Book Developing the Nursing Component in a National AIDS Prevention and Control Programme

Download or read book Developing the Nursing Component in a National AIDS Prevention and Control Programme written by WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This booklet, prepared by the World Health Organization's Regional office for the Western Pacific, seeks to provide nurses with the information and tools required to organize nursing services to meet the needs resulting from HIV infection and the AIDS epidemic. Nurse managers and nurse educators must become active participants in health policy formulation and planning to organize a framework for the prevention and control of HIV. This publication first outlines the World Health Organization's Global AIDS Strategy and suggested national activities. It then delineates guidelines for the development of a nursing component in national AIDS prevention and control programs. These include formation of a nursing task force, policy formulation, situation analysis, initial needs assessment, and program evaluation. Also presented is a chart containing evaluation indicators for the nursing program. This is the second in a series of booklets that comprise the HIV/AIDS Reference Library for Nurses.

Book Global Advances in HIV AIDS Monitoring and Evaluation

Download or read book Global Advances in HIV AIDS Monitoring and Evaluation written by Greet Peersman and published by Jossey-Bass. This book was released on 2004-11-18 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of this issue is on global advances in conducting monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of the global response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Only by implementing comprehensive and sustainable M&E systems will we know how much progress we are making, as nations and as a global community, in combating this pandemic. The chapters primarily focus on developing nations and are presented largely from the perspective of evaluators working for donors, international agencies, and national governments. Although it is clear that a comprehensive M&E system must eventually include both monitoring and evaluation, the initial aim has been to establish a foundation derived largely from surveys and monitoring information. To date, much of the focus in M&E has come from the global level because new global funding initiatives been launched and required rapid scale-up and the development of technical guidance, international standards, and indicators for monitoring progress and determining success. At the regional and country levels, the challenge has been to implement national M&E plans and systems within a context of overall low M&E capacity and a range of M&E needs.

Book Evaluating AIDS Prevention Programs

Download or read book Evaluating AIDS Prevention Programs written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1991-02-01 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With insightful discussion of program evaluation and the efforts of the Centers for Disease Control, this book presents a set of clear-cut recommendations to help ensure that the substantial resources devoted to the fight against AIDS will be used most effectively. This expanded edition of Evaluating AIDS Prevention Programs covers evaluation strategies and outcome measurements, including a realistic review of the factors that make evaluation of AIDS programs particularly difficult. Randomized field experiments are examined, focusing on the use of alternative treatments rather than placebo controls. The book also reviews nonexperimental techniques, including a critical examination of evaluation methods that are observational rather than experimentalâ€"a necessity when randomized experiments are infeasible.

Book Monitoring HIV Care in the United States

Download or read book Monitoring HIV Care in the United States written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-08-13 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The number of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in the United States is growing each year largely due both to advances in treatment that allow HIV-infected individuals to live longer and healthier lives and due to a steady number of new HIV infections each year. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that there were 1.2 million people living with HIV infection in the United States at the end of 2008, the most recent year for which national prevalence data are available. Each year, approximately 16,000 individuals die from AIDS despite overall improvements in survival, and 50,000 individuals become newly infected with HIV. In 2011, the CDC estimated that about three in four people living with diagnosed HIV infection are linked to care within 3 to 4 months of diagnosis and that only half are retained in ongoing care. In the context of the continuing challenges posed by HIV, the White House Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP) released a National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS) for the United States in July 2010. The primary goals of the NHAS are to: reduce HIV incidence; increase access to care and optimize health outcomes; and reduce HIV-related health disparities. Monitoring HIV Care in the United States addresses existing gaps in the collection, analysis, and integration of data on the care and treatment experiences of PLWHA. This report identifies critical data and indicators related to continuous HIV care and access to supportive services, assesses the impact of the NHAS and the ACA on improvements in HIV care, and identifies public and private data systems that capture the data needed to estimate these indicators. In addition, this report addresses a series of specific questions related to the collection, analysis, and dissemination of such data. Monitoring HIV Care in the United States is the first of two reports to be prepared by this study. In a forthcoming report, also requested by ONAP, the committee will address the broad question of how to obtain national estimates that characterize the health care of people living with HIV in the United States. The second report will include discussion of challenges and best practices from previous large scale and nationally representative studies of PLWHA as well as other populations.
