Book Observing Global Climate Change

Download or read book Observing Global Climate Change written by Kyrill Ya Kondratyev and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-14 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collaborative book aims to offer a comprehensive introduction to global climate, the way it is currently changing, the role of earth, air and satellite observation and monitoring, and subsequent climate modelling. It focuses on the interaction between natural and anthropogenic human- made change factors. The book emphasizes the importance of capturing climatic data and the use of that data in computer-based climatic modelling.

Download or read book The Global Climate written by John T. Houghton and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1985-09-05 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in paperback, this book has succeeded in its aim to introduce the global climate problem and the complex processes and interactions which play a part in climatic change to a wide range of scientists working in climatic research or the related fields of meteorology, oceanography, glaciology and hydrology. It is centred around the World Climate Research Programme, an international enterprise jointly sponsored by the scientific community (through the International Council of Scientific Unions) and the national weather centres (through the World Meteorological Organisation). If progress is to be made in understanding climatic change, it is necessary to observe and understand all components of the climate system and the interactions between them. This book is particularly relevant to many contemporary climatic problems and to the two most important questions arising tom them: to what extent can changes in climate be predicted; and what is the extent of man's influence on climate. The Global Climate answers these questions, showing how the important processes may be -observed, evaluated and modelled by computer.

Book Annual Cycles of Heat in the Northern Hemisphere Oceans and Heat Distribution by Ocean Currents

Download or read book Annual Cycles of Heat in the Northern Hemisphere Oceans and Heat Distribution by Ocean Currents written by Taivo Laevastu and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report is an interim report on some studies of sea/air interaction and application of the results. The formulas used in the synoptic computation of heat exchange are reviewed and the results compared to some earlier work. The synoptic heat exchange analyses are compared to mean charts demonstrating the smoothing of features. Monthly mean total heat exchange charts for 1966 and 1967 are presented, the essential features are described and year-to-year changes are pointed out. The sensible plus latent and total heat exchange is summarized by oceanic regions and the local differences in annual cycles are described, indicating the main source regions of moisture and heat. The mean annual heat storage change in the Northern Hemisphere oceans is computed, showing that the greatest change occurs in the surface layers above 60m and along the major warm currents.

Book Natural Climate Variability on Decade to Century Time Scales

Download or read book Natural Climate Variability on Decade to Century Time Scales written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1996-08-30 with total page 645 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume reflects the current state of scientific knowledge about natural climate variability on decade-to-century time scales. It covers a wide range of relevant subjects, including the characteristics of the atmosphere and ocean environments as well as the methods used to describe and analyze them, such as proxy data and numerical models. They clearly demonstrate the range, persistence, and magnitude of climate variability as represented by many different indicators. Not only do natural climate variations have important socioeconomic effects, but they must be better understood before possible anthropogenic effects (from greenhouse gas emissions, for instance) can be evaluated. A topical essay introduces each of the disciplines represented, providing the nonscientist with a perspective on the field and linking the papers to the larger issues in climate research. In its conclusions section, the book evaluates progress in the different areas and makes recommendations for the direction and conduct of future climate research. This book, while consisting of technical papers, is also accessible to the interested layperson.
