Book excerpt: This is primarily a story of my mother's life as a Homesteader in the barren Canadian wilderness. Her strong faith in her Lord gave her strength to carry on each day. When she finds the struggle too deep, no matter what the cost, she realizes she must find a way out. Doreen Johnson was born on August 20th, 1939. She began her life in a log cabin north of Carrot River, Saskatchewan, Canada. Her parents were homesteaders. The family worked long, hard hours clearing the land to provide themselves a meagre existence. Her teen years were spent in the city of Vancouver. After completing grade eleven, she left school working at many jobs but enjoyed most of all her own company, a silk flower business "Adoren Creations." She was encouraged by many family and friends to write a story recalling as best as she could the many interesting aspects of her mother's life. She is now enjoying retirement with her husband and family in Surrey, British Columbia.

Book Mama s Boy Preacher s Son

Download or read book Mama s Boy Preacher s Son written by Kevin Jennings and published by Beacon Press. This book was released on 2007-05-15 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Long before Kevin Jennings began advocating to end anti-LGBT bias in schools, he was a victim of it. In Mama's Boy, Preacher's Son, Jennings traces the roots of his activism to his elementary school days in the conservative South, where "faggot" became more familiar to him than his own name. Mama's Boy, Preacher's Son is that rare memoir that is both a riveting personal story and an inside account of a critical chapter in our recent history. Creating safe schools for all youth is now a central part of the progressive agenda in American education—and Kevin Jennings is at the forefront of that fight. Mama's Boy, Preacher's Son earned an A- in Entertainment Weekly, was featured in Salon and The Advocate, and was called "a great read" by People.

Book Expository Preaching in Africa

Download or read book Expository Preaching in Africa written by Ezekiel A. Ajibade and published by HippoBooks. This book was released on 2021-06-30 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can expository preaching, rooted in a textual analysis of Scripture, be effectively utilized in oral cultures? In Expository Preaching in Africa, Ezekiel A. Ajibade engages this challenge directly, offering practical techniques for integrating African oral elements – such as myths, proverbs, folklore, dance, drama, poetry, and storytelling – into preaching that is both biblical and African. Alongside numerous examples and tools, Ajibade provides a rich overview of the nature of orality, the history and development of African preaching, and the reason biblical exposition must be central to gospel proclamation. He reminds us that it is the word of God, incarnated among us, that has the power to transform lives and revitalize nations. Contextualized expository preaching is not, therefore, one technique to be utilized among many; it is, rather, the heart of biblical teaching and the future of the African church. While contributing significantly to studies in contextualization and homiletics, this book is immediately applicable to practitioners, especially African preachers and those working in oral contexts.

Content with having his pick of the flock, Nate is surprised to discover he's fallen head-over-heels in love, and decides to become a one-woman man. But the other ladies aren't about to give him up so easily. They're prepared to do whatever it takes to get their man back--even if it means adding a few more shocking sins to their list. . .

Book A Legacy of Preaching Two Volume Set Apostles to the Present Day

Download or read book A Legacy of Preaching Two Volume Set Apostles to the Present Day written by Zondervan, and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2018-12-11 with total page 934 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Legacy of Preaching, Two-Volume Set--Apostles to the Present Day explores the history and development of preaching through a biographical and theological examination of its most important preachers. Instead of teaching the history of preaching from the perspective of movements and eras, each contributor tells the story of a particular preacher in history, allowing these preachers from the past to come alive and instruct us through their lives, theologies, and methods of preaching. Each chapter introduces readers to a key figure in the history of preaching, followed by an analysis of the theological views that shaped their preaching, their methodology of sermon preparation and delivery, and an appraisal of the significant contributions they have made to the history of preaching. This diverse collection of familiar and lesser-known individuals provides a detailed and fascinating look at what it has meant to communicate the gospel over the past two thousand years. By looking at how the gospel has been communicated over time and across different cultures, pastors, scholars, and homiletics students can enrich their own understanding and practice of preaching for application today.
