Book Beyond Manufacturing Resource Planning MRP II

Download or read book Beyond Manufacturing Resource Planning MRP II written by Andreas Drexl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The logic of Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP II) is im plemented in most commercial production planning software tools and is commonly accepted by practitioners. However, these peo ple are not satisfied with production planning and complain about long lead times, high work-in-process, and backlogging. As many researchers have pointed out, the reason for these shortcomings is inherent to the methods that are used. The research community is thus eager to find more sophisticated approaches. This book is an attempt to compile some state-of-the-art work in the field of production planning research. It includes mate rial that somehow dominates the existing MRP II concept. 15 ar ticles written by 36 authors from 10 countries cover many aspects related to MRP II. All papers went through a single-blind refere eing process before they were selected for being published in this book. When we received papers for this issue, we discovered that MRP II is a topic about which not only management scientists show interest. As the list of authors proves, industrial engineers, computer scientists, and-operations researchers from academia as well as practitioners have contributed to this book. This, we hope, makes the book of value for a broad audience. We thank all authors who submitted papers. And, we are in debted to Dr. Werner Muller from Springer for his support in this book project.

If you are operating an existing MRP system but feel that it could be doing more for you then this book can help you to identify the changes you need to make. Many businesses find themselves with similar problems. Materials being ordered too late, confusion on the shop floor and spreadsheets being used rather than the system itself. Does this sound familiar? The sections of this book take you on a journey from the style of approach in using MRP, through the fundamentals and into the effective management of your teams to get the most from your system. Sections of the book include: Finding the workarounds that your business are using, so that you can rapidly find what needs to be improved. Making the most of your demo system as a learning tool for your team. Determining the system's 'rules'; teaching the system to think like the best members of your team. Developing housekeeping tasks to keep your system working properly. The practical management aspects that need to run alongside a successful MRP / ERP system. And, how to create an action plan to put all of this information into use. Easy to follow action steps. Each section concludes with action steps to help you develop your own improvement plan. The final section of the book looks more generally at business improvement projects, with the aim of helping you to create an effective change plan for your own MRP system. Production Control doesn't have to be confusing! Giles Johnston, the author of 'Making MRP Work', is a Chartered Engineer and Business Improvement Consultant who spends a lot of his time working with his client's MRP / ERP systems. • Author : David Altemir
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2018-08-27
  • ISBN : 9781719918107
  • Pages : 109 pages

Download or read book Lean MRP written by David Altemir and published by . This book was released on 2018-08-27 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lean MRP explains how to establish ERP production scheduling that is stable and effective. The fundamental roles of the production schedule for driving shop floor work, predicting manufacturing completions, and evaluating factory capacity are examined. With effective ERP production scheduling in place, an opportunity is created to implement a Lean manufacturing pull system on the shop floor that mimics the behavior of traditional kanbans. This essentially establishes a self-regulating traffic control system that will reduce congestion and travel times for materials and products in a factory. This is not the usual "yada-yada". The concept of Lean MRP is a novel one, which holds the promise of transformational change particularly in job shop environments. In addition to attaining the on-time performance, inventory, and lead time benefits of a pull system, Lean MRP can also help improve the accuracy of forward-looking schedule projections to support the making of reliable promises to the customer. This book is for those manufacturing managers who have always strived for a Lean operation but nevertheless feel that a computerized ERP system offers a more practical and scalable solution for managing a large, complex, and/or turbulent shop floor. Manufacturers in high mix industries such as contract manufacturing, aerospace, or industrial equipment can particularly benefit from this novel and innovative approach. For them, the prospects of Lean MRP offer an exciting opportunity to positively and comprehensively transform the whole of their operation as opposed to accepting isolated islands of Lean improvement that only skirt the periphery of the scheduling, on-time performance, inventory, and lead time challenges they face.
