Book excerpt: In Moving Beyond Quadrant A, Bernadette Lambert skillfully elucidates the Rigor/Relevance Framework(R) and corresponding Rigor, Relevance, and Engagement Rubrics in terms you've likely not considered, but well know. By thinking of these cornerstones of effective instruction as familiar concepts you use regularly in your day-to-day life, you will find yourself effortlessly modeling rigor and relevance for your students. You will naturally begin to invite them to be active, engaged agents in their education. All it takes is a simple perspective shift, one that moves you beyond Quad A of the Framework and into a Quad D attitude, which Lambert guides you through with interest and ease. Moving Beyond Quadrant A is no tedious academic text. Lambert weaves in history, cultural references, academic research, and observations from her decades as a teacher and coach in the classroom. She takes care to ensure you have fun as you become a student of the Rigor/Relevance Framework and Rubrics, providing strategic instructional tactics to boot. For those seeking to gain control of their classrooms, not simply collect yet more Band-Aid techniques to cover over the same old problems, Lambert reminds you that all you have to do is get started. You will find the motivation to do just that in Lambert's inspiring words.

Book Beyond Strategy

Download or read book Beyond Strategy written by Michael Moesgaard Andersen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why is it that some companies turn out to be more successful when doing the opposite of what is prescribed in many of the current books on management and strategy? Interestingly, many of the companies depicted as very successful companies in the standard literature end up not faring well over time - probably because they somehow end up in a dangerous autopilot mode. What this suggests is that the conventional literature cookbook isn’t telling us the whole story. Even if companies have temporarily developed from an ugly duckling to a white swan, the popular recipes for success may be clipping such companies’ wings. Conversely, companies adhering to disruptive business models are seen to be more agile and to possess a higher degree of actionability. Such next generation companies are labeled black swans. They thrive because they are bold and embrace the great unknowns of tomorrow with open minds and eyes. At the same time, they are able to take advantage of incumbents’ fears, risk-aversion and blindness to what’s coming. Beyond Strategy delves into the inner workings of such black swans as Apple, Aravind, Emirates, Huawei, Natura, Ryanair and Tata and addresses the rise and fall of Nokia. The authors provide explosive evidence of black swan companies working against the norms to enter unchartered waters, determined not to adhere to the best practice of others, but rather to create a genuine next generation practice. Next generation companies and their underlying philosophies are here to stay – are you?

Book The Place of Information Technology in Management and Business Education

Download or read book The Place of Information Technology in Management and Business Education written by Ben-Zion Barta and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The power of modern information systems and information technology (lSIIT) offers new opportunities to rethink, at the broadest levels, existing business strategies, approaches and practices. Over the past decade, IT has opened up new business opportunities, led to the development of new strategic IS and challenged all managers and users of ISIIT to devise new ways to make better use of information. Yet this era which began with much confidence and optimism is now suffering under a legacy of systems that are increasingly failing to meet business needs, and lasting fixes are proving costly and difficult to implement. General management is experiencing a crisis of confidence in their IS functions and in the chiefinformation systems officers who lead them (Earl and Feeney, 1994:11). The concern for chief executive officers is that they are confronting a situation that is seemingly out of control. They are asking, 'What is the best way to rein in these problems and effectively assess IS performance? Further, how can we be certain that IS is adequately adding value to the organisational bottom line?' On the other hand, IS executives and professionals who are responsible for creating, managing and maintaining the organisation's systems are worried about the preparedness of general managers to cope with the growth in new technologies and systems. They see IT having a polarising effect on general managers; it either bedazzles or frightens them (Davenport, 1994: 119).

Book A Chronicle of Permutation Statistical Methods

Download or read book A Chronicle of Permutation Statistical Methods written by Kenneth J. Berry and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-04-11 with total page 535 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this book is on the birth and historical development of permutation statistical methods from the early 1920s to the near present. Beginning with the seminal contributions of R.A. Fisher, E.J.G. Pitman, and others in the 1920s and 1930s, permutation statistical methods were initially introduced to validate the assumptions of classical statistical methods. Permutation methods have advantages over classical methods in that they are optimal for small data sets and non-random samples, are data-dependent, and are free of distributional assumptions. Permutation probability values may be exact, or estimated via moment- or resampling-approximation procedures. Because permutation methods are inherently computationally-intensive, the evolution of computers and computing technology that made modern permutation methods possible accompanies the historical narrative. Permutation analogs of many well-known statistical tests are presented in a historical context, including multiple correlation and regression, analysis of variance, contingency table analysis, and measures of association and agreement. A non-mathematical approach makes the text accessible to readers of all levels.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This treatise will reveal subtle secrets regarding subtle-elements, which pertain to breathing system (Praanaayaama), human speech (Mantras) and the external environment (Vaastu-Science). The subtle-elements comprise subtle phenomena and the related spiritual, cosmic, semi-cosmic and semi-gross objects, processes and systems. Therefore, this spiritual knowledge will ensure healthy ecology; high spiritual elevation and high quality of life on the earth (i.e. sound health, prosperity and happiness). The Indian cosmic philosophy, which pertains to internal and external environments, is termed as Darshana-Shaastra. This term reveals a secret regarding the Rishis of the Vedic era that they used to envision subtle phenomena through their cosmic powers. Subsequently, they developed applicable rules regarding Praanaayaama, Sanskrit grammar, Mantras and Vaastu-Science. However, the spiritual-knowledge regarding the subtle elements was lost along with them. The author has ‘rediscovered the lost divine-knowledge’ through his cosmic powers and the clarifications from his spiritual guides. They are astral beings now, because they were renowned Rishis of the Vedic era. One of them assumed ‘human-form’ to bless him with cosmic powers. This book is based on the extrasensory perceptions of the author. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Afrosonic Life explores the role sonic innovations in the African diaspora play in articulating methodologies for living the afterlife of slavery. Developing and extending debates on Afrosonic cultures, the book attends to the ways in which the acts of technological subversion, experimentation and production complement and interrupt the intellectual project of modernity. Music making processes such as dub, turntablism, hip-hop dj techniques and the remix, innovate methods of expressing subjecthoods beyond the dominant language of Western “Man” and the market. These sonic innovations utilize sound as a methodology to institute a rehumanizing subjectivity in which sound dislodges the hierarchical ordering of racial schemas. Afrosonic Life is invested in excavating and elaborating the nuanced and novel ways of music making and sound creation found in the African diaspora.

Book excerpt: Mergers and acquisitions are happening in record numbers, with billions of dollars changing hands and major corporate deals making headlines every day. This revolutionary guide--written by two top consultants who've worked with some of the biggest companies in the world--goes beyond other books on the subject by giving you a complete, systematic “framework” of hands-on strategies for every step of the process. No matter which side of the acquisition you're on, what stage of the game you're at, or whatever level of management you're in, you will learn how to create new value for yourself, recognize new opportunities for your team--and inspire unprecedented levels of performance for your organization. If you've got “the urge to merge” and the need to succeed, Beyond the Deal offers a wealth of ready-to-use tools and techniques, including: 6 essential keys to a smooth integration 4 steps to making a “quantum leap” in performance 3 common mistakes that lessen value 3 surefire ways to get your team on board Dozens of case examples, quizzes, checklists, and more In addition to step-by-step planning strategies, the book shows you how to assess a company's full potential and--more specifically--how to motivate full-time workers as they face new challenges, take on new responsibilities, and work with new people. You'll also find crucial advice on corporate branding, customer service, company leadership, and knowledge management. And you'll be surprised to discover just how do-able--and profitable--mergers and acquisitions can be.
