Gerardo Marti shows us how this unusual church has achieved multiethnicity, not by targeting specific groups, but by providing multiple havens of inclusion that play down ethnic differences. He reveals a congregation aiming to reconstruct evangelical theology, personal identity, member involvement, and church governance to create an institution with greater relevance to the social reality of a new generation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Being a mission-driven leader is hard. Being a mission-driven leader who knows how to navigate the emotions of loss and grief connected to leadership is harder still. It takes a vulnerable leader to lead well—one who has faced into their own losses and can let those losses equip their character for God’s greater plans. Not all leaders are willing. Not all leaders are able. Yet, according to David Woolverton, leaders’ vulnerability to the emotional processes of grief is essential for the overall health of the organizations they lead and for the well-being—and discipleship—of those under their direction. Grief, he says, is best viewed as a mosaic, where each of our significant losses forms a constellation of tiles that, when seen together over time, helps tell a story of God’s redemptive love, grace, and mission—a story desperately needed within today’s post-pandemic angst. Using Elisabeth Kübler-Ross’s five stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance) as a guide, along with five biblical prophet “mentors,” Woolverton presents five strategies to equip pastors and leaders in negotiating with their losses to attain organizational resilience, sustainability, and vibrancy.

Book The Woman I Am

    Book Details:
  • Author : Melody Maxwell
  • Publisher : University of Alabama Press
  • Release : 2014-07-09
  • ISBN : 0817318321
  • Pages : 280 pages

Download or read book The Woman I Am written by Melody Maxwell and published by University of Alabama Press. This book was released on 2014-07-09 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: She examines magazines published by Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU), an auxiliary to the SBC: Our Mission Fields (1906–1914), Royal Service (1914–1995), Contempo (1970–1995), and Missions Mosaic (1995–2006). In them, she traces how WMU writers and editors perceived, constructed, and expanded the lives of southern women. Showing ingenuity and resiliency, these writers and editors continually, though not always consciously, reshaped their ideal of Christian womanhood to better fit the new paths open to women in American culture and Southern Baptist life. Maxwell’s work demonstrates that Southern Baptists have transformed their views on biblically sanctioned roles for women over a relatively short historical period. How Southern Baptist women perceive women’s roles in their churches, homes, and the wider world is of central importance to readers interested in religion, society, and gender in the United States.

Book Leadership Mosaic

    Book Details:
  • Author : Daniel Montgomery
  • Publisher : Crossway
  • Release : 2016-10-13
  • ISBN : 1433552582
  • Pages : 177 pages

Download or read book Leadership Mosaic written by Daniel Montgomery and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2016-10-13 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There's a leadership crisis in the church. Every leadership model claims to have all the answers to the challenges of leadership. Each perspective emphasizes certain qualities, and we search desperately for answers in the absence of clear direction. But there’s no simple leadership formula that meets every need we have in life and ministry. Challenging the conventional wisdom about what makes for a good leader, Daniel Montgomery calls us to a countercultural perspective on leadership rooted in our Creator. He presents a new framework for leadership, not just a beckoning to further pragmatism, relentless productivity, or a reactionary cultural fad. He helps us see leadership as a mosaic of five characteristics—conviction, creativity, courage, collaboration, and contemplation—reflective of the very image of the triune God. Armed with this perspective, we will be able to see, strive after, and celebrate the great and complex vision of leadership God has called us to—for the flourishing of our homes, churches, and workplaces.

Book History of the Mosaic Templars of America

Download or read book History of the Mosaic Templars of America written by Aldridge Edward Bush and published by University of Arkansas Press. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a reprint of classic history of an important African American organization. Originally published in 1924 and long out of print, this book tells the story of the Mosaic Templars of America (MTA), a famous black fraternal organization that was founded by two former slaves in Little Rock, Arkansas, in the late-nineteenth century. The organization originally provided illness, death, and burial insurance during an era of segregation when few basic services were available to black people. By 1900, Mosaic Templars' industries grew to include an insurance company, a building and loan association, a publishing company, a business college, a nursing school, and a hospital.By 1905, it had a number of lodges across the state with thousands of members. Its headquarters were housed in a handsome new building that opened in 1913; Booker T. Washington delivered the dedication speech. In the 1920s, they claimed chapters in twenty-six states and six foreign countries, making it one of the largest black organizations in the world. However, in the 1930s the MTA began to feel the effects of the Great Depression and eventually ceased operations. However, a single chapter remains, in Barbados. The headquarters building burned down in 2005, and this book is being published to coincide with the grand opening this fall of a completely rebuilt structure that will house the new Mosaic Templars Cultural Center.

Book excerpt: "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed," Jesus says in the Gospel of Matthew, "nothing will be impossible for you." That sounds good, but does it work in a world where seeds are genetically altered by an impatient few and hard to come by for countless others? In a world where the gulf between the very rich and the profoundly poor is constantly growing, can a mustard-seed faith make any difference? And can such a little bit of faith be sustained in a world whose future is so uncertain on so many fronts? Tom Sine says yes, and he has the audacity to try to prove it in his latest book. In The New Conspirators Tom surveys the landscape of creative Christianity, where streams of renewal are flowing freely from diverse sources: The emerging church Contemporary monastic movements The missional church The mosaic movement Individuals and communities of faith are coalescing in, and drawing energy from, these four streams to retrofit the church as it leads, serves and gives witness to the kingdom of God in the turbulent times facing us. Read the book and you'll want to-and be prepared to-join God's conspiracy to create a better future.
