical, catalytic, sensoric and other features. While some preparation methods are discussed in connection with the theories of physical electrochemistry (e.g. electrodeposition), the book also covers methods that are more heuristic but nonetheless utilize electric current (e.g. anodization of porous alumina or synthesis of carbon nanotubes by means of electric arc discharge).

Download or read book The Fundamentals of Electrochemistry written by Yuliy D. Gamburg and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-03-31 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This novel, precise and concise text-book presents the foundations of electrochemistry, which is more a physical science than a chemical one. Familiarity with this topic is necessary to understand such areas as chemical power sources (Li-ion and other batteries), production of hydrogen, oxygen and other substances, application of metal coatings, manufacture of foils and nanomaterials, corrosion protection. All this is connected with the passage of electric current through solutions and with the electromotive forces. This book is a systematic presentation of all aspects of electrochemistry from theoretical foundations to practical use. It outlines the most important concepts and provides a derivation of the basic formulas. Electrochemical methods of research are described in detail. The book largely focuses on the electrochemistry of metals, which is especially convenient to explain the most important concepts. The addressees of this textbook are students of physical, technical and chemical specialities, researchers using electrochemical methods, employees in electrochemical industries, teachers wanting to improve their knowledge in these topics. It can be used by the readers without formal training; the mathematics and physics here demand the level corresponding to the first course of a technical university.
