Book The Edge Moor Water Tube Boiler

Download or read book The Edge Moor Water Tube Boiler written by Edge Moor Iron Company and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-19 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Edge Moor Water Tube Boiler: General Catalogue Very highly developed art passes through two stages of progress and has its beginnings in some new conviction; as, for example, power for industrial purposes can be generated from steam. In the earlier stage efforts are necessarily concentrated on the discovery of means to realize this conviction, and the appliances found to work are generally more or less crude. In the later stage the efforts are shifted to the development of refinements to overcome objectionable results, to improve quality and to increase quantity. The construction of the modern high-pressure boiler has followed a similar line of development. At first, efforts were concentrated principally on the development of the now typical arrangements of the heating surface together with those structural details that are necessary for safety and maintenance. In recent years, the efforts have been confined to those seemingly minor details that affect that very important result - the all-over cost of power. This book was released on 2018-02-12 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Treatise on the Working and Management of Steam Boilers and Engines Return flue and Water tube. A short de scription of each kind will be given, to enable the reader to form an idea of the respective merits of each class and their adaptability for particular kinds of work and under special Circumstances. It will also enable the reader to understand more clearly the rules laid down for working, &c. The Cylin drical, Cornish, and Lancashire kinds require setting in brickwork the Multitubular do not require any setting. There are many cases where a brickwork setting could not be used, partly on account of the limited space at command, and also in places where the extra dead weight could not be permitted multitubular boilers on the locomotive plan are the most suitable in such a case; the boiler rests upon iron cradles, the exterior being covered with felt or non-conducting composition. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Forged Steel Water-Tube Marine Boilers The great point of difference in the several types of water-tube boilers now on the market, lies in the character of the tubes used. These are either simple straight tubes, simple bent tubes or compound straight tubes, the latter being constructed with a smaller tube inside of each main tube for the purpose of promoting circulation, one end of each main tube being closed. The bent-tube type comprises a great variety of designs, the tubes being either actually bent to certain sinuous forms, or by use of elbows or return bends in connection with short sections of straight tubing. Book Catalogue of the Stirling Water Tube Safety Boiler Classic Reprint

Download or read book Catalogue of the Stirling Water Tube Safety Boiler Classic Reprint written by Stirling Consolidated Boiler Company and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-23 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Catalogue of the Stirling Water Tube Safety Boiler Accessibility.-no other water tube boiler possesses the feature of. Accessibility in so marked a degree as the Stirling. This statement applies not only to the interior surfaces, but to the exterior surfaces as well. In most of the water tube boilers, and noticeably in some of the nondescript productions that have made their appearance in recent years, the tubes arearranged in clusters, and, as a rule, are staggered; that is one tube lies opposite the space between two in the next row. In the Stirling Boiler the tubes are in rows four deep only, and all tubes are laid out in parallel rows. It is possible to pass the hand, and, indeed, the whole arm, between two rows of tubes and reach those in the fourth or last tier - a thing impossible to do in any of the prominent boilers of the hori zontal water tube type, or in any boiler in which the tubes are staggered. -this arrangement of the tubes enables the exterior surfaces to be thoroughly cleaned of soot and kin dred deposits. Such a result can be accomplished only with the greatest difficulty in the case of the staggered tubes common in many other boilers. As to the accessibility of the interior surfaces, the removal of four man-hole plates exposes to View the two ends of every tube in the boiler, and, for all practical purposes, the entire area of the interior heating surface. The boiler attendant, or cleaner, can then enter the drums, one by one, and remove the mud and other deposits, scraping the tubes from end to end if need be (using a chain or jointed scraper for that purpose), the whole operation being so simple and so easily accomplished that the most ignorant laborer, with a few instructions, can perform it acceptably. This book was released on 2018-02-20 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from On the Steam-Generating Power of Marine and Locomotive Boilers: The Assumed Value of Tube Surface Had they only examined (as should always be done) the action of the several parts of the boiler, - its several organs, so to speak, - when each could be seen and its merits appreciated, the perpetuation of the great mistakes we are daily committing would have been avoided, and the true heating surface discovered. Yet this neglect in examining the action of the several parts or organs of the boiler is not less culpable than if surgeons were to ignore dissection, or the examination of the functions of each organ of the body, and trust to Observation of the exterior human frame. Book Steam Boilers and Combustion Classic Reprint

Download or read book Steam Boilers and Combustion Classic Reprint written by John Batey and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Steam Boilers and Combustion Unfortunately most of the books published are highly technical works dealing with what has been done and not with the possibilities of future development. This Spells a great danger to initiative - which is discounted to a great extent - by placing too much reliance on the past rather than encouraging a determined attack on future possibilities. A learned professor has gone farther than most in this direction when he asserted that engineers and boiler experts had been fostering wrong ideas in Spite of the fact that extended practice qualified present laws. His declaration that the theories accepted, and their laws, were utterly wrong, is a deduction from what his own experiments revealed. A glance at the chapter headings will show the scope of the book. It will be seen that the subject is pretty fully covered from the working conditions inside of a boiler to simple talks on the various phases of boiler practice. It also covers the design of boiler furnaces for wood burning, and much other useful material. One very important feature is the portion on the safety valve based on Mr. Fred R. Low's supplement to Power on that subject. The author is indebted to Mr. Low for permission to incorporate this material in the book, and to various other contributors, whose articles have been used as a whole or in part in the work. Book Pumping Away and Other Really Cool Piping Options for Hydronic Systems

Download or read book Pumping Away and Other Really Cool Piping Options for Hydronic Systems written by Dan Holohan and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I wrote this book to describe the beautiful workings of hydronic heating systems and I tried to use words that made the subject spring to life in a visual way. It's been one of my best-selling books for years. I kept the drawings simple. Even if you've never worked with hydronics before, you'll be able to follow these drawings. The first part deals with boiler-room piping and explains how you can put the discoveries of the late, great Gil Carlson to work for you. If you pipe Gil's way, you'll save time, money and never again have to bleed radiators. Thousands of installers have reported great success by following the principles in the first part of this book. I wish I could take credit but the genius was Gil Carlson's. I just did my best to tell his story in plain English. The second half of the book takes the "Pumping Away" boiler-room piping design and applies it to a delicious menu of piping options. This is a book that you'll refer to again and again. It will save you time and money. And I guarantee that. - Dan Holohan
