Book Mud Volcanoes of the Black Sea Region and their Environmental Significance

Download or read book Mud Volcanoes of the Black Sea Region and their Environmental Significance written by Evgeny Shnyukov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-31 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This exceptionally well-illustrated book at a high scientific level describes mud volcanism as a complex, multidimensional phenomenon requiring multidisciplinary study. Mud volcanoes can be used as “cheap windows” to search for gas-hydrates and other mineral resources in the Black Sea region. Nothing similar has been published before, and as one of its unique features the book includes a vast amount of new data unavailable so far to the western reader. The book includes new data on driving forces, mechanisms, origin, geological and geomorphological features of mud volcanoes as well as new data on composition of solid, gaseous, and liquid components of erupted material. It covers a wide geographic region, and its subjects range from geological to environmental to industrial applications.

Book Sedimentary Basin Tectonics from the Black Sea and Caucasus to the Arabian Platform

Download or read book Sedimentary Basin Tectonics from the Black Sea and Caucasus to the Arabian Platform written by Marc Sosson and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2010 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This wide area of the Alpine-Himalayan belt evolved through a series of tectonic events related to the opening and closure of the Tethys Ocean. In doing so it produced the largest mountain belt of the world, which extends from the Atlantic to the Pacific oceans. The basins associated with this belt contain invaluable information related to mountain building processes and are the locus of rich hydrocarbon accumulations. However, knowledge about the geological evolution of the region is limited compared to what they offer.

Book Geological Evolution of Ocean Basins

Download or read book Geological Evolution of Ocean Basins written by Ocean Drilling Program and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 1998 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in the field of marine geoscience through the medium of deep-ocean drilling have been rapid and continue to be so. Part of this text reflects the results of findings from recent legs of the Ocean Drilling Programme. Other parts provide syntheses of the volume of drilling information collected over a period of more than 20 years, which provide a detailed picture of how oceans have evolved since the late Mesozoic. The book should be of interest to marine geologists, sedimentologists, palaeoceanographers and structural geologists.

Book Marine Geology and Palaeoceanography

Download or read book Marine Geology and Palaeoceanography written by Berggren and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-04-22 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the proceedings of Symposium on Marine Geology and Palaeoceanography of the 30th International Geological Congress at Beijing. The proceedings aim to present a view of contemporary marine geology and should be of interest to researchers in the geological science.

  • Release : 2012-09-27
  • ISBN : 9535109154
  • Pages : 282 pages

Download or read book Updates in Volcanology written by Karoly Nemeth and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-09-27 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second volume of the Updates in Volcanology and presents review style chapters as well as stand alone research works on volcanological problems that could be used as valuable resource for both researchers and graduate research students. The book presents chapters arching over a broad field of volcanology among many are considered to be dynamically developing subject areas such as volcano morphology, volcanic terrain evolution or volcaniclastic-hosted mineral resource analysis. The book also takes the reader to areas such as the Russian Far East or sedimentary basins in China which are very remote and generally less known for the global community. This book demonstrates the dynamic evolution of volcanology in the past decades.

Book Geological Processes on Deep water European Margins

Book The Handbook of Sidescan Sonar

Download or read book The Handbook of Sidescan Sonar written by Philippe Blondel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-05-17 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sidescan sonar is proving to be the preeminent technique for researchers and professionals seeking knowledge about the structure and behavior of the seafloor, but its data is often difficult to interpret due to the physics of acoustic remote sensing, and to the varied geological processes at play. This book covers the fundamentals of sidescan sonar, incorporates new understanding of marine structures, and explains how to interpret sidescan sonar imagery and bathymetry.

Book New Frontiers in Tectonic Research

Download or read book New Frontiers in Tectonic Research written by Uri Schattner and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2011-08-09 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ocean closure involves a variety of converging tectonic processes that reshape shrinking basins, their adjacent margins and the entire earth underneath. Following continental breakup, margin formation and sediment accumulation, tectonics normally relaxes and the margins become passive for millions of years. However, when final convergence is at the gate, the passive days of any ocean and its margins are over or soon will be. The fate of the Mediterranean and Persian Gulf is seemingly known beforehand, as they are nestled in the midst of Africa-Arabia plate convergence with Eurasia. Over millions of years through the Cenozoic era they progressively shriveled, leaving only a glimpse of the Tethys Ocean. Eventually, the basins will adhere to the Alpine-Himalaya orogen and dissipate. This book focuses on a unique stage in the ocean closure process, when significant convergence already induced major deformations, yet the inter-plate basins and margins still record the geological history.
