This very powerful supernatural astonishing love, felt even towards unknown people left John astounded and filled with awe, saying, it was beyond expression in words. Then to reiterate His reality, God continued to protect John from many more life threatening events, which made him feel compelled to write about his miraculous experiences. This true life movie like autobiography about John Coleman's extraordinary experiences will leave you spellbound as you read how God intervened in his life; including an infilling of the Holy Spirit, experiencing God's unconditional love; saving him from serious caraccidents, boat sinkings, one being far out to sea at night; saved when fighting extremely dangerous fires, near electrocution, and two other near drowning incidents, plus humorous yet dangerous experiences on his horse. This book was released on 2021-09-21 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Secrets of an iconic artifact Florida Book Awards, Bronze Medal for Florida Nonfiction Florida Trust for Historic Preservation Award for Meritorious Achievement in Preservation Communications Excavated from a waterlogged archaeological site on the shores of subtropical Florida by legendary anthropologist Frank Hamilton Cushing in 1896, the Key Marco Cat has become a modern icon of heritage, history, and local identity. This book takes readers into the deep past of the artifact and the Native American society in which it was created. Austin Bell explores nine periods in the life of the six-inch-high wooden carving, beginning with how it was sculpted with shell and shark-tooth tools and what it may have represented to the ancient Calusa—perhaps a human-panther god. Preserved in the muck for centuries on Marco Island and discovered in pristine condition due to its oxygen-free environment, the Cat has since traveled more than 12,000 miles and has been viewed by millions of people. It is one of the Smithsonian Institution’s most irreplaceable items. In this fascinating account, Bell traces the clues to the Cat’s mysterious origins that have emerged in its later lives. Captivating readers with the miracle and beauty of this rare example of pre-Columbian art, Bell marvels at how an object originally understood to hold cosmological power has indeed transformed the people and places around it. The Nine Lives of Florida’s Famous Key Marco Cat is the story of a timeless masterpiece of staggering simplicity that has prevailed over impossibly long odds.

Download or read book Nine Lives to Eternity written by Scott D. Gottschalk and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-12-11 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nine Lives to Eternity is a true chronicle of cheating death time and again. This inspirational and faith-driven human triumph details the aftermath of my many harrowing experiences and mishaps, any of which should have resulted in certain death. Each time, I was somehow incessantly saved by guardian angels. The numerous near-death experiences accounted for twenty-six fractured bones and rendered me unconscious on five separate occasions, yet somehow I lived to tell my compelling story of survival and triumph over death. By the release date of this book, the good Lord has allowed me to somehow, someway survive up until and beyond the celebration of my fifty-fifth birthday. Trust me when I reiterate that my life hasnt been a painless journey while defeating death on a habitual basis. Beginning as a mere infant at the age of nine months old and then continuing through fifty-five years, Ive cheated death again and again. During my lifes journey, Ive survived an unfathomable twenty-seven encounters with death. Ive escaped death through seven different machinery and equipment mishaps. Ive avoided horse or mule death challenges no fewer than five times. Although one of my lifes greatest pleasures has always been motorcycling, Ive paid a price by suffering through five singular accidents that should have terminated my life. Few in life could survive even one automobile crash, yet Ive lived to describe three separate vehicular collisions. In addition, Ive escaped death from toxic fumes twice and twice averted death threats while working within dangerous third world countries. Ive even fallen from a rooftop, nearly crashed in an airplane, and lived through a poisoning, yet by the grace of God, Ive failed to become a fatality statistic. Ive often joked that for every day in which I dont read my own name within a newspaper obituary column that becomes a really good day for me. To survive so many brushes with death is difficult to absorb. My goal-driven ambitions have unfortunately brought me to the threshold of death numerous times. Ive driven myself to limits that few would attempt. Early in life, I set a goal for myself to try and fit three lifetimes of experiences into my short time on this planet. As a youth, I never believed that I would survive beyond an age of forty years. Most certainly, my high-risk behaviors reduced my odds for a lengthy existence. As my life unfolded, the numerous encounters with death became staggering. Between the ages of nine months up until nine years, I faced death three times. From the ages of ten years through my nineteenth birthday, death crossed my pathway four more times. During my tumultuous twenties from the ages of twenty years through twenty-nine years, I survived eight separate death encounters. Between the ages of thirty years through thirty-nine years, my chances of death slowed down to two. By the ages of forty years through forty-nine years, the Grim Reaper visited me on three separate occasions. As I reached midlife, I discovered that the pace of my death engagements was increasing. From the ages of fifty years through fifty-five years, Id already amassed five singular close encounters with death. Perhaps that assertion should come as no surprise. Since reaching my fifties, Id done little to slow down or reduce my zest for life and risk-taking determination. Few adults when faced with their own midlife crisis will attempt such outlandish feats as mountain climbing to the summit of Devils Tower in Wyoming or riding a motorcycle nonstop for ten thousand miles or consulting in the midst of a war within the country of Afghanistan. Im thankful for each and every day that Im allowed the privilege of living. I try to give thanks and praise to my Lord every day for granting me the tenacity to overcome even the worst of survival odds. Through my strong faith and spirituality, and by never accepting defeat, Ive been able to constantly repel the onset of death.

Download or read book The Awful Grace of God written by Stuart Wexler and published by Catapult. This book was released on 2012-03-20 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Awful Grace of God chronicles a multi–year effort to kill Martin Luther King Jr. by a group of the nation's most violent right–wing extremists. Impeccably researched and thoroughly documented, this examines figures like Sam Bowers, head of the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan of Mississippi, responsible for more than three hundred separate acts of violence in Mississippi alone; J.B. Stoner, who ran an organization that the California attorney general said was "more active and dangerous than any other ultra–right organization;" and Reverend Wesley Swift, a religious demagogue who inspired two generations of violent extremists. United in a holy cause to kill King, this network of racist militants were the likely culprits behind James Earl Ray and King's assassination in Memphis on April 4th, 1968. King would be their ultimate prize—a symbolic figure whose assassination could foment an apocalypse that would usher in their Kingdom of God, a racially "pure" white world. Hancock and Wexler have sifted through thousands of pages of declassified and never–before–released law enforcement files on the King murder, conducted dozens of interviews with figures of the period, and re–examined information from several recent cold case investigations. Their study reveals a terrorist network never before described in contemporary history. They have unearthed data that was unavailable to congressional investigators and used new data–mining techniques to extend the investigation begun by the House Select Committee on Assassinations. The Awful Grace of God offers the most comprehensive and up–to–date study of the King assassination and presents a roadmap for future investigation.

Download or read book Nine Lives written by Peter Braaksma and published by New Internationalist. This book was released on 2009-09-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "You can cut the flower, but you cannot stop the coming of spring." Malalai Joya, the young member of the Afghan parliament, refuses to let injustice go unchallenged. Her words reflect the irrepressible attitudes and actions of all the women and men who tell their stories here. As with all the titles in New Internationalist's World Changing imprint, Nine Lives sees opportunity in the midst of adversity and presents the life stories of people who have been confronted with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, opposition, and oppression. Whether it is human rights activist Harry Wu, who spent nineteen years in Chinese labor camps, or Nobel Laureate and President of Costa Rica Oscar Arias Sánchez, each of the nine voices in this collection has confronted an urgent and inescapable need to dig deep, either to rescue themselves or to forge a fresh way forward for others. To understand the key stories behind the headlines, Peter Braaksma believes that it is essential to feel the personal, intimate experience of people working on the frontline of human rights and humanitarian issues; that the stories, uninterrupted and unpolished, must speak for themselves. Reading like nine mini-novels, the nine remarkable stories belong to Bassam Aramin (Palestinian National Authority), Monireh Baradaran (Iran), Youk Chhang (Cambodia), Sompop Jantraka (Thailand), Malalai Joya (Afghanistan), Chaeli Mycroft (South Africa), Oscar Arias Sánchez (Costa Rica), and Harry Wu (China). Peter Braaksma has worked as an editor, communications advisor, and journalist in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Trees live long after we are gone.’ In a feverish rush in the evening of his years, Motilal Boodoosingh, through his Kahanis series, is engaged in planting fruit trees in the literary landscape of the Caribbean. This book, his fourth on the trot, honours the memory of his Aajee – his paternal grandmother – by documenting some of the folk tales passed on to him through the oral tradition of storytelling. As such, in contrast to the earlier published works, it is overlaid with a strong flavour of Hinduism, but continues to trace the evolution of Indo-Trinidadian history, tradition and culture. The author’s memory of time, place and events is equally amazing, evident in his recall of what growing up was like in the southern rural district of Penal and its environs in the good ole days in Trinidad. There is adventure. There is humour. There is philosophy. Above all, there is sincere appreciation for all of the good things that came his way – documented here in black and white for all posterity. ‘If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.’ – Albert Einstein. At seventy-two, Motilal Boodoosingh is a retired Offshore Production worker. From the energy industry he switched, upon retirement, to the fields of literacy and literature. He holds a BA in Literature and Communications as well as a Certificate in the Teaching of Reading. He also has an Adult Literacy Tutors Certificate. He earned the right to be labelled a Cropper Fellow after he successfully completed in 2016 the Cropper Foundation Residential Workshop for Caribbean Writers. As prolific as his writing is his frenetic involvement in literacy and literary sessions such as the Adult Literacy Tutors Association (ALTA) project of Readings Under the Trees, and the fortnightly zoom sessions of Poetry and Prose. Published in a number of magazines, he is also a regular contributor to the online literary magazine, my Trinidad, Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow.
