Book Motivation From Animal Kingdom

Download or read book Motivation From Animal Kingdom written by Parveen Sharma and published by . This book was released on 2016-03-07 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes that not only did God create all men and women equally, he created all creatures equally. Even we are spiritually linked to all of God's creations, and carry each other's traits in varying measures. Since animals, especially mammals are the closest physiologically to humans, their influence is the most pronounced after that of humans themselves. When you go through the contents of the book, you will recognise the traits possessed by many of your kin, relatives and friends and possibly yourself. The purpose behind the book is to enlighten and entertain, while at the same time make us sensitive to the fact that life is not exclusive to human beings, and that we possibly share a lot in common with life forms we consider inferior.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of animal motivation deals with how and why animals engage in particular activities: what mechanisms inside the animal generate behaviour, how stimuli from the external environment in fluence these mechanisms, and how this behaviour is beneficial to the animal. The topic is thus central both to academic studies in psychology and zoology and to applied matters in domestic species. Motivation has not been an area of great emphasis in the past 10-15 years but there is now a growing realization that it should receive greater attention. Drawing on concepts and observations from a number of areas, this book provides an overview of the motiva tional processes which determine the choices, timing, and sequencing which are characteristic of animal behaviour. Data and theory from ethology, psychology, and evolutionary biology are synthesized into a contemporary framework for analysing such central features of behaviour as persistence in activities and goal orientation. Principles of motivational analysis are discussed and illustrated with specific case studies. The successive chapters deal with ethological, phy siological, and ecological approaches involving experimental work on a diversity of vertebrate and invertebrate species. Ethological topics include the interaction of external stimuli and internal states, mechanisms of choice, quantitative models of motivation, conflict between tendencies for different activities, and behavioural homeos tasis. The review of physiological research focuses on hunger, the activating roles of nerves and hormones, and the examination of animals with small nervous systems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Motivation refers to the psychological processes that drive and direct our behavior towards achieving certain goals or fulfilling specific needs. It is the force that energizes, sustains, and guides our actions, thoughts, and emotions. Motivation can arise from various sources, including internal factors like personal values, interests, and aspirations, as well as external factors like rewards, recognition, and social pressure. It plays a crucial role in influencing our decisions, shaping our attitudes, and determining the level of effort we invest in tasks. Different theories of motivation, such as Maslow's hierarchy of needs, expectancy theory, and self-determination theory, provide insights into understanding the complexities of human motivation and how it impacts behavior.

Book Basic Motivation and Human Behaviour

Download or read book Basic Motivation and Human Behaviour written by Velibor Bobo Kovac and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-01 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how and why humans are motivated to act in the ways that they do. The chapters examine the origins of a given action rather than their superficial appearance, which can often be misleading. Kovac integrates the existing knowledge of the field of motivation into a greater theoretical framework by adopting both analytical and holistic perspectives. This theoretical framework suggests that all human behaviour evolves from the three fundamental underlying tendencies connected to the concepts of control, affiliation and self-expression that are further modified by the mechanism of balanced dual tension. These tendencies are conceptualised as systems of interrelated psychological needs that guide and govern a variety of human actions. As such, this book should be useful to upper-level students and researchers of cognitive and social psychology and all scholars interested in human motivation.

Book Handbook of Approach and Avoidance Motivation

Download or read book Handbook of Approach and Avoidance Motivation written by Andrew J. Elliot and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-05-13 with total page 683 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of the many conceptual distinctions present in psychology today, the approach-avoidance distinction stands out as one of, if not the, most fundamental and basic. The distinction between approach and avoidance motivation has a venerable history, not only within but beyond scientific psychology, and the deep utility of this distinction is clearly evident across theoretical traditions, disciplines, and content areas. This volume is designed to illustrate and highlight the central importance of this distinction, to serve as a one-stop resource for scholars working in this area, and to facilitate integration among researchers and theorists with an explicit or implicit interest in approach and avoidance motivation. The main body of this volume is organized according to seven broad sections that represent core areas of interest in the study of approach and avoidance motivation, including neurophysiology and neurobiology, and evaluative processes. Each section contains a minimum of four chapters that cover a specific aspect of approach and avoidance motivation. The broad applicability of the approach-avoidance distinction makes this Handbook an essential resource for researchers, theorists, and students of social psychology and related disciplines.

Book Motivation and Its Regulation

Download or read book Motivation and Its Regulation written by Joseph P. Forgas and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-04-03 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is motivation that drives all our daily endeavors, and it is motivation, or the lack of it, that accounts for most of our successes and failures. Motivation, however, needs to be carefully controlled and regulated to be effective. This book surveys the most recent psychological research on how motivational processes are regulated in daily life to achieve desired outcomes. Contributors are all leading international investigators, and they explore such exciting questions as: What is the relationship between motivation and self-control? What is the role of affect and cognition in regulating motivation? How do conscious and unconscious motivational processes interact? What role do physiological processes play in controlling motivation? How can we regulate aggressive impulses? How do affective states control motivation? Can motivation distort perception and attention? What are the social, cultural and interpersonal effects of motivational control? Understanding human motivation is not only of theoretical interest, but is also fundamental to applied fields such as clinical, counseling, educational, organizational, marketing and industrial psychology. The book is also suitable as an advanced textbook in courses in motivational sciences, and is recommended to students, teachers, researchers and applied professionals as well as laypersons interested in the psychology of human motivation and self-control.

Book Understanding Motivation and Emotion

Download or read book Understanding Motivation and Emotion written by Johnmarshall Reeve and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-11-03 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding Motivation and Emotion, 6th Edition helps readers understand motivation; where it comes from, how and why it changes over time, and how motivation can be increased. The book also shows how to apply the principles of motivation in applied settings, such as in schools, in the workplace, on the athletic field, in counseling, and in one's own personal life. Reeve's engaging writing captures the excitement of recent advances in the field to show the reader what contemporary motivation psychologists are excited about. He also uses effective examples and explains how motivation study can be applied to readers' daily lives. By combining a strong theoretical foundation with current research and practical applications, Reeve provides readers with a valuable tool for understanding why people do what they do and why people feel what they feel.

Book The Physiological Mechanisms of Motivation

Download or read book The Physiological Mechanisms of Motivation written by D.W. Pfaff and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To scientists engaged in research on the cellular mechanisms in the mammalian brain, concepts of "motivation" seem to be a logical neces sity, even if they are not fashionable. Immersed in the detailed, time consuming research required to deal with mammalian nerve cells, we usually pay scant attention to the more global brain -behavior questions that have arisen from decades of biological and psychological studies. We felt it was time to confront these issues-namely, how far has neuro biological investigation come in uncovering mechanisms by which moti vational signals influence behavior? At Rockefeller University, we have recently held a course on this subject. We restricted our treatment to those motivational systems most tractable to physiological approaches, and invited scientists skilled in both behavioral issues and physiological techniques to participate. This volume results from that course. The deans and administration at Rockefeller University provided much help in planning the course, and the staff of Springer-Verlag assisted in planning the book. Gabriele Zummer helped organize both the course and the processing of book chapters. They all deserve our thanks. December 1981 Donald W. Book Motivation Emotions and Leadership

Download or read book Motivation Emotions and Leadership written by Richard L. Fulton and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 1998-10-28 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leadership is motivation and motivation is leadership, say the authors of this important and unique study. The two elements are inseparable, but until now no one has actually conceptualized motivation in a useful way to demonstrate and analyze the connection between it and leadership. The key for leaders is dealing with the emotions that underlie and activate motivation. Maddock and Fulton provide a highly successful, proven, and replicable approach not only to motivate people, but also to train them to lead others. The authors develop an 11 level structure of human motivation that defines and describes motivation in simple, graphic, all-inclusive language. They then show how leaders can use this motivational hierarchy to solve complex problems in the workplace. The result is a blueprint to help executives in all types of organizations manage more effectively, and as they do so, to motivate and truly lead the people who depend on them for guidance and direction. Maddock and Fulton offer several scenarios to show how their ideas work in practice. In the vertical fix they demonstrate how motives that get out of synch with each other can be re-aligned, eliminating the chaos that would otherwise occur. In the lateral fix they show how a person who may be functioning at the extreme edge of motivation can be moved back toward the center, a place where the person's effect on others is most and best felt. Well documented throughout, their book will be important reading for training and development professionals, specialists in organizational behavior, and executives at all levels in public and private sectors.

Download or read book Motivation and Desire written by William J. Freed and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of our time is spent eating and drinking and some is spent on matters regarding reproduction. Some of us seek fame or recognition while others seek satisfaction internally, with little need for recognition. Some people study for success in a profession, while others might study rocks, birds, or French literature for no apparent reason other than to know about it. Why are we motivated to engage in so many apparently unrelated activities? This book places our various activities into categories, thus providing a framework for understanding how everything that we do fits together and is based on brain mechanisms. Disturbances in motivation play important roles in autism, depression, Parkinson's disease, and addiction. Understanding the motivational aspects of these disorders can help to inform our approach to these conditions. This book may be of value for students in psychology, counseling, management, and anyone who is interested in understanding our daily behavior.
