Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is sometimes difficult to see that God is paying even the slightest attention when our lives are a mess. I mean, where is He, exactly, when you really need Him? The "God is great," "God is good," and all the other "God is terrific" stuff is hard to find during times of turmoil and tragedy. I know I did not think God was so "great" when my now ex-husband was dragging me up a flight of stairs by my hair. No way was God "good" when my bones ached from punches and kicks, and my eyes burned from hot tears of despair and fear. God did not seem so "terrific" when I stared into the hate-filled eyes of my husband as he held a knife to my throat or a gun to my head and sneered, "If you scream one more time I will kill you." My parents divorced when I was young, leaving an emptiness in my heart I could never understand. As a teenager, I felt apart from girls my own age, and I rebelled strongly against any and all authority. I had given up on God long before I ran away at the age of fifteen to marry the eighteen year-old man who in one year went from being the love of my life to my abuser, jailer, kidnapper, rapist, and attempted murderer. By the time I was "sweet sixteen" there was no doubt in my mind-if God existed it was certainly not in my world. After the birth of my son and my divorce, both at the age of sixteen, there was no room in my life for anything but the here and now. Practical things consumed me, like going back to school, working, child care, housekeeping, paying bills, and learning how to be a mother. I was so very lost. I filled my days with busy take-charge tasks. I filled my nights with alcohol, drugs, parties, and self-destruction. I filled my soul with empty promises and emptier pursuits. Over the years, another marriage and divorce, several broken engagements, more than one abortion, and frequent extreme weight gains and losses left me even more emotionally crippled. Why couldn't I find happiness? Why did it seem as though nothing I did worked out? Why did I feel so worthless? The feelings of utter helplessness and hopelessness, the unrealized dreams, broken promises, and dead-end streets overwhelmed me. One summer evening I was taking a walk in my neighborhood when I noticed people going into the neighborhood church. Suddenly my legs developed a mind of their own, virtually propelling me up the steps and through the doors. Alone in the church balcony, I looked toward the pulpit and saw the statue of Jesus with outstretched hands, looking right at me. Hot tears fell down my cheeks as emotions I could not explain filled my heart and soul. What was wrong? What was happening to me? Why was I sitting in a strange church crying like a baby? When the Pastor began to speak, it was a message of being lost, without direction, without hope, without faith-and how it did not have to be like that. He talked of how we needed only to listen to the Holy Spirit and ask the Lord Jesus Christ to come into our hearts and He would be there-just like that. My walk with the Lord started that day, a day that forever changed the course of my life. Suddenly I wanted to know more about this relationship with Jesus of which the Pastor spoke. Over the next decade the world opened up to me in ways I could never have imagined. Opportunities, experiences, and spiritual illumination did not make my life perfect, but it was a life of healing and hope, a life of promise where before there had been empty desolation. Psalm 71:20 says, "Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up." And bring me up He did. Jesus Christ took my broken spirit and my lost soul, filled with guilt and pain, and turned me around, setting me on a new course. He filled that empty place in my soul I was trying so desperately to fill with drugs, alcohol, relationships, material goods, work, and empty pursuits. He forgave me the sins that weighed heavy on my heart, showing me I no longer had to carry the burden alone. He can do the same for you. I did not "get religion." I "got a relationship"- a relationship with Jesus Christ. Second Corinthians 5:17 says it all: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!" Are you ready for a new relationship and a new life? No matter what we have done, no matter where we have been, it is never too late to change direction, becauseGOD ALLOWS U-TURNS! If you would like to turn your life around, pray this simple prayer from your heart: Dear Heavenly Father, I have been going down the wrong road and I want to make a u-turn toward You. Thank You for giving Your Son as a sacrifice for my sins, that I might not die but have eternal life with You. Please forgive my sins and come into my life. Fill me with Your love and the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name, amen." Adapted from the book series God Allows U-Turns (c)2001 by Allison Gappa Bottke. Book excerpt: In this book, you will read testimonies of broken lives that have been changed by the power of God. Addiction knows no boundaries. Some Faith Farm Ministries' students have been abused, broken, prostituted, or convicted as criminals; some having served prison time. Others come as children from loving homes and a church background, but were sidetracked into drugs and alcohol by peer pressure. Some have been upstanding citizens who were involved in some kind of accident or sustained an injury that led to an addiction to prescription pain medicines and have lost everything. Others have been very well off financially and had their lives destroyed because of their addictions. Regardless of their circumstances, they have made a complete "U-TURN" in their lives. These are stories of lives transformed by the power of unconditional love and the grace of God. Dean Webb has done an excellent job of bringing a book to the reader that testifies of the grace, mercy, and goodness of the Lord, as He stands waiting, with open arms, to welcome home His prodigal sons and daughters, whose lives have been shattered by addiction. This book is a celebration of all who have passed through the gates of Faith Farm Ministries and were set free by the power of Almighty God. No one who made a choice to socially use a mood-altering substance intended to become addicted to it. Addiction is destructive for families, friends, finance, relationships, jobs, health, and really, anything that a person holds dear to their heart, including his own life, if he does not get help. An old Japanese proverb says, "First the man takes a drink, then the drink takes a drink, then the drink takes the man." The same can be true for any mood-altering substance, when a man or a woman has an addictive personality. Webster's New World Dictionary defines rehabilitation as, "to restore to rank, reputation, etc., which one has lost; to put back in good condition." Faith Farm Ministries is NOT committed to putting "back in good condition." We are committed to regeneration. Webster's defines regeneration as, "spiritually reborn; renewed; to cause to be spiritually reborn; to be made anew." No one can argue that addiction is now at epidemic levels. Everyone knows someone; a loved one, a neighbor, a co-worker or friend who has addiction issues. Overcoming codependency can be as difficult a challenge as overcoming an addiction. Faith Farm lives out its purpose for our students daily: "Restoring Hope... One Life at a Time" and these are their stories. Please enjoy reading them.

Book excerpt: New York Times bestseller What is Jesus worth to you? It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily... But who do you know who lives like that? Do you? In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus. Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment -- a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.

Book excerpt: As we all move deeper into the year 2021 and beyond, we are finding that there seems to be fewer and fewer good answers to many of our life questions and fears. The Covid virus is still very much a threat to us as our families, jobs and businesses all struggle with the real effects of these threats. Many of us, especially we older folks, grew up at a time when faith in God was more of a key component in our daily lives. We went to church regularly and even a significant number of us received our formal education in Judeo-Christian based schools. But as we became older, our lives have become more complicated and confusing. "God Loves U-Turns" is a call to all people to consider returning to the things we learned about: Christianity, and specifically the teachings of Jesus Christ. Looking at the current problems in our world and personal lives would suggest that we have not been successful in finding good answers to our fears and concerns. It also suggests that we have been heading in the wrong direction for a very long time and a course correction is badly needed. Life is short and for many of us, it is becoming even shorter. Could it be that the answers we seek will come from a spiritual source? Is that what we have been missing? Is it time to go back and revisit the wisdom we found in our Christian education? In other words, is it time to make a U-Turn and head back to where we knew we were safe while in God's presence and teachings? God does indeed love U-turns, and He is waiting eagerly for our return. Time is running out. This book will help you understand what is involved in returning home to God and most importantly, why it is the most serious decision you will ever make.

Book No More Faking Fine

  • ISBN : 0310344778

Download or read book No More Faking Fine written by Esther Fleece Allen and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2017-01-10 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scripture reveals a God who meets us where we are, not where we pretend to be. No More Faking Fine is your invitation to get honest with God through the life-giving language of lament. If you've ever been given empty clichés during challenging times, you know how painful it is to be misunderstood by well-meaning people. When life hurts, we often feel pressure--from others and ourselves--to keep it together, suck it up, or pray it away. But Scripture reveals a God who lovingly invites us to give honest voice to our emotions when life hits hard. For most of her life, Esther Fleece Allen believed she could bypass the painful emotions of her broken past by shutting them down altogether. She was known as an achiever and an overcomer on the fast track to success. But in silencing her pain, she robbed herself of the opportunity to be healed. Maybe you've done the same. Esther's journey into healing began when she discovered that God has given us a real-world way to deal with raw emotions and an alternative to the coping mechanisms that end up causing more pain. It's called lament--the gut-level, honest prayer that God never ignores, never silences, and never wastes. No More Faking Fine is your permission to lament, taking you on a journey down the unexpected pathway to true intimacy with God. Drawing from careful biblical study and hard-won insight, Esther reveals how to use God's own language to come closer to him as he leads us through our pain to the light on the other side, teaching you that: We are robbing ourselves of a divine mystery and a divine intimacy when we pretend to have it all together God does not expect us to be perfect; instead, he meets us where we are There is hope beyond your heartache, disappointment, and grief Like Esther, you'll soon find that when one person stops faking fine, it gives everyone else permission to do the same.
