Book My Double Life

Download or read book My Double Life written by Joanne Rock and published by Quarter Moon Press. This book was released on 2022-07-19 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From USA Today bestselling author Joanne Rock comes a secret identity/forbidden relationship rom-com that's scorching hot, so much fun, and delivers all the feels! Being tongue-tied is nothing new for me thanks to a fluency disorder that haters call a stutter. But when a Hollywood heartthrob walks through the door of my firm and wants to work with me--a financial researcher who prefers ledgers to people--I have more reason than ever to trip over words. Thankfully, I have a healthy outlet for my frustration, and I can't leave for my pole-dancing class fast enough. Except my favorite instructor takes a fall before her debut show at a local bar, and she begs ME to take her place. I have to help her, and it'll be fine in the sexy dance number as long as I wear a mask. But then HE walks into the audience, Trey Fraser, the client who makes my mouth go dry and my whole body ache. And, unbelievably, he wants me. Too bad he can never know who is behind the mask.... My Double Life is the #1 book in the Alter Ego series, interconnected standalone steamy romance stories. *An earlier draft of this novel released as a Harlequin Blaze.

Book EBOOK Podcasting for Learning in Universities

Download or read book EBOOK Podcasting for Learning in Universities written by Gilly Salmon and published by McGraw-Hill Education (UK). This book was released on 2008-07-16 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Podcasting for Learning in Universities details several examples of research to practice for the successful use of podcasts in Higher Education, drawing from studies in the UK, Australia and South Africa. The book offers a practical transferable model and guidelines for integrating podcasts in higher education contexts. There is a dedicated website at www.podcastingforlearning.com with further links and examples. "The sheer range of ideas for using podcasts shown by the case studies, will hopefully spark off a number of ideas for ways in which practice in one subject can be re-used in another. Case studies covering reflective learning, active learning, students voices, fieldwork, distance learning and learning transferable skills, show that podcasts are flexible enough as a medium to deliver effective learning outcomes regardless of the subject." ESCalate, 2nd October 2008. To read more of the ESCalate review click here. "This book is exactly what is required for a wide range of potential readers - it is practical, yet derived from research; it is focused on student learning, yet has a technical component; it is leading-edge, yet it draws on many case studies." Professor Robin Mason, The Open University, UK "I recommend this book to all academics in higher education." Peter Bullen, Ford Professor of Automotive Engineering, University of Hertfordshire, UK "This book shows how podcasts can help transform the teaching and learning experience in Higher Education...a blueprint for podcast use." Professor David Nicol, University of Strathclyde, Scotland "The students' views are represented strongly throughout the book, which helps to make it a compelling and extremely worthwhile read." Dr Linda Creanor, Glasgow Caledonian University, Scotland "Finally, a Podcasting Bible for education!" Mazlan Hasan, Senior Instructional Designer, National Institute of Education, Singapore "The 10-step pedagogic model for developing podcasting provides an essential step-by-step guide for anyone venturing into this area for the first time." Richard Wallis, TwoFour Learning "After reading this book, I am attracted to offering another flexible learning choice. Podcasting affords active learning whether individual, cooperative or collaborative contributions, either formal or informal." Download or read book Double Life written by Alan Shayne and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gay marriage is at the forefront of America's political battles. The human story at the center of this debate is told in Double Life: A Love Story, a dual memoir by a gay male couple in a 50 plus year relationship. With high profiles in the entertainment, advertising and art communities, the authors offer a virtual timeline of how gay relationships have gained acceptance in the last half-century. At the same time, they share inside stories from film, television and media featuring the likes of Marlon Brando, Katharine Hepburn, Rock Hudson, Barbra Streisand, Laurence Olivier, Truman Capote, Bette Davis, Robert Redford, Lee Radziwill and Frances Lear. "We both grew up at a time when homosexuality was not even spoken about," the couple writes. "There were certainly no books that could help a young person understand that two people of the same sex could build a happy, productive and loving life together. When we entered our 50th year, another same sex couple told us we were 'an inspiration', so we began to feel we had the responsibility to make what we've experienced available to others. We also wanted to show people who were not gay that our life was not unlike theirs. We are all pretty much the same, so we deserve equal protection under the Constitution." Alan Shayne retired as President of Warner Brothers Television in 1986, following a career that included Broadway, playing opposite Lena Horne and spanned forty years. As a leading casting director, he worked on such films as Catch 22, All the President's Men and many others. At Warner Brothers, he shepherded such long-running television series as Alice, Night Court and The Dukes of Hazard. Norman Sunshine was a successful magazine illustrator in New York who went on to be a painter and sculptor whose works are in museums and in important collections. In the early years of his career, he was vice president, creative director of an advertising agency, and coined the phrase, "What Becomes a Legend Most?" as well as "Danskins are not just for Dancing." He interrupted his painting career when Frances Lear asked him to spearhead Lear's Magazine in the 1980s. Upon the two men meeting in New York in 1958, "We didn't want to live together," says Shayne. "We didn't have any examples of what a good love relationship between two men could be. And there was always the problem of hiding so no one would know we were gay. There was no question that if I were known to be gay, living with another man, it would make it more difficult for me to get work as an actor." As an artist, Sunshine was able to maintain a moderately out lifestyle. But when the first exhibition of his paintings in New York brought on a profile in The New York Times in 1968, he was photographed in the apartment that he admitted sharing with Shayne. At both his advertising agency and Shayne's television production company, the article was met with absolute silence. Even in the 1970s, when Sunshine won an Emmy for the graphics and title design he had created for one of Shayne's television productions, "Alan and I agreed it was not a good idea for us to be seen together at an industry event," he remembers. "Alan, after all, was one of the very few homosexuals who had such a powerful, high profile job, and who lived openly with a man. Homophobia had its adherents and some ruthless climber up the executive ladder would certainly love an opportunity to use it...'Better to be seen with a woman, ' we were advised by a very trusted friend, 'Makes everyone more comfortable.'" Happily, in 2008, the State of Massachusetts allowed the opportunity for the couple to be married on a beach in Nantucket. "We were like a long, empty, closed-up house where the windows have just been opened," writes Shayne. "The fresh air thrilled through us, and after years of only being who we were in the privacy of our homes or with a few friends, we were out in the world, under the sky, no longer pretending. We were at last free." Double Life is a trip through the entertainment world and a gay partnership in the latter half of the 20th century. As more and more same sex couples find it possible to say "I do," the book serves as an important document of how far we've come.

Book excerpt: **NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER** Her story. His story. The love story of Joey and Rory. By inviting so many into the final months of Joey’s life as she battled cancer, Joey and Rory Feek captured hearts around the world with how they handled the diagnosis; the inspiring, simple way they chose to live; and how they loved each other every step of the way. But there is far more to the story. “My life is very ordinary,” says Rory. “On the surface, it is not very special. If you looked at it, day to day, it wouldn’t seem like much. But when you look at it in a bigger context—as part of a larger story—you start to see the magic that is on the pages of the book that is my life. And the more you look, the more you see. Or, at least, I do.” In this vulnerable book, he takes us for the first time into his own challenging life story and what it was like growing up in rural America with little money and even less family stability. This is the story of a man searching for meaning and security in a world that offered neither. And it’s the story of a man who finally gives it all to a power higher than himself and soon meets a young woman who will change his heart forever. In This Life I Live, Rory Feek helps us not only to connect more fully to his and Joey’s story but also to our own journeys. He shows what can happen when we are fully open in life’s key moments, whether when meeting our life companion or tackling an unexpected tragedy. He also gives never-before-revealed details on their life together and what he calls “the long goodbye,” the blessing of being able to know that life is going to end and taking advantage of it. Rory shows how we are all actually there already and how we can learn to live that way every day. A gifted man from nowhere and everywhere in search of something to believe in. A young woman from the Midwest with an angelic voice and deep roots that just needed a place to be planted. This is their story. Two hearts that found each other and touched millions of other hearts along the way.

Book Scrolling Forward Second Edition

Download or read book Scrolling Forward Second Edition written by David M. Levy and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-01-05 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fascinating, insightful, and wonderfully written exploration of the document. Like Henry Petroski’s The Pencil, David Levy’s Scrolling Forward takes a common, everyday object, the document, and illuminates what it reveals about us, both in the past and in the digital age. We are surrounded daily by documents of all kinds—letters and credit card receipts, business memos and books, television images and web pages—yet we rarely stop to reflect on their significance. Now, in this period of digital transition, our written forms as well as our reading and writing habits are being disturbed and transformed by new technologies and practices. An expert on information and written forms, and a former researcher for the document pioneer Xerox, Levy masterfully navigates these concerns, offering reassurance while sharing his own excitement about many of the new kinds of emerging documents. He demonstrates how today’s technologies, particularly the personal computer and the World Wide Web, are having analogous effects to past inventions—such as paper, the printing press, writing implements, and typewriters—in shaping how we use documents and the forms those documents take. Scrolling Forward lets us see the continuity between the written forms of today and those of the past. Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in history--books about World War II, the Third Reich, Hitler and his henchmen, the JFK assassination, conspiracies, the American Civil War, the American Revolution, gladiators, Vikings, ancient Rome, medieval times, the old West, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.

Book High Achiever

Download or read book High Achiever written by Tiffany Jenkins and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2019-06-18 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • An up-close portrait of the mind of an addict and a life unraveled by narcotics—a memoir of captivating urgency and surprising humor that puts a human face on the opioid crisis. “Raw, brutal, and shocking. Move over, Orange Is the New Black.”—Amy Dresner, author of My Fair Junkie When word got out that Tiffany Jenkins was withdrawing from opiates on the floor of a jail cell, people in her town were shocked. Not because of the twenty felonies she’d committed, or the nature of her crimes, or even that she’d been captain of the high school cheerleading squad just a few years earlier, but because her boyfriend was a Deputy Sherriff, and his friends—their friends—were the ones who’d arrested her. A raw and twisty page-turning memoir that reads like fiction, High Achiever spans Tiffany’s life as an active opioid addict, her 120 days in a Florida jail where every officer despised what she’d done to their brother in blue, and her eventual recovery. With heart-racing urgency and unflinching honesty, Jenkins takes you inside the grips of addiction and the desperate decisions it breeds. She is a born storyteller who lived an incredible story, from blackmail by an ex-boyfriend to a soul-shattering deal with a drug dealer, and her telling brims with suspense and unexpected wit. But the true surprise is her path to recovery. Tiffany breaks through the stigma and silence to offer hope and inspiration to anyone battling the disease—whether it’s a loved one or themselves.
