Book Monopolistic Competition and Effective Demand PSME 6

This book was released on 2015-03-08 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While traditional price theory has successfully elucidated national income distribution in a perfectly competitive economy, little is known today about the overall working of a noncompetitive economy. This book moves to remedy the imbalance by sketching a general equilibrium theory of a noncompetitive economy. Developing his theory in the world of the standard Leontief system, Hukukane Nikaido attempts to construct objective demand functions reflecting the interdependence of economic agents in the real world upon which the monopolist's control of prices or output ultimately depends. Book The Theory of Monopolistic Competition

Download or read book The Theory of Monopolistic Competition written by Edward Chamberlin and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chamberlain's classic work, now in its eighth edition, continues to influence the fundamental thinking of economists and businessmen, and for the best of reasons: It is a basic treatise in theory which, unlike traditional theories of "perfect competition," deals with the economic world we live in, including both price and nonprice competition, oligopoly, various degrees of monopoly, "differentiated" products, advertising, etc. Its influence has spread extensively as well as intensively--to new theoretical problems, such as economic dynamics and development, and to the analysis of an increasingly wide range of the so-called "applied" fields. In this eighth edition of The Theory of Monopolistic Competition Professor Chamberlain has added three new appendices: The Definition of Selling Costs; Numbers and Elasticities; and The Origin and Early Development of Monopolistic Competition Theory. The index has been extensively revised and expanded. In successive earlier editions the author compiled a bibliography of 1497 items. He also added a new treatment of the cost curve of the firm, discussing in particular some current misconceptions as to the role of the laws of proportions and of the divisibility of factors in relation to economics and diseconomies of scale, and advancing a broader theory which assigns to both proportions and scale their proper roles.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unemployment, Recession and Effective Demand is a fine example of how critical analysis and debate about fundamental issues should be carried on. Claudio Sardoni does not pull his punches, but he criticises with courtesy in a learned and fair-minded way. His writings are a role model of proper procedure allied with cumulative persuasion through weight of evidence, sound scholarship and argument.' - From the foreword by G.C. Harcourt In the midst of the current world economic crisis, many claim there is a necessity to return to the Marxian and Keynesian traditions in order to better understand the dynamics of market economies. This book is an important step in that direction. It presents a critical examination of the foundations of macroeconomics as developed in the traditions of Marx, Keynes and Kalecki, which are contrasted with the current mainstream. Particular attention is given to the problem of market forms and their relevance for macroeconomics. Professional economists and postgraduate students in economics, in particular those concerned with macroeconomics and the history of economic thought in the 20th century, will find this insightful resource invaluable. This book should be required reading for a large proportion of the economics profession who are dissatisfied with the mainstream.

Download or read book Monopolistic Competition Aggregate Demand Externalities and Real Effects of Nominal Money written by Nobuhiro Kiyotaki and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A long standing issue in macroeconomics is that of the relation of imperfect competition to fluctuations in output. In this paper we examine the relation between monopolistic competition and the role of aggregate demand in the determination of output. We first show that monopolistically competitive economies exhibit an aggregate demand externality. We then show that, because of this externality, small menu costs, that is small costs of changing prices may lead to large effects of aggregate demand on output and on welfare
