Book Multiphoton Laser induced fluorescence Studies of Simple Species

Download or read book Multiphoton Laser induced fluorescence Studies of Simple Species written by and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent studies have demonstrated multiple-photon excitation of atomic species. Bischel and coworkers have provided a detailed description of two-photon excitation fluorescence in the detection of atoms generated in a low pressure discharge and its possible application as a diagnostic tool in flame and plasmas. It is also believed that such techniques can be useful in detecting molecular transients which are difficult to detect otherwise as demonstrated in two-photon laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) detection of NO. In this paper, we discuss our recent two-photon LIF studies on I and Br atoms, which are produced via laser photolysis of molecular precursors. The two-photon LIF study of HS and DS radicals is presented as a test case for the detection of other important radical species such as C2H and CH3, which are currently being investigated in our laboratory. In addition, excitation of three-photon resonances of I2, N2, and H2 is discussed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This conference on both the physics and chemistry of laser-induced processes in molecules was organized by the Quantum Electronics Divisional Board of the European Physical Society whose membership is given on p.367. The confer ence aim, to mix physicists and chemists interested in this exciting field both from Europe and further afield, was well fulfilled by the attendance of around 250 participants and the submission of about 100 papers, which dre presented here. Numerous people at both the Physics Department, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, and at the Projektgruppe fUr Laserforschung, MPI, Garching, con tributed hard work to the organization; in addition to Dr. Bob Harrison, who bore the biggest burden with conspicuous success, we particularly thank Hugh MacKenzie, Richard Dennis and last but not least Miss Joanne Askham and the secretaries in Edinburgh together with Frau Doris Maischberger and the secretaries in Garching. Book Low Temperature Laser induced Fluorescence Studies of Chromophores in Soft Solids and Biological Matter

This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low-temperature laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy has various applications in analytical, physical, and biophysical chemistry. This technique provides information on the fluorescence origin band, zero-phonon lines and phonon-sidebands, inhomogeneous broadening, electron-phonon coupling strength, and ground- and excited-state vibrational frequencies of studied molecules. Examples discussed in this work include studies of DNA/metabolites and monoclonal antibody (mAb)/antigen interactions. The structural basis for the increased reactivity of BPDE towards guanines at 5-methylcytosine ([superscript]M[superscripte]eC):G sites in DNA was investigated by low temperature laser-based spectroscopy, studying the nature of physical complexes of benzo[a]pyrene tetraol in a series of 5-methylcytosine structural DNA analogs. We found that the presence of a C-5 substituent on cytosine and related structural modifications influences the conformation of BPT in DNA analogs, and could explain the increase in guanine reactivity at [superscript]M[superscript]eC:G sites of the p53 tumor suppressor gene that contains endogenenous 5-([superscript]M[superscript]eC. It has been demonstrated that various mAbs can bind a particular cross-reactant by adopting two distinct "red" and "blue" conformations of its binding sites. We showed that the blue conformation of pyrene in several mAbs (including 4D5 mAb) is consistent with [pi]-cation interactions, underscoring the importance of [pi]-cation interaction in ligand binding. We propose that considerable narrowing of the fluorescence origin band of the ligand in the protein environment could be regarded as a simple indicator of [pi]-cation interactions. It is also shown that time-resolved delta fluorescence line-narrowing ([delta]FLN) spectroscopy, using excitation within the (0,0)-transition band, provides more reliable information of the frequency dependence of the electron-phonon coupling (Huang-Rhys factor, (S
