Book Automotive Air Pollution

Download or read book Automotive Air Pollution written by and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1990 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Automotive air pollution will intensify with increasing urbanization and the rapid pace of motorization in developing countries. Without effective measures to curb air pollution, some 300-400 million city dwellers in developing countries will become exposed to unhealthy and dangerous levels of air pollution by the end of the century. Administratively simple policies that encourage clean fuels and better traffic management are the most promising approach to controlling vehicle pollutant emissions in developing countries.

Book Mobile source Air Toxics

    Book Details:
  • Author : Health Effects Institute. Air Toxics Review Panel
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2007
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 244 pages

Download or read book Mobile source Air Toxics written by Health Effects Institute. Air Toxics Review Panel and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Special Report 16 summarizes the health effects of exposure to the 21 Mobile-Source Air Toxics (MSATs) defined by the 2001 EPA mobile-source rulemaking and critically analyzes the literature for a subset of seven MSATs (acetaldehyde, acrolein, benzene, 1,3-butadiene, formaldehyde, naphthalene, and polycyclic organic matter*). The report also assesses and summarizes research gaps and unresolved questions, as understood in the context of the current regulatory agenda. The Report focuses on MSATs for which mobile sources are a sizable source of human exposure and for which existing data suggest that health effects might be observed at concentrations approaching those found in ambient air. For each MSAT, the following questions are addressed: (1) To what extent are mobile sources a significant source of exposure to this MSAT? (2) Does this MSAT affect human health? (3) Does this MSAT affect human health at environmental conditions? Special Report 16 describes a review performed by a Special Panel with expertise in exposure assessment, toxicology, clinical medicine, and epidemiology. The Panel reviewed the peer-reviewed literature on MSATs, reached key conclusions, and made recommendations for future research. The completed report was reviewed by experts in a variety of fields and amended to reflect the useful comments and critiques.

Book Air Pollution the Automobile and Public Health

Download or read book Air Pollution the Automobile and Public Health written by Sponsored by The Health Effects Institute and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 703 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The combination of scientific and institutional integrity represented by this book is unusual. It should be a model for future endeavors to help quantify environmental risk as a basis for good decisionmaking." â€"William D. Ruckelshaus, from the foreword. This volume, prepared under the auspices of the Health Effects Institute, an independent research organization created and funded jointly by the Environmental Protection Agency and the automobile industry, brings together experts on atmospheric exposure and on the biological effects of toxic substances to examine what is knownâ€"and not knownâ€"about the human health risks of automotive emissions.

Book Traffic Related Air Pollution and Internal Combustion Engines

Download or read book Traffic Related Air Pollution and Internal Combustion Engines written by Sergey Demidov and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atmospheric pollution has been a major problem in human technological development and motor vehicles are one of the major sources of particulate matter pollution. This book investigates current models designed to predict air pollutant emissions and fuel consumption for road traffic and presents the outputs of statistical models developed to derive emission factors. Information on the use of Geographic Information Systems and traffic area air pollution monitoring stations is presented in order to comprehend the variations of traffic-related air pollution. Furthermore, this book reports the pros and cons of hydrogen-fuelled internal combustion engines, a study of the new technology to produce syngas from methane with a compression ignition engine. An overview of the characteristics of the factors influencing the thermal efficiency of spark ignition engines fuelled with hydrogen is given as well.

Book Air Quality Modeling Technical Support Document

Download or read book Air Quality Modeling Technical Support Document written by U.s. Environment Protection Agency and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-06-24 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document describes the air quality modeling performed by EPA in support of the Tier 3 motor vehicle emission and fuel standards. A national scale air quality modeling analysis was performed to estimate the impact of the Tier 3 standards on future year annual and 24-hour PM2.5 concentrations, daily maximum 8-hour ozone concentrations, annual nitrogen dioxide concentrations, annual nitrogen and sulfur deposition levels, annual ethanol and select annual and seasonal air toxic concentrations (formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, benzene, 1,3-butadiene, acrolein and naphthalene) as well as visibility impairment. To model the air quality benefits of this rule we used the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) model.1 CMAQ simulates the numerous physical and chemical processes involved in the formation, transport, and destruction of ozone, particulate matter and air toxics. In addition to the CMAQ model, the modeling platform includes the emissions, meteorology, and initial and boundary condition data which are inputs to this model.
