The book also addresses students, and in addition encourages further research. Based on the concept of averaging the field equations, conservation and balance equations are developed. A material deformation postulate leads to structured mixtures. The resulting model is compared with those in use elsewhere. The final chapters are devoted to constitutive theory and constitutive equations. In particular, two-phase mixtures are treated in some detail.

Book Investigation of Explosion Characteristics of Multiphase Fuel Mixtures with Air

Download or read book Investigation of Explosion Characteristics of Multiphase Fuel Mixtures with Air written by Emmanuel Kwasi Addai and published by Western Engineering, Inc.. This book was released on 2016-10-10 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explosion hazards involving mixtures of different states of aggregation continue to occur in facilities where dusts, gases or solvents are handled or processed. In order to prevent or mitigate the risk associated with these mixtures, more knowledge of the explosion behavior of hybrid mixtures is required. The aim of this study is to undertake an extensive investigation on the explosion phenomenon of hybrid mixtures to obtain insight into the driving mechanisms and the explosion features affecting the course of hybrid mixture explosions. This was accomplished by performing an extensive experimental and theoretical investigation on the various explosion parameters such as: minimum ignition temperature, minimum ignition energy, limiting oxygen concentration, lower explosion limits and explosion severity. Mixtures of twenty combustible dusts ranging from food substances, metals, plastics, natural products, fuels and artificial materials; three gases; and six solvents were used to carry out this study. Three different standard equipments: the 20-liter sphere (for testing lower explosion limits, limiting oxygen concentration and explosion severity), the modified Hartmann apparatus (for testing minimum ignition energy) and the modified Godbert–Greenwald (GG) furnace (for testing minimum ignition temperature) were used. The test protocols were in accordance with the European standard procedures for dust testing for each parameter. However, modifications were made on each equipment in order to test the explosion properties of gases, solvents, and hybrid mixtures. The experimental results demonstrated a significant decrease of the minimum ignition temperature, minimum ignition energy and limiting oxygen concentration of gas or solvent and increase in the likelihood of explosion when a small amount of dust, which was either below the minimum explosion concentration or not ignitable by itself, was mixed with gas or solvent and vice versa. For example, methane with minimum ignition temperature of 600 °C decreased to 530 °C when 30 g/m3 of toner dust, which is 50 % below its minimum explosible concentration was, added. A similar explosion behavior was observed for minimum ignition energy and limiting oxygen concentration. Furthermore, it was generally observed that the addition of a non-explosible concentration of flammable gas or spray to a dust-air mixture increases the maximum explosion pressure to some extent and significantly increases the maximum rate of pressure rise of the dust mixture, even though the added concentrations of gases or vapor are below its lower explosion limit. Finally, it could be said that, one cannot rely on the explosion properties of a single substance to ensure full protection of an equipment or a process if substances with different states of aggregate are present.

Book Separation of Multiphase Multicomponent Systems

Download or read book Separation of Multiphase Multicomponent Systems written by Emmanuil G. Sinaiski and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-09-24 with total page 810 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This highly detailed reference represents an elaborate development of the theory of processing oil and natural gas and its application in the field -- indispensable for graduate engineering students and professionals alike. The renowned expert author, a professor at Moscow State University, has ample experience in both lecturing and publishing, albeit in the Russian language. This book is thus the first to provide a translation compiling his extensive knowledge, much of which remained unpublished due to security restrictions in the former Soviet Union. Based upon and compiled from Professor Sinaiski's university lectures, the first chapters treat the technical facilities for preparing and processing natural hydrocarbon substances. The following systematic approach go on to explain the behaviors of fluids, gases and droplets separately for solutions, suspensions and emulsions, as well as for gas-liquid mixtures. The resulting work is of interest both for senior students as well as for engineers working in this field.

Book Multiphase Equilibria of Complex Reservoir Fluids

Download or read book Multiphase Equilibria of Complex Reservoir Fluids written by Huazhou Li and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-30 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This short monograph focuses on the theoretical backgrounds and practical implementations concerning the thermodynamic modeling of multiphase equilibria of complex reservoir fluids using cubic equations of state. It aims to address the increasing needs of multiphase equilibrium calculations that arise in the compositional modeling of multiphase flow in reservoirs and wellbores. It provides a state-of-the-art coverage on the recent improvements of cubic equations of state. Considering that stability test and flash calculation are two basic tasks involved in any multiphase equilibrium calculations, it elaborates on the rigorous mathematical frameworks dedicated to stability test and flash calculation. A special treatment is given to the new algorithms that are recently developed to perform robust and efficient three-phase equilibrium calculations. This monograph will be of value to graduate students who conduct research in the field of phase behavior, as well as software engineers who work on the development of multiphase equilibrium calculation algorithms.

  • Pages : 500 pages

Download or read book Multiphase Mixtures written by Paul Stevenson and published by . This book was released on 2010-06-09 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mixtures of different phases of matter are commonly found in unit operations of chemical engineering and minerals processing. Such classes of mixtures include bubbly liquids, fluidized particles, suspensions foams and emulsions. These classes of mixtures appear, at first glance, to be physically disparate. However, it will be demonstrated, in this book, that there exist great similarities between the physics that underpin the behavior of these different classes. Various unit operations in which multiphase mixtures are found are described and methods commonly used to enhance phase segregation are explained. Copious worked examples are given to aid reader comprehension. The material presented is suitable for the undergraduate who wishes to gain a broad understanding of multiphase mixtures, and the practicing engineer who seeks information on a specific class of mixture, alike.

Book Drag Reduction of Complex Mixtures

Download or read book Drag Reduction of Complex Mixtures written by Keizo Watanabe and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2018-06-15 with total page 222 pages. Comprehensively addresses a range of drag reduction themes involving different kinds of complex mixtures Provides data to support further experimentation and computer modeling of drag in complex flow Includes an introduction to the nature and characteristics of different kinds of complex mixtures

Book Flows and Chemical Reactions in Heterogeneous Mixtures

Download or read book Flows and Chemical Reactions in Heterogeneous Mixtures written by Roger Prud'homme and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-10-30 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book - a sequel of previous publications 'Flows and Chemical Reactions' and 'Chemical Reactions in Flows and Homogeneous Mixtures' - is devoted to flows with chemical reactions in heterogeneous environments. Heterogeneous media in this volume include interfaces and lines. They may be the site of radiation. Each type of flow is the subject of a chapter in this volume. We consider first, in Chapter 1, the question of the generation of environments biphasic individuals: dusty gas, mist, bubble flow. Chapter 2 is devoted to the study at the mesoscopic scale: particle-fluid exchange of momentum and heat with determination of the respective exchange coefficients. In Chapter 3, we establish simplified equations of macroscopic balance for mass, for the momentum and energy, in the case of particles of one size (monodisperse suspension). Radiative phenomena are presented in Chapter 5.
