Book Ethical and Moral Instruction in Schools Classic Reprint

Download or read book Ethical and Moral Instruction in Schools Classic Reprint written by George Herbert Palmer and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-24 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Ethical and Moral, Instruction in Schools The problem of moral education is an old one, older indeed than schools. The obligation for its solution has therefore rested upon the shoulders of others besides schoolmasters every responsi ble class in the community has borne a share of the burden. That our present discussion should emphasize schools and school-teaching merely indicates the special form which the problem takes in our time. In no way does it denote that moral education is wholly the business of the school, or that it is the school's whole business. It simply suggests that there is an increasing con scious dependence upon the school as a moulder of character. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Moral Class-Book The work, nevertheless, must be regarded as only a humble aid in the business of moral education. Precept, cmmfle, and training are the three degrees of comparison in this important business - the first being good, the second better, and the third best of all. The education of home is also of infinitely greater im portance than that which comes from any other source. Finally, we need scarcely remark, it is by the influence of religious prin ciple that we may chiefly expect to give the right stamp inhuman character. When we examine the present volume with a regard to these principles, we find that, being purely didactic, it can only be expected to do a little for the greatest of causes - religion; which the Editors conceive should be taught directly from the oracles of Sacred Truth. Book Moral Education an Experimental Investigation Classic Reprint

Download or read book Moral Education an Experimental Investigation Classic Reprint written by William T. Whitney and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-06 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Moral Education an Experimental Investigation The Federal and State Constitutions forbid that instruction in religion shall be given in the public schools. They permit, however, moral instruction. The moral instruction allowed in the schools may be given as courses in ethics or moral training, and ethical judgments may be formed from the study of the several subjects contained in the school curriculum. It is also believed that moral training is received as a result of the habits formed in following the prescribed school life and its work. It is acknowledged, however, that such training and instruction is incidental, and like the incidental method of teaching spelling, the results secured are not satisfactory. Morality in its practical sense is the conduct of the individual in society. Moral instruction and moral training, therefore, must be social and must be rooted in the social instincts if right motives and right conduct result. The emphasis must be placed upon the ideal and the idea of service. There are two distinct phases of moral education - moral training and moral instruction. Moral training is the more important in the early life of the individual. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Moral and Religious Education Classic Reprint

Download or read book Moral and Religious Education Classic Reprint written by Sophie Bryant and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Moral and Religious Education The Modern Educator's Library has been designed to give considered expositions of the best theory and practice in English education of to-day. It is planned to cover the principal problems of educational theory in general, of curriculum and organisation, of some unexhausted aspects of the history of education, and of special branches of applied education. The Editor and his colleagues have had in view the needs of young teachers and of those training to be teachers, but since the school and the schoolmaster are not the sole factors in the educative process, it is hoped that educators in general (and which of us is not in some sense or other an educator?) as well as the professional schoolmaster may find in the series some help in understanding precept and practice in education of to-day and to-morrow. For we have borne in mind not only what is but what ought to be. To exhibit the educators work as a vocation requiring the best possible preparation is the spirit in which these volumes have been written. No artificial uniformity has been sought or imposed, and while the Editor is responsible for the series in general, the responsibility for the opinions expressed in each volume rests solely with its author. Book Moral and Intellectual Education Classic Reprint

Download or read book Moral and Intellectual Education Classic Reprint written by Bureaud Roifrey and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-02 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Moral and Intellectual Education In most works on Education, children are repte sented as little culprits, with innumerable faults and vices to be corrected. My views are quite different. Undoubtedly we are all born in sin; children come into the world with an original stain, which may account for the natural tendency to evil: but childrenare also endowed with noble qualities, containing the seeds of the most elevated sentiments, and virtues. Instead therefore of considering the child as a crimi nal, ever ready to err, and requiring constant severity, I have considered him as the noble descendant of a chosen, though fallen race, whose dignity should be restored.
