But the ‘wicked marquis’ is unlike anyone Maggie has ever encountered, and as she joins him in his quest, they discover an irresistible, blazing mutual attraction. Can they survive what is to come with their love intact? Reviews for Sara Mackenzie's Immortal Warriors series "5 stars - PASSIONS OF THE GHOST is one of the most magical paranormals I have read this year. Ms. Mackenzie pens an alluring tale that drew this reader in from the very first page. I did not put this charming tale down until the last word was read. I laughed at the witty bantering and cried when two lovely people find a rare love that makes them complete. Amy is a lost soul looking to get away from the life she has led. Reynald is another lost soul trying to make his past mistakes right again. I adore both of these very unusual characters. Making the story even more complete are the secondary characters that are vibrant and sassy. Ms. Mackenzie pens a plot that is thick and spell-binding. If you are looking for a tale that will leave you wholly satisfied and all warm and fuzzy inside, then I highly recommend PASSIONS OF THE GHOST. I will be heading to the bookstore to gobble up all of Ms. Mackenzies books." RomanceJunkies 2006 "4 Stars - Mackenzie's immortal warriors are once again trying to rectify an old wrong. This new chapter adds even more mystical elements to the series as a notorious highwayman tried to change his family's tragic history. Mackenzie (aka author Sara Bennett) demonstates a rare gift for blending paranormal elements, including time travel, to create stories that are emotionally maultifaceted as well as action packed. This is one multitalented author!" Romantic Times 2006 "5 stars - The second in the Immortal Warriors series, Secrets of the Highwayman by newcomer paranormal author, Sara Mackenzie, is just as fast paced, and spellbinding as its predecessor, Return of the Highlander. You will be as swept away in the adventure of Nathaniel Raven and his pursuit of the monstrous Pengorren as the vibrant Melanie is! Very imaginative, Secrets of the Highwayman has so many intricate plot twists you won't be able to put it down! I can't wait for the next in the series, Passions of the Ghost, to hit the bookshelves!" - A Romance Review 2006

Book The Trojan War and Its Aftermath Four Epic Poems Retold

This book was released on 2024-04-01 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Trojan War and Its Aftermath: Four Epic Poems Retold" by David Bruce is a captivating retelling of the timeless tales surrounding the legendary conflict of the Trojan War and its far-reaching consequences. Drawing from ancient sources such as Homer's "Iliad" and "Odyssey," as well as other classical works, Bruce weaves together a rich tapestry of myths, heroes, and gods to create a compelling narrative that brings the ancient world to life. Through vivid prose and meticulous attention to detail, Bruce guides readers through the epic events of the Trojan War, from the famed duel between Achilles and Hector to the cunning stratagems of Odysseus and the tragic fall of Troy. Along the way, he introduces readers to a host of unforgettable characters, from the valorous warriors to the cunning goddesses, each with their own motivations and desires. But Bruce's narrative doesn't end with the fall of Troy; instead, he explores the aftermath of the war and its impact on the heroes and heroines who survived. From the trials of Odysseus as he struggles to find his way home to the tragic fate of the Trojan women, Bruce delves deep into the human drama and emotional resonance of these timeless stories, revealing the enduring power of myth to illuminate the human condition.

Book From the Iliad to the Odyssey A Retelling in Prose of Quintus of Smyrna s Posthomerica

Download or read book From the Iliad to the Odyssey A Retelling in Prose of Quintus of Smyrna s Posthomerica written by David Bruce and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-10-23 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Homer created the epic poems ""Iliad"" and ""Odyssey."" The "Iliad" tells only a small part of the story of the Trojan War. For example, the "Iliad" does not tell the story of the Trojan Horse although Homer knew about the Trojan Horse and assumed that his audience knew its story. Other, shorter epic poems that made up the Epic Cycle told the rest of the story of the Trojan War. The ""Iliad"" and the ""Odyssey"" have survived to the present time, but the other epic poems of the Epic Cycle have been lost since ancient times. Fortunately, Quintus of Smyrna wrote an epic poem that retold the tales recounted in the lost epic poems of the Epic Cycle. He told the story of the Trojan War from the end of the ""Iliad ""to when Odysseus sets sail for home in the "Odyssey" after Troy has fallen. In this retelling, as in all my retellings, I have tried to make the work of literature accessible to modern readers.

Book excerpt: Although military concepts in Homeric poetry have been studied since Alexandrian times, there has not been until now an extended study of the concept of alke, "defensive strength", as it unfolds intertextually within the Iliad and the Odyssey and archaic Greek poetry generally. Derek Collins uses evidence from Homeric poetry to reveal that alke, unlike other concepts of strength in archaic Greek, plays a central role in defining a warrior at the peak of his prowess, which can be related in turn to its application to kings and to its use by Zeus and Athena as divine emblems of warfare. Just as importantly, Collins shows how alke functions poetically as a plot device for the Odyssey as the poem retrospectively views the Iliad. Finally, by integrating evidence from linguistics, anthropology, and comparative literature, Collins argues that the meaning of alke cannot be divorced from the oral-traditional media from which it emerges, and that its conceptual structure depends as much on archaic Greece as it does on the poetic demands of the Iliad and the Odyssey.

Book The Odyssey in two volumes 2

Download or read book The Odyssey in two volumes 2 written by Homer and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1928 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HOMER, The works assigned to Homer include the earliest and greatest European epic poems, but nothing is known of their Greek author (if not authors) unless it is that his country was Ionia in Asia Minor. To the ancients Homeric poetry at first was all the old epics, especially about Thebes and Troy; then 'Homer' was credited only with the Iliad and the Odyssey which we still have, and some minor poems of which we include Homeric Hymns in the volume containing Hesoid. The 24 books of the Iliad concern the 'anger of Achilles' during the war of the Greeks against Troy, extending from Achilles' quarrel with Agamemnon to the burial of Hector. The Odyssey presents the fortunes of Odysseus and his son Telamachus after the fall of Troy, and Odysseus' return home to Ithaca and his revenge on the rapacious suitors of his wife Penelope. It would require a book to list the work of scholarship done on these marvellous narratives of which part at least of the greatness can be suggested in translation.
