Download or read book Immunobiology of HLA written by Bo Dupont and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-12-20 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This set reports the results of the 10th International Histocompatibility Workshop, in which 362 laboratories collaborated over a three year period in research projects on the classification of HLA genes and their products. Volume 1 describes the experimental design of the workshop studies and their results. Volume 2 is a collection of papers on the latest developments in the molecular biology of HLA systems. Immunobiology of HLA is a valuable reference for tissue typing laboratories, blood banks, and general research programs on HLA and related diseases because it identifies common sources of HLA genes and gene products to be used as reference reagents, and because it is the only complete compilation of the latest research and results in the field.
Download or read book Molecular Biology of HLA Class II Antigens written by Jack Silver and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1990-02-28 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication covers the recent veritable explosion in knowledge regarding the genetic organization, structure, and function of the HLA class II region. It deals with the nature of diversity of HLA class II alleles, the molecular basis of this diversity, and the mechanisms by which HLA class II expression is regulated. Also addressed is the relationship of class II polymorphism to susceptibility to autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, and pemphigus vulgaris. The book presents information on allele specific oligonucleotide (ASO) probes and their use in identifying susceptible individuals. It includes chapters which describe how cells transfected with HLA class II genes can be used for functional analysis. An appendix representing a compilation of all the known DR?? DQ?, DQ? sequences is included. This serves as an excellent source of comparison of newly derived sequences. This publication provides information on the enormous progress in the HLA field. It is intended for both the established investigator and the beginner.

Download or read book Regulation of Immune Gene Expression written by Marc Feldmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book encompasses the proceedings of a conference held at Trinity College, Oxford on September 21-25, 1985 organized by a committee comprised of Drs. M. Crumpton, M. Feldmann, A. McMichael, and E. Simpson, and advised by many friends and colleagues. The immune response gene workshops that took place were based on the need to understand why certain experimental animal strains were high responders and others were low responders. It was assumed that identification of the immune response (Ir) genes and definition of their products would explain high and low responder status. Research in the ensuing years has identified the Ir gene products involved in antibody responses as the la antigens, or MHC Class II antigens. These proteins are now well defined as members of the immunoglobulin gene superfamily, and their domain structure is known. Epitopes have been defined by multiple mono clonal antibodies and regions of hypervariability identified. Their genes have been identified and cloned. The basic observation of high and low responsive ness to antigen is still not understood in mechanistic terms, however, at either the cellular or molecular level. This is because the rate of progress in immune regulation has been far slower than in the molecular biology of the MHC Class II antigens. This is not surprising, since immune regulation is a very complex field at the crossroads of many disciplines.
Download or read book Mononuclear Phagocytes written by R. van Furth and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mononuclear phagocytes, which include macrophages, monocytes and their precursor cells, are the most important cells in the host defence against micro-organisms and tumor cells. During the last twenty-five years research on the biology of mononuclear phagocytes has increased tremendously. This motivated Professor R. van Furth to organize five international conferences on this subject in Leiden, the Netherlands. The edited proceedings of these meethings were published: in 1970 Mononuclear Phagocytes; in 1975 Mononuclear Phagocytes in Immunity, Infections and Pathology; in 1980 Mononuclear Phagocytes -- Functional Aspects; and in 1985 Mononuclear Phagocytes -- Characteristics, Physiology and Function. Reviews of these volumes, published in international journals, praised them as the most up-to-date state of the art publications. The publication of 1991 includes 88 chapters written by more than 200 authors.
Download or read book Pathology Reviews 1990 written by Ivan Damjanov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rubin and Damjanov's latest volume of Pathology Reviews highlights the latest progress in the interface of biology and disease. Forefront techniques and experimental models that were once considered exotic or esoteric, are explored here in the context of understanding more fully the processes involved in human disease. Topics include: regulation of liver growth • contractile cells in lungs • mineral formation in bone • folate metabolism • the "riddle of the mast cell" • HLA antigens • interleukin 6 • IgA nephropathy • Goodpasture syndrome • anti-basement membrane glomerulonephropathy • molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis • molecular diagnosis of cancer • inhibition of intercellular communication in carcinogenesis • DNA repair and its pathogenetic implications • human and rat mammary tumorigenesis. Pathology Reviews • 1990 is essential reading for everyone concerned with the mechanisms of disease.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is a unique and comprehensive resource for human geneticists and physicians concerned with the genetic causes of diseases routinely seen in research, clinical practice, and genetic counseling. Each of the chapters covers a particular disease, describes the genetic factors involved, and define the relevant biochemical, immunological, and physiological markers. The expert, widely known contributors also detail clinical applications, with advice on how the genetic data can be used to evaluate individuals and families, interpret diagnostic texts, and manage the disease.
