This book was released on 2016-10-20 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Modern Dancing and Dancers IT is not unlikely that when the art historian of the future comes to treat of the artistic activity of the first decade of the twentieth century, he will remark as one of its most notable accomplishments a renaissance of the art of the Dance. That this renaissance is an accomplished fact, is a matter of common knowledge. Within a relatively short period there have appeared several great dancers, who must necessarily have been preparing themselves for a considerable time previously to their appearance, yet as it were in secret, without cognisance of one another, with a common aim, but without a common plan. Con temporaries in time, they have been as far removed in space as the East is from the West. In all movements which touch the spirit, this circumstance of the simultaneous but independent manifesta tion of a common impulse is at once the most general and the most unaccountable. The still small voice whispers into space and those of a delicate hearing hear and respond. We content ourselves by repeating the explanation, which is no explanation, that the movement is in the air. This book was released on 2017-11-23 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Modern Dance for the Youth of America The Dying Swan was typical of an art that found subject matter in romantic fancies. Like the ballet of which it was a part, it used a system of movement common to Russia, Italy and France. This tech nique was so systematized that the ballet dancer could go from one school of dance to another, and find that his techniques would serve him well in each, and that he could follow the instructions of his teacher without making fundamental changes in his style of movement. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Dancing, Ancient and Modern All nature teaches rhythm, which manifests itself in the waves and tides, in the vibrations of light and sound, in the harmonious move ments Of the heavenly spheres and when man began to try to express his feelings by the rhythmic movements Of his body, he was merely taking his part in the everlasting Dance of the Universe. It is perhaps difficult to realise that dancing, as an outlet of emotion, is prior to music - that in fact, the first music was composed or ex temporised in order to accompany dancing yet the origin of many of our oldest musical terms shows that this is the case. For instance. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Maurice s Art of Dancing

Download or read book Maurice s Art of Dancing written by Maurice Mouvet and published by . This book was released on 2017-07-18 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Maurice's Art of Dancing: An Autobiographical Sketch With Complete Descriptions of Modern Dances and Full Illustrations Showing the Various Steps and PositionsThose years at the Sisters' school are rather vague. I certainly did not study very much, but I liked the early Mass in the tiny chapel. The candles on the altar, the faint light streaking the windows, and the scent of incense, fresh and stale, which always clung even to the wooden pews, made me happy. Though I don't think I was religious it was probably an awakening of that strong sense of beauty for which I have always been grateful. When I was nine, Father took Oscar and me to England, placing us in Chatham College, Rochester. Oscar was delighted, for he honestly loved books and studied hard. I was really very proud of him on Prize Days, and I believe that in all the five years we spent there together he never failed to win a prize whenever any were Offered. As for me, I never even tried for one. I hated to study. I used to sit at my desk, with my book propped up before me, and invent new ways of swinging my feet. When I had swung them as far forward and backward as possible, I would use a side-motion, which was very irritating to the boy next me.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Book of the Dance Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Book of the Dance Classic Reprint written by Arnold Genthe and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Book of the Dance When I decided to publish in book form the pictures of the dance which I had made during the last few years, my object was not to make a book of personalities. I merely wanted to show some of the phases of modern dance tendencies that could be recorded in a pictorially interesting manner. This, therefore, is meant to be just a picture book, permanently recording some, thing of the fugitive charm of rhythmic motion, significant gesz ture and brilliant color which the dance has once more brought into our lives. The pictures, arranged simply in groups, are even without titles. What they are intended to convey would not have been helped by labels. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from How and What to Dance To the reader To the man in the street who looks aghast at the modern ballroom and its vagaries, I dedicate this work. Although dancing cannot be learnt from books, any more than an instrument can be mastered after a series of lec tures, if this little volume proves of some guidance to those who are learning, it will have served its full purpose. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Dancing and Dancers of Today: The Modern Revival of Dancing as an Art For now appeared a child, graceful, but mechanical; well trained, yet with an automaton-like precision, unspontaneous, unresponsive. In each hand she carried an American flag, and what she danced is best described as: One, two, three, kick! One, two, three, kick, just as high as the little leg could go. Then again, One, two, three, kick; two to the right and wave the right-hand flag; two to the left and wave the left-hand flag! Book Notes on the Dances Music and Songs of the Ancient and Modern Mexicans Classic Reprint

Download or read book Notes on the Dances Music and Songs of the Ancient and Modern Mexicans Classic Reprint written by Auguste Genin and published by . This book was released on 2016-06-28 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Notes on the Dances, Music, and Songs of the Ancient and Modern Mexicans At a signal, the music commenced, and the art consisted in dancing, so as to make the rhythmic movements coincide with the music and the songs which accompanied it. (knowing that the Mexican instruments produced a rather discordant music, it may be supposed that the songs were for the purpose Of giving it some harmony by blending the deep sounds of the drums with the shrill notes of the utes and pipes.) The movements were carefully indicated and the dancers, says Orozco y Berra, as though moved by springs, were supposed to raise simultaneously the same hand, the same arm, or move the same foot. Naturally, he adds, 'f those in the first circle moved relatively Slowly, but in proportion as they were distant from the center, the dancers had to cover a greater distance in the same length of time, and consequently the speed kept increasing. At the end of each strophe, they started over again. Then the time changed, constantly increasing the rapidity of movement, in such a manner that at the end the dancers in the last' circles acquired a giddy speed. Between the concentric circles the little children fol lowed the dance, together with bu 'oons and a kind of clowns, who wore ridiculous disguises, and now and then spoke or sang jokes or clever remarks to amuse the spectators.
