Book Multinational Enterprise Acquisitions in Emerging Markets

Download or read book Multinational Enterprise Acquisitions in Emerging Markets written by Rebecca Firth and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study focuses on the linkages occurring between UK service multinationals and their local suppliers in China and Korea. We consider the effects of linkage formation on domestic firms. Data collection was undertaken over a three-year period whereby qualitative in-depth interviews were carried out with managers in the UK headquarter, the subsidiary and the 'linked' local firm in order to facilitate a multi-perspective approach. Results indicate that the factors which facilitate linkage formation are subsidiary-related variables, primarily the mode of entry, subsidiary autonomy, level of embeddedness and subsidiary role. The key contribution of this paper is to extend the literature on linkages to consider services whilst developing a relevant conceptual framework. Overall, our study confirms the extreme importance of the subsidiary in linkage formation and also how the externalities occurring from linkage formation may benefit local firms and subsequently aid local economic development as a whole.

Book Acquisitions by Emerging Multinational Corporations

Download or read book Acquisitions by Emerging Multinational Corporations written by Johannes Distler and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-27 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis analyzes the motivation and performance of 403 acquisitions made by emerging multinational corporations (EMNCs) in Western Europe and North America between 1994 and 2013. The findings indicate that most EMNCs were motivated to acquire in order to obtain access to the upstream and downstream know-how of their target firms. In addition, the thesis' event study results demonstrate that EMNCs on average generated value for their shareholders with their acquisitions over short periods around acquisition announcement. This result is particularly significant since similar studies on buying firms from developed markets have frequently come to the conclusion that acquirers destroy shareholder value.

In addition, the book explores various dimensions of M&A deals in order to summarize the main trends in corporate control markets in the largest emerging countries, and how they differ from those in developed countries; to identify deal-performance relationships and the determinants of success or failure; to reveal the drivers for the premium in M&A deals; and to capture market responses to different M&A strategies. By doing so, the book makes a significant contribution to the literature, which has to date largely focused on developed markets.

Book Turkish Multinationals

Download or read book Turkish Multinationals written by Yuksel Ayden and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-08-07 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the internationalization of Turkish multinationals by examining a set of firms from various industries and providing eleven detailed case studies. The authors aim to discover the reasons behind the drive for internationalization within the firms, and how their internationalization processes work. By focusing on a medium-sized emerging country, which is strategically located at the intersection of European, Asian and African markets, Turkish Multinationals provide a significant contribution to research on multinational firms in emerging countries. Topics discussed include: strategic motives for and drivers of internationalization at multiple levels (firm, industry and institutional); the location, ownership and entry modes of multinational firms; and their market entry and post-acquisition strategies, which are critical to the evolution of the internationalization process. This innovative book will offer an alternative perspective to current debate on emerging markets, and will be of great interest to both academics of global strategy and international business, and policy-makers.

Book Success Factors of International Mergers and Acquisitions

Download or read book Success Factors of International Mergers and Acquisitions written by Eduard Fuchs and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2010-09 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Economic Policy, grade: 1,7, University of Kent (Kent Business School), language: English, abstract: The history of mankind is marked by the striving of a person to surpass oneself. In the early days growth was mainly achieved by enlarging the own family, and during the times of sedentarisation growth was achieved by claiming more areas of arable land. These two human characteristics have survived to the present day and have been transferred into modern world economy - on the one hand striving for more and on the other hand the increase of own power or influence. Nowadays those men are called entrepreneurs, and they take care of these things in the economic world through Mergers and Acquisitions. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that this kind of enterprise growth has found more and more approval in the course of the last years. It is easy to recognize that development by comparing the impressively increasing transaction volumes. That this trend will obviously continue has been confirmed by one of the most recent surveys conducted by the Boston Consulting Group (Kronimus et al., 2009). According to the survey every fifth company in Europe plans an acquisition in the year 2010 - in spite of the continuing economic crisis. These figures look impressive, but if one gets deeper into the subject, one realises that almost 70% of these mergers do not achieve the intended objectives (Palmer, n.d.), or are even regarded as a complete failure (Habeck et al., 2000). Remarkable is the fact that there are even unsuccessful mergers involving financially sound companies. Therefore, it can be concluded that the success of a merger or a takeover not only depends on the financial evaluation of the involved organisations but rather that there must be other factors which play a significant role. These other factors will be identified in this paper and their importance will be critically discussed.

Book excerpt: Multinationals from Brazil, Russia, India and China, known as the BRIC countries, are a new and powerful force in global competition and are challenging the incumbency of much older global companies from the developed world. Emerging market multinational enterprises (EMNEs) now account for a quarter of foreign investment in the world, are a prolific source of innovation and make almost one in three cross-border acquisitions globally. Despite this, traditional theories of international business do not provide a satisfactory explanation of their behaviour or performance. The authors of this book shine new light on the rise of the EMNEs and how they have built a competitive advantage through innovation, novel configurations of their international value chains and the acquisition of companies overseas. Any manager, policy maker or researcher who wishes to understand the emergence of this new breed of multinational will find this book an invaluable resource.

Book How do multinational companies from emerging markets gain competitive advantages in global markets

Download or read book How do multinational companies from emerging markets gain competitive advantages in global markets written by Jonas Dubiel and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2020-09-22 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,3, Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (Department of International Management), language: English, abstract: The purpose of the thesis is to present selected business strategies and link them with the ability of Emerging Market Multinational Enterprises (EMNEs) to build and strengthen competitive advantages. Further to that uses the thesis empirical case studies of Tata Motors from India and Lenovo from China to analyse their performance and competitive advantages. The results of the thesis reveal that EMNEs employ competitive advantages which underpin their expansion abroad. These advantages are mainly built by finding innovative opportunities to leverage country specific advantages. In addition, competitive advantages are obtained by accessing new knowledge in advanced markets through cross-border acquisitions. The case studies reveal, that EMNEs acquire abroad to access knowledge such as brand reputation and technologies. As a result, the international value chain structure needs to be configured. A meaningful phenomenon of global competitiveness is the increasing amount of Emerging Market Multinational Enterprises (EMNEs) that have succeeded in the con- straining institutional home markets and are now participating globally due to foreign direct investments. However, despite the increase in academic research explaining the internationalization of EMNEs, little research has been carried out to analyse the success of EMNEs.

Book Chinese Acquisitions in Developed Countries

Download or read book Chinese Acquisitions in Developed Countries written by Alessandra Vecchi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-15 with total page 111 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book assesses Chinese acquisitions in developed countries, evaluates the drivers and opportunities and, above all, explores the major operational challenges. It discusses topics such as cross-cultural issues, integration strategies, risk and resilience, the influence of emerging technologies, servitization, impacts on reshoring, corporate social responsibility, branding strategies, knowledge management, and transfer of best practices. While emerging market multinational corporations’ (EMNCs) use of mergers and acquisitions as a strategic vehicle has received considerable attention, much less is known about their post-entry activities, such as the implementation of post-acquisition and integration strategies. It can be expected that, compared with their Western counterparts, EMNCs will face radically different challenges that may undermine the success of their products, brands and marketing. Addressing these issues by means of a case study approach, this book is an ideal teaching resource for a variety of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. It also appeals to academics, researchers, and practitioners with a keen interest in manufacturing industry.
