Book Rainbow Children r Magical Moving Stories

Download or read book Rainbow Children r Magical Moving Stories written by Linda Ananda and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine having the ability to flow through life's challenges with ease, a clear mind, connection with others and nature, a soft strength that achieves much for the good of all, a channel of pure innate wisdom, emotional intelligence, and a sense of unlimited love. Now imagine that you were given the chance to develop these qualities as a child when you were most receptive and when they could guide your whole life especially the tumultuous times of teens and early adulthood. Imagine that, not only were you were given this gift when you most needed it, but that it was given to you in a beautiful rainbow of stories that you danced, laughed and sang along to with your friends and an attentive, connected parent or teacher. This is the gift of the rainbow children(r) stories that you are holding in your hand ... to whom will you give this precious gift? "This is a unique work, introducing qualities of acceptance and adaptability that can elude the best of us in challenging times. How wonderful to learn these strengths through activity, stories and fun as a child. Linda's books are a gem amongst the chaos, offering children the opportunity to recognise their own feelings and to see ways in which to deal with them towards the most positive outcome. Rich are the possibilities of a person whose awareness is awakened to these philosophies in childhood, simple and obvious as they are in hindsight, so many of us are not able to navigate the complexities of our feelings with ease. These books could make that difference." -Paula Mayura, founder of the Mayura School of Yoga "rainbow children(r) is an inspired and lovely project which, as an ex-teacher of infants, I can sense will have a great interest for and influence on children in need of a spiritual input and support." -Ruth White, bestselling author of Working with Your Chakra

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone knows the thrill of being transported by a film, but what is it that makes movie watching such a compelling emotional experience? In Moving Viewers, Carl Plantinga explores this question and the implications of its answer for aesthetics, the psychology of spectatorship, and the place of movies in culture. Through an in-depth discussion of mainstream Hollywood films, Plantinga investigates what he terms "the paradox of negative emotion" and the function of mainstream narratives as ritualistic fantasies. He describes the sensual nature of the movies and shows how film emotions are often elicited for rhetorical purposes. He uses cognitive science and philosophical aesthetics to demonstrate why cinema may deliver a similar emotional charge for diverse audiences.

Book Wilfred Bion Thinking and Emotional Experience with Moving Images

Download or read book Wilfred Bion Thinking and Emotional Experience with Moving Images written by Kelli Fuery and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-06-14 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wilfred Bion’s theories of dreaming, of the analytic situation, of reality and everyday life, and even of the contact between the body and the mind offer very different, and highly fruitful, perspectives on lived experience. Yet very little of his work has entered the field of visual culture, especially film and media studies. Kelli Fuery offers an engaging overview of Bion’s most significant contribution to psychoanalysis- his theory of thinking- and demonstrates its relevance for why we watch moving images. Bion’s theory of thinking is presented as an alternative model for the examination of how we experience moving images and how they work as tools which we use to help us ‘think’ emotional experience. ‘Being Embedded’ is a term used to identify and acknowledge the link between thinking and emotional experience within the lived reception of cinema. It is a concept that everyone can speak to as already knowing, already having felt it - being embedded is at the core of lived and thinking experience. This book offers a return to psychoanalytic theory within moving image studies, contributing to the recent works that have explored object relations psychoanalysis within visual culture (specifically the writings of Klein and Winnicott), but differs in its reference and examination of previously overlooked, but highly pivotal, thinkers such as Bion, Bollas and Ogden. A theorization of thinking as an affective structure within moving image experience provides a fresh avenue for psychoanalytic theory within visual culture. Wilfred Bion, Thinking, and Emotional Experience with Moving Images will appeal to psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic psychotherapists, as well as scholars and students of film and media studies, cultural studies and cultural sociology and anthropology, visual culture, media theory, philosophy, and psychosocial studies.

The book centers on “moving places”: places with locations that are not fixed but relative. Locations appearing to be reasonably stable, such as home and homeland, are in fact always subject to practices, imaginaries, and politics of movement. Bringing together original ethnographic contributions with a clear theoretical focus, this volume spans the fields of anthropology, human geography, migration, and border studies, and serves as teaching material in related programs.

Book Moving Up Without Losing Your Way

Download or read book Moving Up Without Losing Your Way written by Jennifer M. Morton and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-20 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Upward mobility through the path of higher education has been an article of faith for generations of working-class, low-income, and immigrant college students. While we know this path usually entails financial sacrifices and hard work, very little attention has been paid to the deep personal compromises such students have to make as they enter worlds vastly different from their own. Measuring the true cost of higher education for those from disadvantaged backgrounds, Moving Up without Losing Your Way looks at the ethical dilemmas of upward mobility--the broken ties with family and friends, the severed connections with former communities, and the loss of identity--faced by students as they strive to earn a successful place in society"--Dust jacket.
