Book Commutative Algebras of Toeplitz Operators on the Bergman Space

Download or read book Commutative Algebras of Toeplitz Operators on the Bergman Space written by Nikolai Vasilevski and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-11-20 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book is devoted to the detailed study of the recently discovered commutative C*-algebras of Toeplitz operators on the Bergman space over the unit disk. Surprisingly, the key point to understanding their structure and classifying them lies in the hyperbolic geometry of the unit disk. The book develops a number of important problems whose successful solution was made possible and is based on the specific features of the Toeplitz operators from these commutative algebras.

Book Introduction to Operator Theory and Invariant Subspaces

Download or read book Introduction to Operator Theory and Invariant Subspaces written by B. Beauzamy and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1988-10-01 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph only requires of the reader a basic knowledge of classical analysis: measure theory, analytic functions, Hilbert spaces, functional analysis. The book is self-contained, except for a few technical tools, for which precise references are given.Part I starts with finite-dimensional spaces and general spectral theory. But very soon (Chapter III), new material is presented, leading to new directions for research. Open questions are mentioned here. Part II concerns compactness and its applications, not only spectral theory for compact operators (Invariant Subspaces and Lomonossov's Theorem) but also duality between the space of nuclear operators and the space of all operators on a Hilbert space, a result which is seldom presented. Part III contains Algebra Techniques: Gelfand's Theory, and application to Normal Operators. Here again, directions for research are indicated. Part IV deals with analytic functions, and contains a few new developments. A simplified, operator-oriented, version is presented. Part V presents dilations and extensions: Nagy-Foias dilation theory, and the author's work about C1-contractions. Part VI deals with the Invariant Subspace Problem, with positive results and counter-examples.In general, much new material is presented. On the Invariant Subspace Problem, the level of research is reached, both in the positive and negative directions.

Book Modern Approaches to the Invariant Subspace Problem

Download or read book Modern Approaches to the Invariant Subspace Problem written by Isabelle Chalendar and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-08-18 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the major unsolved problems in operator theory is the fifty-year-old invariant subspace problem, which asks whether every bounded linear operator on a Hilbert space has a nontrivial closed invariant subspace. This book presents some of the major results in the area, including many that were derived within the past few years and cannot be found in other books. Beginning with a preliminary chapter containing the necessary pure mathematical background, the authors present a variety of powerful techniques, including the use of the operator-valued Poisson kernel, various forms of the functional calculus, Hardy spaces, fixed point theorems, minimal vectors, universal operators and moment sequences. The subject is presented at a level accessible to postgraduate students, as well as established researchers. It will be of particular interest to those who study linear operators and also to those who work in other areas of pure mathematics.

Book Approximation of Invariant Subspaces

Download or read book Approximation of Invariant Subspaces written by Faruk Yilmaz (Researcher in mathematics) and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a real number [alpha] the Dirichlet-type spaces [script D sub alpha] are the family of Hilbert spaces consisting of all analytic functions f(z) = [sum over n equals zero to infinity] [f hat of n] [z to the n] defined on the open unit disc [unit disc] such that [sum over n equals 0 to infinity] [(n+1) to alpha] [ | f hat of n |2] is finite. For [alpha] 0, the spaces [script D sub alpha] are known as weighted Bergman spaces. When [alpha]= 0, then [script D]0= H2, the well known and much studied Hardy space. For [alpha] 0, the [script D sub alpha] spaces are weighted Dirichlet spaces. The characterization of the invariant subspaces of the multiplication operator [M sub z] on the [script D sub alpha] spaces depends on [alpha], and it is partially still an open problem. The invariant subspaces of [script D]2 have been characterized in 1972 by B. I. Korenblum [25]. In this dissertation we show that the invariant subspaces of [script D]2 can be approximated by finite co-dimensional invariant subspaces. For the Dirichlet space D= [script D]1, there is no complete characterization of invariant subspaces, but we consider [D subscript E] [equals] [{f[in]D : [f superscript *] = 0 q.e. [quasi-everywhere] on E}] where E [subset] T [unit circle] is a Carleson thin set. In this case, we have a partial result. In the second part of the dissertation we prove a regularity result for extremal functions in the Dirichlet space D. If [phi] is an extremal function in the Dirichlet space, then we use a result of Richter and Sundberg [35] to show that for each point on the unit circle T the square of the absolute value of [phi] converges to its boundary value in certain tangential approach regions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there has been a large amount of work on invariant subspaces, motivated by interest in the structure of non-self-adjoint of the results have been obtained in operators on Hilbert space. Some the context of certain general studies: the theory of the characteristic operator function, initiated by Livsic; the study of triangular models by Brodskii and co-workers; and the unitary dilation theory of Sz. Nagy and Foia!? Other theorems have proofs and interest independent of any particular structure theory. Since the leading workers in each of the structure theories have written excellent expositions of their work, (cf. Sz.-Nagy-Foia!? [1], Brodskii [1], and Gohberg-Krein [1], [2]), in this book we have concentrated on results independent of these theories. We hope that we have given a reasonably complete survey of such results and suggest that readers consult the above references for additional information. The table of contents indicates the material covered. We have restricted ourselves to operators on separable Hilbert space, in spite of the fact that most of the theorems are valid in all Hilbert spaces and many hold in Banach spaces as well. We felt that this restriction was sensible since it eases the exposition and since the separable-Hilbert space case of each of the theorems is generally the most interesting and potentially the most useful case.

Book Operators and Function Theory

Download or read book Operators and Function Theory written by S.C. Power and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the modern study of Hilbert space operators there has been an increasingly subtle involvement with analytic function theory. This is evident in the analysis of subnormal operators, Toeplitz operators and Hankel operators, for example. On the other hand the operator theoretic viewpoint of interpolation by analytic functions is a powerful one. There has been significant activity in recent years, within these enriching interactions, and the time seemed right for an overview ot the main lines of development. The Advanced Study Institute 'Operators and Function Theory' in Lancaster, 1984, was devoted to this, and this book contains ex panded versions (and one contraction) of the main lecture prog ramme. These varied articles, by prominent researchers, include, for example, a survey of recent results on subnormal operators, recent work of Soviet mathematicians on Hankel and Toeplitz operators, expositions of the decomposition theory and inter polation theory for Bergman, Besov and Bloch spaces, with applic ations for special operators, the Krein space approach to inter polation problems, •• and much more. It is hoped that these proceedings will bring all this lively mathematics to a wider audience. Sincere thanks are due to the Scientific Committee of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation for the generous support that made the institute possible, and to the London Mathematical Society and the British Council for important additional support. Warm thanks also go to Barry Johnson and the L.M.S. for early guidance, and to my colleague Graham Jameson for much organisational support.

Book Invariant Subspaces of the Shift Operator

Download or read book Invariant Subspaces of the Shift Operator written by Javad Mashreghi and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2015-04-23 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the CRM Workshop on Invariant Subspaces of the Shift Operator, held August 26-30, 2013, at the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques, Université de Montréal, Montréal, Quebec, Canada. The main theme of this volume is the invariant subspaces of the shift operator (or its adjoint) on certain function spaces, in particular, the Hardy space, Dirichlet space, and de Branges-Rovnyak spaces. These spaces, and the action of the shift operator on them, have turned out to be a precious tool in various questions in analysis such as function theory (Bieberbach conjecture, rigid functions, Schwarz-Pick inequalities), operator theory (invariant subspace problem, composition operator), and systems and control theory. Of particular interest is the Dirichlet space, which is one of the classical Hilbert spaces of holomorphic functions on the unit disk. From many points of view, the Dirichlet space is an interesting and challenging example of a function space. Though much is known about it, several important open problems remain, most notably the characterization of its zero sets and of its shift-invariant subspaces. This book is co-published with the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fifteen years ago, most mathematicians who worked in the intersection of function theory and operator theory thought that progress on the Bergman spaces was unlikely, yet today the situation has completely changed. For several years, research interest and activity have expanded in this area and there are now rich theories describing the Bergman spaces and their operators. This book is a timely treatment of the theory, written by three of the major players in the field.

Book Invariant Subspaces and Other Topics

Download or read book Invariant Subspaces and Other Topics written by Apostol and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 1982 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The annual Operator Theory conferences in Timigoara are conceived as a means to promote cooperation and exchange of in formation between specialists in all areas of Operator Theory. The present volume consist of papers contributed by the partici pants of the 1981 Conference. Since many of these papers contain results on the invariant subspace problem or are related to the role of invariant subspaces in the study of operators or operator systems, we thought it appropiate to mention this in the title of the volume, though the "other topics" have a wide range. As in past years, special sessions concerning other fields of Functio nal Analysis were organized at the 1981 Conference, but contri butions to these sessions are not included in the present volume. The research contracts of the Department of Mathematics of INCREST with the National Council for Sciences and Technology of Romaliia provided the means for developping the research activity in Functional Analysis; these contracts constitute the generous framework for these meetings. We want also to acknowledge the support of INCREST and the excelent organizing job done by our host - University of Timigoa ra-. Professor Dumitru Gagpar and Professor Mircea Reghig are among those people in Timigoara who contributed in an essential way to the success of the meeting.
