Book The Illuminating Engineer Vol 11

Download or read book The Illuminating Engineer Vol 11 written by Illuminating Engineering Society and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-22 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Illuminating Engineer, Vol. 11: Jan. 1918 to Dec. 1918 Since then the movement has made steady progress, though initially it involved much uphill work. It was necessary to kindle an interest in illumination to show its vast possibilities and, in some cases, to remove Old prejudices, by the harmonious co-operation of the members of the Council of the Society, and the services Of the large number of corresponding members in different countries to whom special problems were referred for elucidation as they arose. The writer would like to make special acknowledgment of the able assistance rendered by his friend and co-worker, Mr. J. S. Dow, who has been associated with him in this work since the commencement Of the movement. We have all felt that we were engaged on a labour Of love and a process of self-education. Our eyes were enchanted by the glamour Of a new field of knowledge, with so many rich unexplored regions and such countless interesting channels of communication with other studies. Originally the neglected step-child and nobody's business, illumination is now coming to be rightly recognised as the concern of every body - an essential alike in daily life and in every vocation. It is a legitimate source of pride that this was the first country in Europe to recognise the importance of illumination by founding a special society for its study, and our journal, which has been the official organ of the Society since its foundation, is still the only one in Europe devoted ex elusively to lighting problems and the impartial treatment of all illuminants. This book was released on 2017-11-26 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from High-Efficiency Electrical Illuminants and Illumination The author has been induced to prepare this little vol ume by the constant demand of layman and engineer alike, for information on the principles of the new light sources, their manufacture, use, care, and handling. The volume is necessarily largely didactic, and in prepar ing it the aim has been to make it intelligible to the serious general reader as well as useful as a reference to the central station man of progressive ideas. The book does not claim to be exhaustive, nor does it purport to more than generalize on the proper use of the new illuminants for various conditions of lighting, interior and exterior. Book Modern Illuminants and Comparative Cost of Lighting

Download or read book Modern Illuminants and Comparative Cost of Lighting written by George Guy Jeter and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-22 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Modern Illuminants and Comparative Cost of Lighting: Thesis for the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering; College of Engineering, University of Illinois, Presented June 1910 Electricity, gas, acetylene, gasoline and petroleum will be considered. Under electric lighting, the tungsten, watt and watt carbon, and the nernst lamps will be taken up, for gas lighting, the inverted and upright mantle and the old open flame Lamp s will be discussed. For acetylene lighting the 5 foot open flame burner, which is used mostly in residence work, and for gasoline lighting, the two systems, the hollow wire and stove generating systems will be treated. For petroleum lamps, the ordinary wick.lamp and the recent mantle burners will be considered. Some other forms of'lamps, as the alcohol mantle lamp and other forms may at times be mentioned. In comparing the cost of illuminants, a strictly dollars and cents comparison is not sufficient, and would not be fair to all forms of lamps. Some lamps while cheaper in actual cost of production, are much more expensive, all other things considered. In order to make an impartial comparison of all light sources, they should be compared in somewhat the following manner. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Illuminating Engineer The discussion on this subject opened by Professor J. T. Morris at the last meeting of the Illuminating Engineering Society (see pp. 5 - 26) brought out several interesting points. Methods of lighting interiors are necessarily affected by the range of candlepower and efficiency Of the lamps available, and it is not surprising to find that as a result of the introduction of more powerful and efficient incandescent lamps general over-head lighting is being exploited to a considerable extent in many cases where local lighting with low candlepower lamps would formerly have been used. The rise in intrinsic brilliancy (which according to Professor Morris reaches over candles per square inch in the case of the half - watt lamp), has made proper methods of shading essential, and given some encouragement to the use Of indirect and semi-indirect methods Of lighting. Book Electrical Illuminating Engineering Classic Reprint

Download or read book Electrical Illuminating Engineering Classic Reprint written by William Edward Barrows and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-01 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Electrical Illuminating Engineering This book had its origin in a set of notes compiled and developed by the author for use in his classes. At that time there was no thought of publishing the material and no record was made of the sources of information. However, the work of Professor Wilbur M. Stine on "Photometrical Measurements" was consulted freely and in that department of the subject will be found a valuable reference. Much of the material was obtained from the Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, the Proceedings of the National Electric Light Association, and the Transactions of the illuminating Engineering Society, as well as from the Illuminating Engineer, the Electrical World, the Electrical Age, the Electrical Review, Science Abstracts, and other technical periodicals. The absence of a satisfactory text in Illuminating Engineering and the hope that a book of this nature might be of service to the profession prompted the development of the work to its present condition. Throughout the book there is little descriptive detail. The size of the book necessarily prohibits this and in the authors opinion such detail may more profitably be given by supplementary lectures, or may be obtained on the part of the student by close observation of prevailing practice, or by careful perusal of the contemporary technical press.
